When it comes to purchasing or collecting resources in FFXIV it can quickly become confusing, especially as players meet more and more Vendors.
Although many Vendors will be able to sell the majority of items you’re looking for, there are going to be some items that seem harder to find than others.
Lucky for you, Gysahl Greens are actually available in many locations, making them quite easy to obtain.
While I would recommend that players always have Gysahl Greens on them at all times, players can get away with having a minimum of 50 in their inventory so they don’t need to restock between FATES or whatever you’re currently grinding.
Note: If you have any questions about FFXIV that you want me to cover feel free to leave them in a comment below, you can also ask me while I am streaming on Twitch, YouTube or in our community discord.
WHAT ARE GYSAHL GREENS
Gysahl Greens are a resource that can be used to summon your Chocobo Companion and keep it active in battle. For each Gysahl Green players use, their Chocobo Companion will remain summoned for 30 minutes.
Players can feed their Chocobo Companion a maximum of 2 Gysahl Greens before it does not take any effect as a player can only summon their Chocobo for a maximum of 60 minutes and will not be able to overcap this.
I would strongly recommend only feeding your Chocobo once and topping it up every time you have 5 minutes on the clock left, though this will depend on what the player’s preference is and whether or not you think your Chocobo will die anytime soon.
My issue with feeding my Chocobo too many Gysahl Greens is that I inevitably always leave my character AFK unmounted essentially depleting the timer and though Gysahl Greens are not the most expensive resource, it does feel quite silly to summon your Chocobo and immediately AFK because you had to start eating dinner.
Gysahl Greens are not the only food a player can use to summon a Chocobo Companion and I would strongly suggest players take a look at my Chocobo Companion guide to see what other options you have.
I personally only use them because they are so inexpensive, however, if you are hoping to get more damage, healing or defence out of your Chocobo other foods may be better since Gysahl Greens provide no stat benefit to the Companion.

IS IT WORTH BUYING GYSAHL GREENS WITH BLACK COPPER GIL?
Players may have a good amount of Black Copper Gil if they have completed a number of Vath Tribal Quests. If you’re anything like me, you’ve hoarded hundreds of this currency and never have any idea what to spend it on, but I’m here to tell you it’s not Gysahl Greens.
As Gysahl Greens are extremely inexpensive from regular Vendors which are located virtually everywhere in Eorzea, there’s never a reason to use this limited currency on them. Though I personally don’t sell resources purchased from this Tribe, there are much more pricy resources a player can purchase that can be sold for a much higher value to fund your Gysahl Greens stockpile.
CAN YOU BUY GYSAHL GREENS ON THE MARKETBOARD?
You can in fact buy and sell Gysahl Greens from the Marketboard, though I don’t really recommend this. Realistically market board sellers are trying to turn a profit on items including those which are inexpensive from Vendors.
While there are a number of resources that are sold from Vendors that are quite hard to reach or a nuisance to find, the reality is that if there is a Marketboard nearby there is also a Vendor that sells Gysahl Greens.
I would strongly recommend that you get into the habit of topping yourself up when your Gysahl Greens get low rather than ending up with none in your inventory when you most need them. As I regularly farm FATEs with members of my community I burn through Gysahl Greens extremely frequently, so I’ll typically buy a stack of 300 or so at a time.
If you’re worried about spending too much Gil I highly encourage you to take a look at my guide on the most efficient ways to make Gil as you can make tens of thousands of Gil in a few minutes which is a lot of Gysahl Greens.
For a quick analysis of how much Gysahl Greens cost on the market board on my server, they are currently 120 each, meaning that they are about 3-4x the price.
CAN YOU SEND YOUR RETAINER ON A VENTURE FOR GYSAHL GREENS?
While retainers are extremely useful for grabbing the majority of resources you need, they unfortunately cannot help you with Gysahl Greens.
You may, however, be interested in my analysis of what the best Retainer Ventures are so you can utilize the funds to buy your stockpile.
CAN YOU HARVEST GYSAHL GREENS WITH A BOTANIST OR MINER?
I was somewhat baited into believing there was a way to harvest Gysahl Greens as there is a resource from nodes that looks strikingly similar, however, it is not the much-needed Greens.
CAN YOU GARDEN GYSAHL GREENS?
Are you ready for a shocker? You can actually garden Gysahl Greens, but it is never advisable unless you are planning on using them to Crossbreed into other plants.
For the most part, Gardening is very complicated and will require you to not only have a house but also spend a few days tending to your crops and ensuring that they don’t wilt before they are ready to be harvested.
While there are a decent amount of seeds that can be obtained with Botanists, the only way to obtain a Gysahl Green seed is through crossbreeding and since these seeds are used for cross-breeding some decent selling gardening supplies the seeds themselves cost quite a bit on the Marketboard when available.
If you’re curious check out FFXIV Gardening’s website, they’ve been extremely helpful to me and they will give you some good ideas on what to expect when Gardening including what kind of things you may want to garden for if you want Gysahl Greens in the mix.
I wouldn’t necessarily make this your goal, but if there is something worth selling on your server that uses them, it might be an option for you.
