New World is considered an Open World game where players can freely roam across the whole map with no lock on what level they are or what their Weapon’s Gearscore or Expertise is.
The only area where this isn’t true at the moment is Brimstone Sands, being one of the areas that is a level 60+ area in the game. Given the way that the other areas in New World function, I would have thought that this area was accessible by the same means as other areas, but this is not true.
Even if a player has levelled up to Level 60, they will immediately die upon trying to enter Brimstone Sands if they have not completed the pre-requisite quest. There is absolutely no way to get around this, meaning that a player cannot simply build a lot of Constitution or build some sort of resistance to get in.
Now, while not everyone wants to complete things like the main story quests or adjacent quests, the quest that leads you into Brimstone isn’t actually that long and does not require players to even finish the main story. So, if you’re level 60, I strongly recommend focussing on getting into Brimstone before you complete the main story.
Why is Brimstone so important? Well, it’s going to be one of the best locations to farm loot and ensure that you are set for Mutation Dungeons. Admittedly a good amount of locations in Brimstone will require players to group up with other players, however, there are a number of quests a player can complete on their own that will provide them with invaluable Weapons that are all above Gear Score 600. Although many of these Weapons have pretty terrible perks, the biggest benefit to using them is their ability to retain their high Gear Score without being capped due to the player’s lack of Expertise.
Realistically, a player will want to swap these out when they have either purchased, crafted or located in a dungeon or through another means. Players will only want Legendary Gear that is Gear Score 600 in the end game as this is going to be the only way to maximize your stats and damage.
So let’s get started, what do you need to do in order to get into Brimstone Sands?
HOW DO YOU UNLOCK BRIMSTONE SANDS?
To begin, players will need to need to finish the Quest Strider of the Sands which is only accessible once players have hit level 60. This means that whether players have levelled by completing their Main Story, killing overworld mobs or by running Dungeons repeatedly, they will be able to complete this quest after they complete A Selfless Nature which is a Main Story Quest in Edengrove.
As mentioned, I would strongly recommend that players complete this quest as soon as it is made available to them as grinding Brimstone Sands is going to be one of the most helpful late game to regularly farm, even if it’s just for quick Elite Chest runs.
Though there are many areas players can complete Elite Chest runs, Brimstone is probably the easiest and smoothest with the most amount of chests to plunder. Many of these locations can also be completed with very low amounts of players, which you cannot do in some of the other locations.
Now, although every player will be able to access the quest for Brimstone Sands at the same time, the location for this quest will actually differ based on what faction you have decided to join. That being said, everyone is going to have to speak to Soulwarden Tomash.
Locations for Strider of the Sands include the following:
Syndicate will locate him in Shattered Mountain.
Mauraders will locate him in Ebonscale Reach.
Covenant will locate him in Great Cleave.
Now while all of these locations are different, players will need to complete the same tasks in order to complete the Strider of Sands quest.
HOW DO YOU COMPLETE THE STRIDER OF SANDS QUEST
The Strider of Sands quest is a pretty straightforward quest that should only take you a maximum of 30 minutes, though this can be greatly reduced if players prepare or use the Trading Post for some of the items required.
To begin, players will need to begin by Fishing as they will need 2 Fish Oil and 3 Frostcliff Berries.
Although Fishing is rather simple it can be time-consuming, especially if you’ve never done it before. I have a guide on Fishing here for everything you need to know, though realistically getting 2 Fish Oil will be very easy as almost all fish you catch will be able to drop it when salvaged. Due to how common Fish Oil is, it should be relatively cheap on the Trading Post on all servers.
The only time I can imagine Fish Oil being expensive is if someone does a lot of Cooking and really needs this resource for food.
As for Frostcliff Berries, players will only be able to obtain them when the quest is active. Depending on what Faction you are part of you will be lead to a different location.
The three locations are Eastern Shattered Mountain, Central Ebonscale Reach and Central Great Cleave.
Players will be able to locate these Berries on their map as they will have a waypoint both on the compass and on the actual map itself.
When players have located the Frostcliff Berries they will have to head to an Arcane Repository or a Campsite. If players want to save some time, I would recommend that they craft the Desert Cerate in a Campfire so they can quickly turn in the quest. Admittedly, this doesn’t save the most amount of time, but it also means you don’t need to pay taxes on crafting.
As soon as players have crafted the Desert Ceratethey can head into their inventory in order to apply it. As soon as it is applied players will be prompted to head into Brimstone Sands using the path that is just north of Ebonscale Reach.
From here players will want to head to the Wikalaal-Waha Outpost to speak to Soulwarden Buhawi Manabat. The path should be fairly clear of enemies, minus a few animals that are along the way, so make sure you have a few potions on hand just in case you take too much damage.
