A few days ago I wrote about the different Fleeces that are available for players to select in order to change the way that they play in Cult of the Lamb. So today I thought I would take you through a fleshed-out explanation of how to acquire the resources needed to unlock the Fleeces.
As many people already know, I’ve been completely addicted to Cult of the Lamb. I’ve even stated multiple times on stream I think it’s in the top 3 games I have played this year. Cult of the Lamb has also been one of the few games that I have been excited to wake up and write about this year.
There’s just something about Cult of the Lamb that really impresses me, the mixture of customization, basing and fighting, mixing my absolute favourite genres together to complete a game.
Now, although Cult of the Lamb doesn’t have the most amounts of Customization, players will still want to take advantage of these when they unlock them, especially for the Fleeces.
The reality is that players will be able to unlock all the Fleeces, which offer the most customization, relatively easily. However, Fleeces can take a good amount of time to farm out if the player is not focused on locating side quests and is spending more time in base or actually completing Dungeon Crawling.
The following guide will take you through everything you need to know about unlocking Fleeces, including how to obtain all the Holy Talisman Fragments available to you.
HOW TO UNLOCK FLEECES
Fleeces are unlocked by obtaining 4 Holy Talisman Fragments, each granted from different NPCs in Cult of the Lamb that provide side quests.
These side quests are completely optional and, as mentioned in my guide about Fleeces, are not necessary for completing the game.
Once a player has obtained four Fragments of the Holy Talisman players will receive an animated prompt that shows the formation of a complete Holy Talisman and then must head to their Temple.
In the Temple players must select the Crown option, which is located in the pulpit, to select which Fleece they would like
For each completed Holy Talisman, players will be able to select a single Fleece, meaning that players will need a total of 5 Holy Talismans to collect them all. As players can only secure a single Holy Talisman shard at a time players will need to collect a total of 20 Holy Talisman Fragments to complete their set.
Whenever a player selects a Fleece to unlock this is permanent, meaning that a player cannot change their mind and would instead simply need to complete another Holy Talisman.
HOW DO YOU GET ALL THE HOLY TALISMAN FRAGMENTS
In order to unlock the Talisman Fragments players must begin by completing the various Dungeons. Whenever a player sees a “?” they should try to focus on heading to these rooms as they have the chance to locate the character required to unlock a new area.
Depending on what a player needs, I typically recommend players focus on heading into rooms with “?’s” as they tend to lead to better results; however, if a player is simply completing a run to gain more Followers or to farm resources like Crystals, this might not want to be your primary focus.
Still, I would recommend that whenever you are in a new Dungeon you always focus on heading into the “?” rooms as this will help you unlock new parts of the story and even unlock aspects of the game that will help you progress faster. Without spoiling too much, players can obtain new Rituals, Tarot Cards as well as Mini-games this way.
The following section will have a good amount of spoilers in it, obviously as this is a guide, but I will make sure to cover things in order as they happen, so you can choose to keep reading ahead or not.
THE FISHERMAN (LOCATED IN PILGRIM’S PASSAGE)
One of the first NPCs players will locate in Cult of the Lamb is the Fisherman. Located in the first Dungeon, Darkwood, the Fisherman will encourage players to find him in Pilgrim’s Passage where he will allow them to fish beside him.
Now, if players speak to him, they will be provided with a quest to locate the following fish:
A Squid
A Lobster
An Octopus
A Crab
All of these Fish can be found right beside The Fisherman by playing the short Fishing Mini-game that is reminiscent of Stardew Valley, though the type of Fish a player catches will be RNG.
I recommend that players always catch all the Fish that are available to them as Fish are an important ingredient when feeding your Followers quality meals, though bigger Fish shadows tend to reap better rewards.
If players are struggling to get the various types of Fish that the Fisherman requires, I strongly recommend that players select the Ocean’s Bounty Doctrine when it is made available to them. The Ocean’s Bounty Doctrine, not only helps increase the rarity of the Fish caught, but will also double the number of Fish that are provided to the player. This is by far one of the best ways to ensure that you always have enough food for your Followers, so I strongly recommend choosing it anyway.
The one sneaky thing about this quest is that players will not be alerted that they have collected any of the Fish requested from the Fisherman and will only be able to check the Fish off the list when they have turned them in. Due to this, players might be confused why it is taking them so long to catch the Fish, so always be sure to talk to the Fisherman after each time you Fish.
Players will be rewarded a single Holy Talisman piece for each of the requested Fish they present the Fisherman, gaining a maximum of four Holy Talisman Fragments.
