As many of my regulars on Twitch know, I’m a giant Kirby fan, especially as it’s one of the only franchises that I would buy and preorder the games for. With the latest hype of Kirby and the Forgotten Dreamland, I was ecstatic to start playing and even broke my rule of never playing Demos to play.
Kirby and the Forgotten Dreamland is one of the most unique Kirby games I have ever played, not only adding new abilities (which can be upgraded) that players can try out, but also adding Missions that a player must complete in order to collect extra Waddle Dees, which unlock different shops in the game.
Admittedly, I find that Kirby games are quite straight forward in comparison to other games, being slightly easier than the average Nintendo game to 100%, though this isn’t the most true with Kirby Forgotten Dreamland as players will be met with a variety of quests that are hidden to them upon entering a map.
While many of these Missions will provide players with a single Waddle Dee, there are a number of them that will provide players with a maximum of 4 Waddle Dees.
The following guide will take you through everything you need to know when locating the Waddle Dees in Through the Tunnel which is the second map players can access in Kirby and the Forgotten Land. Players can also use this guide to find the multiple Capsules available to them:
CLEAR STAGE
As is with all maps, players will have the ability to save 3 Waddle Dees for simply completing the map. Admittedly, this is a good chunk of Waddle Dees that can be useful for purchasing new shops for upgraded ability, however, players will want to ensure that they collect more Waddle Dees using the Missions in the long-run as this will help them gain access to the shops faster.
SAVE ALL HIDDEN WADDLE DEES
Admittedly, while I found all of the Hidden Waddle Dees in the first try, I have to say that I found the mechanics to locate the Waddle Dees in this area a lot trickier and anxiety inducing.
The Waddle Dees aren’t always in plain sight this time around and players will have to interact with different mechanisms in order to unlock the areas that the Waddle Dees are hidden, making it a bit more challenging for players.
The following are all the locations for Waddle Dees in Through the Tunnel.
THROUGH THE TUNNEL WADDLE DEE #1
The first Waddle Dee is located in the chest to the back of Hidden Room.
If you are unsure where this is, please scroll down to that Mission.
THROUGH THE TUNNEL WADDLE DEE #2
After players ignite the fourth Lantern they must follow the coins that appear to a hidden path that will take them to a bomb box they can ignite.
Doing so will destroy all the metal containers, revealing a lost Waddle Dee.
THROUGH THE TUNNEL WADDLE DEE #3
In the next area players will locate a long fuse that can be used to ride a Cannon.
Players must ignite this fuse and quickly make their way to the Cannon in order to shoot up and destroy the metal boxes above it.
Doing so will reveal the third Waddle Dee.
Note, if players do not complete this properly the first time, they will get as many chances as they need as the fuse will always reappear.
THROUGH THE TUNNEL WADDLE DEE #4
When players see another fuse on the ground they must park their stairs in front of the blockade again, ignite the fuse and climb the stairs quickly so they can get into the Canon on time.
Upon reaching the canon, if players are successful, they will be shot up destroying all the metal containers and locating a Waddle Dee with two Chests by it.
FIND THE SECRET ROOM
After players make their way through the tunnel they will be met with an area with two ways to travel.
Players can either take the riskier way, which has mobs, or the safe way, which is a thin ledge.
Players are always encouraged to take the riskier way as it will allow them to collect extra coins.
On one of the ledges is a BBQ that players must use Kirby’s Mouthful Mode to take off the lid. Do so by sucking up the BBQ and rotating your control stick rapidly.
Upon doing this players will locate a blue button with a star in it which will unseal a hidden area.
Note this isn’t the only step here as there’s a hidden Waddle Dee!
LIGHT 4 LANTERN SWITCHES
I have to say, I was very excited to see this mechanism in the game and I only discovered it because I like to mess around with the different elements in the game. It was just happen stance that I chose to get the fire ability as soon as I entered the level (as admittedly it is not one of my favourite abilities in any Kirby game), but knowing the troupe of Kirby, I had a feeling that the first enemy you can suck up typically lets you know what you’re about to go through in the world.
Players will have to ignite 4 Oil Lanterns in order to rescue a Waddle Dee, meaning that it is best advised that players have the Fire ability on them for the duration of the whole map.
While not the easiest ability to use due to it’s fairly short range, it’s the only ability you really need in this level, other than the Mouthful Mode you unlock.
LANTERN #1
The first Lantern comes pretty quickly for players, located immediately after players locate their first Fire mob.
It is to the right of the map, hidden behind a few blockades.
LANTERN #2
After players go through the first door with 3 Stars on it they will enter a new location that has a construction lamp as well as some more blockades.
To the left is a Lantern that players can ignite.
LANTERN #3
In the same area as Lantern 2, players will reach a star gate with a Capsule hidden in it.
To the right of this area is another Lantern that players can ignite to reveal the pathway to unlock this gate.
LANTERN #4
The fourth lantern is hidden in plain sight and will require players to either wait for the platform it is on to become flush with the platform the player is standing on or to fly and use a Fire attack on it.
Interacting with this Lantern will cause coins to appear.
REMOVE THE WANTED POSTER
After players become the staircase they will be able to walk those stairs to a sign that has Kirby crossed out. Here players can simply blow on the Poster in order to gain the “Remove the Wanted Poster” mission.
This can be located immediately after the second Capsule and players can park the stairs right by the blockade.
CAPSULE LOCATIONS
CAPSULE #1
After players ignite the third Lantern, players will unlock a path that will allow them to claim Capsule #1.
Follow the coins to find a blue button with a star in it and unlock the gate that has the Capsule.
CAPSULE #2
While players are the staircase using Kirby’s Mouthful Mode they will locate platforms that are too high to reach.
Park the staircase right by this area and climb the stairs in order to reach a bomb box that will reveal the second Capsule.
