Cult of the Lamb has been my latest obsession, especially with how many folks in my Twitch Community. Though at this point I’ve completed the game a few times, I haven’t covered nearly as much as I want to cover on the blog, so be expecting a lot more content with Cult of the Lamb, especially as I continue to receive your questions.
Though Cult of the Lamb hasn’t been the toughest game out of all the Dungeon Crawlers I’ve played, it does have a good amount of challenging areas that I need to replay a few times in order to progress. I’ll be honest, I think the main reason I wasn’t able to progress in these areas is because I ignored certain aspects of the game that would have helped me, the biggest one being the Demonic Summoning Circle.
I’m honestly quite upset that I didn’t pay attention to the Demonic Summoning Circle at first, especially as someone who writes guides, but I was worried that it would be detrimental to my Cult, though this is not true at all.
The Demonic Summoning Circle is one of the best utilities in all of Cult of the Lamb, especially because players will be able to use it as aggressively as they want to, essentially meaning that you can utilize it to fully carry you or just help you a little bit.
I have to say, the Demonic Summoning Circle can feel a bit confusing when you first gain access to it and isn’t essential for players to unlock immediately, but once you get the hang of it I’m sure you’ll love it!
The following guide will take you through everything you need to know about the Demonic Summoning Circle, including strategies I would recommend you take to make sure you are able to utilize the Demonic Summoning Circle in the best way possible.
HOW DO YOU UNLOCK THE DEMONIC SUMMONING CIRCLE?
In order to unlock the Demonic Summoning Circle players will need to unlock it using the Divine Inspiration Skill Tree. The first instance of it is in the second tier of the Skill Tree, though players will be able to upgrade this even further with the Demonic Summoning Circle II and III.
Essentially the biggest difference between all of these is that the first Demonic Summoning Circle allows you to take one Follower, II lets you take two and III lets you take three Followers.
While players do not need to have the tier-3 Demonic Summoning Circle, I would recommend that players have at least a tier-2 one as having two Followers join you on your Dungeon Crawling missions.
HOW DOES THE DEMONIC SUMMONING CIRCLE WORK?
As soon as players have the Demonic Summoning Circle they can head to it to select which Followers they will want to bring with them. The reason I originally avoided the Demonic Summoning Circle was that I was worried that my Followers would die if I died in a run, but this is not true.
Demons actually have no health and will not disappear anytime the player dies, though they will become tired whenever the player returns to base. This is simply fixed by either sending the Followers to bed or allowing them to sleep through a night cycle.
Every Follower will have a set of passives that are randomized, so it’s always a good idea to take a look at all of your Followers to ensure that you level up the ones you really want.
The passives are as follows:
Melee attacks to the nearest enemy.
Fly to collect red hearts.
Targets a random enemy and explodes next to them.
Grants you half a spirit heart at the start of the dungeon.
Automatically recovers Fervor and provides more Fervor.
Fires a projectile at the nearest enemy.
The more powered up a Follower is, the more their passive will be productive, for example, Followers will deal more damage, provide more Fervor or will provide more Spirit Hearts.
In my opinion, the best Followers to bring are as follows:
Melee Attacks, Projectiles or Explosive (a maximum of 2.)
Fervor Followers, as having the most Fervor as you can is extremely helpful for their ranged capabilities.
Runner-ups are the Spirit Hearts and the Red Hearts one is honestly… not great.
At the end of the day, players will only be able to take a single Follower of each type up to a maximum of three, so choose wisely, though there’s no issue with levelling up multiple Followers as you can simply resurrect them if any of them die or if you need to sacrifice any.
SOME TIPS FOR THE DEMONIC SUMMONING CIRCLE
When using the Demonic Summoning Circle you’re going to want to make sure you have to be sure to level up a select few Followers so that they provide you with more bonuses for your grinds.
Players who are anything like me are going to find it difficult to tell between their Followers, especially when they forget what passives they all have. Though this might be simpler for players who have about 10-20 Followers, it becomes a lot more difficult if you ended up playing Cult of the Lamb like me and ended up with 40-50 Followers on average.
Though there is never a need to have that many Followers, if you’re someone who likes to min-max like me, you’re going to end up in a similar situation as me where you really can’t quickly tell between your Followers.
While players can initially name their Followers, the reality is that it’s going to be hard to tell which Followers are going to be the most useful or which you’re going to want to continually resurrect, so in my opinion “naming” your Followers is kind of out of the question for differentiating between your Followers. The same can be said with choosing Follower Forms for the Followers.
Now, what you can do is choose the Marriage Ritual with your Doctrines as this puts a cute little symbol near any of your spouses to differentiate between them. I know this is a bit “silly” to think about as it’s just a small time saver, but this will also help you in the long run.
It’s no secret that levelling up your Followers will make them better for your Dungeon Crawling missions, so having things like the Marriage will make it easier to upgrade the Followers you do like.
Whenever you get a new Follower I strongly recommend checking what their passive is. If someone has the passive you’re in need of and has a boost to loyalty, make sure to marry them so you can level them up faster.
I’ll write a guide on the best ways to raise Loyalty soon.
Unfortunately, there is no way to sort your Followers in the Demonic Summoning Circle, so you’re going to have to be in charge of how you figure out who you want.