After this players will be able to purchase Fish at anytime from the Fisherman.
SOZO (LOCATED IN SPORE GROTTO)
Sozo is an NPC I thought was going to be a nuisance to work with as I thought he was actually going to harm my cult more than help.
Sozo comes with a much longer quest-line than the Fisherman and will need the player to come visit him multiple times in order to complete the full quest.
Sozo is found in the second Dungeon, Anura.
Upon accepting Sozo’s first quest, players will have to return to Sozo with 10 Menticide Mushrooms, receiving a single Holy Talisman Fragment for their efforts.
Players can easily obtain the second Holy Talisman Fragment at the same time if they have enough Menticide Mushrooms as Sozo will then ask for 20 of this resource.
Next, Sozo will ask players to perform a risky Ritual called the Brainwashing Ritual. While extremely useful, I would strongly recommend that players wait until they have the Doctrine that negates the negative effects of this Ritual as it can end badly for players who are struggling with the various mechanics in the game. If you are comfortable with the repercussions, don’t wait and grab that juicy Holy Talisman Fragment.
Finally, players will be asked to build the Mushroom Sculpture in their base. This is located in the Decorations tab of construction and will be highlighted with a green “!” until players construct it. Players will then need to return to Sozo in order to collect the final Holy Talisman Fragment.
In total players will be able to collect four Holy Talisman Fragments from Sozo.
PLIMBO (LOCATED IN SMUGGLER’S SANCTUARY)
While adventuring through the third Dungeon, Anchordeep, players will be able to locate Pimbo who unlocks the Smuggler’s Sanctuary.
Plimbo’s quest will take players the longest amount of time and realistically will be the one that most players skip unless they really enjoy fighting.
Essentially, Plimbo will ask players to locate Eyes of the Witness, rewarding players with a single Holy Talisman Fragment for each Eye of the Witness players provide him.
This quest is to simply encourage players to replay already beaten Dungeons as instead of being faced by one of the Bishops, at the end of the Dungeon players will be facing a Witness which drops this resource.
There is a single Witness in each of the areas: Darkwood, Anura, Anchordeep and Silk’s Cradle and players will only get to battle each one once.
These quests are best done when a Follower requires a player to head back into a Dungeon for resources or to rescue a Follower to raise Loyalty, though due to the RNG nature of all of these tasks, players may have to head back into these Dungeons on their own accord.
Players can receive a total of 4 Holy Talisman pieces from Plimbo.
MIDAS (LOCATED IN MIDAS’S CAVE)
Midas’s Cave is the final area of the game and will require the ultimate sacrifice in order to gain Holy Talisman Fragments from.
Admittedly, due to the fact that Midas is so far into the late-game, this shouldn’t be an issue for players, but get ready to say goodbye to four of your Followers.
Midas requests that you turn in your Followers each for a single Holy Talisman Fragment, meaning that players can get a total of four Holy Talisman Fragments this way.
I would strongly recommend that you turn in very low Loyalty Followers that you have either just rescued or have purchased for Coins from Helob. Coins are very easy to get in the late-game, but if you’re struggling please check out my guide on how to get Coins quickly in Cult of the Lamb.
CLOAKED FIGURE (FOUND IN EACH SECRET LOCATION)
The Cloaked Figure is the hardest NPC to get Holy Talisman Fragments from and not because of its quests, but because it can be hard to locate them in each of the areas.
In each of the areas players will be able to locate the Cloaked Figure by heading to the areas with the Crescent Moon that states “Peer into the Darkness.” This will summon the Cloaked Figure which unlocks the prompts required.
In Pilgrim’s Passage, the Cloaked Figure is located at the end of the Dock. This prompt will require players to provide the Cloaked Figure with a big Fish, providing them with the first Holy Talisman Fragment.
In Spore Grotto, players can locate the Cloaked Figure to the left of the item shop. Here players will need to sacrifice a single Follower.
In Smugger’s Sanctuary, the Cloaked Figure is by the right dock. Here players will need to sacrifice two Followers.
Finally, in Midas’s Cave players can locate the Cloaked figure behind the Tarot Card Shop. Here players will need to decide if they will sacrifice Ratau. If players choose to sacrifice Ratau they will no longer be able to play Knucklebones against him, though this isn’t a big deal since he provides the worst reward.
Kill him.
In total players will get four Holy Talisman Fragments from the Cloaked Figure.
Players should note that they will only be able to locate the Cloaked Figure at night, so make sure you time this correctly as it can be a hassle to keep coming and going from your base.
