Head Chef & Fishing | Hades Guide

Last Updated January 27, 2022 By Johnny Salib / FlamingGaymer Leave a Comment

The Head Chef is a pretty important part of Hades, even though it consists of a mechanic that the majority of players won’t be interested in.

The Head Chef is located in the Kitchen section of the House of Hades and although he always appears for players, players will not be able to interact with him until they have unlocked fishing with Poseidon.

The Head Chef’s main purpose is to provide players with rewards for Fishing, coming from simple Artifacts such as Gemstones, Nectar, Chthonic Keys and Darkness, but moving on to rewards as rare as Diamonds, Ambrosia and Titan Blood.

While the Head Chef isn’t going carry a player completely, it does prove to be extremely helpful when players are completing Artifact runs where a player is going to want to get as many rare Artifacts as they can.

Note: Watch me play Hades and similar games on Twitch! Always happy to answer questions there!

HOW TO UNLOCK FISHING

Fishing can be unlocked by speaking to the House Contractor and purchasing the Rod of Fishing.

Essentially with the Rod of Fishing, players will begin seeing a shining Flare in the water or magma where possible.

Fishing Spots are found in certain Chambers and don’t always have the fishing spot accessible, though players can use Poseidon to help guarantee a spawn where possible.

Players will not be able to experience a fish in every Chamber period as there is a 5-10 chamber cooldown so players aren’t getting too many resources.

WHAT ARE THE CHANCES OF A FISH APPEARING?

As mentioned there is going to be cooldown for how often a Fish spawns that is locked to each area.

After a player enters a new area, the cooldown is reset, providing players with a better chance of a fish spawning.

Players should always know that a Fishing spawn is available as they will hear a ding whenever they pick up the room reward, if there is one or when players enter the store location/Chamber with Eurydice or Patroclus.

The following are the chances of a Fish spawning in each area and how long the cooldown is.

TARTARUS

Tartarus has a 25% chance to spawn a Fish every 10 Chambers.

ASPHODEL

Asphodel has a 10% chance to spawn a Fish every 10 Chambers.

ELYSIUM

Elysium has a  10% chance to spawn a Fish every 10 Chambers.

HUB OF STYX

The Hub of Styx has a 10% chance to spawn a Fish every 10 Chambers.

CHAOS

Chaos has a 7% chance to spawn a Fish every 5 Chambers.

GREECE

Greece always has a 20% chance to spawn a Fish.

HOW DO YOU FISH IN HADES?

Fishing in Hades is actually quite simple, making games like Stardew Valley shudder in fear and acting fairly similar to Don’t Starve Together.

Players will have to stand next to the glowing spawn and will need to press their Interact Key in order to begin fishing. At this point the bobble will begin to bounce up to  3 times, though when the bobble becomes submerged the fish is ready to be caught.

Players should do their best not to rely on the sounds of the game in order to catch fish as this may lead the player to miss the majority of the fish they want to catch. A visual prompt should be taken as it is the only reliable way to catch fish.

A hidden element I was uncertain of at first is the fact that a player will actually catch better fish the faster they are at actually responding to the bobble.

While all fish are useful, players will want to practice their Fishing to get better fish so they can in turn get better rewards.

The windows are as follows:

If a player catches a Fish in less than 0.34 seconds this is considered a Perfect Catch which provides a 50/50 chance of getting a Rare or Legendary Fish.

If a player catches a Fish within 0.34-0.68 seconds they will have a 50/50 chance to get a Common or Rare Fish.

Players only have 0.68 seconds to catch a Fish before it is “Too Late.”

Players should not worry about taking “too much” time fishing, especially in speed runs or with the “Tight Deadline” Heat amplifier as time will be paused to Fish.

WHAT FISH CAN YOU CATCH AND WHAT DO THEY GIVE YOU AT THE HEAD CHEF?

There are a total of 18 Fish to be caught in Hades, each providing players with different resources.

Each type of Fish has a respective Biome, meaning that players who are trying to complete their Codex will want to make sure that they are aware of the Fish locations and their rarities if they are trying to fill it out, though at the end of the day it’s always going to be beneficial to catch any Fish available to you.
