I’ve already admitted that I’m fairly obsessive when it comes to collecting achievements, refusing to put down a game until I’ve secured all of the trophies or rewards players can obtain on any console that I am playing on.
When it comes to Plants Vs Zombies, I have to admit that I’ve completed the achievements on a number of the platforms, though admittedly there are a few platforms that I do not own, though I’m very happy to see that players will have different tasks they much achieve on all platforms to successfully unlock all the achievements.
Truthfully, I would be sad if Popcap Games chose to keep all of the achievements players could get in Plants Vs Zombies the same, especially as it is one of the games that I have played to completion a number of times.
While many of the achievements players can unlock are straight forward and do not require very much extra work out of the player, there are a few achievements players wouldn’t unlock traditionally that require players to strategize in order to unlock them.
Unfortunately, for players who played/are playing the original PC version of Plants Vs Zombies or the online version, you will not have access to achievements though for those of you who are playing on the newer PC edition of Plants Vs Zombies, iOS, Xbox Live, Playstation, Nintendo DS, Android or Kindle Fire this guide is for you.
The following guide will take players through all the achievements they can unlock in all versions of Plants Vs Zombies as well as the strategies on how to unlock them easily.
ACHIEVEMENTS FOR THE PC VERSION OF PLANTS VS ZOMBIES
ASK ME ABOUT MUSTACHE MODE
The Ask Me About Mustache Mode/Moustache Mode achievement can be unlocked by typing in either “mustache” or “moustache” when in the main menu of the Game of the Year Edition of Plants Vs Zombies.
Upon unlocking players will begin seeing some Zombies appearing with Moustaches on their face.
While unlike many other games where special aesthetics are toggleable, such as in Bloons Tower Defense 6, the Mustache Zombies will always have a chance to spawn from here on out.
Unfortunately there is no way to increase the amount of Moustache Zombies that spawn.
BETTER OFF DEAD
The “Better Off Dead” achievement can be unlocked when players complete a streak of 10 in the I, Zombie Endless game mode.
The Zombies Endless game is quite difficult for players to get the hang of as players will be in control of Zombies instead of Plants.
Players should be aware of Umbrella Leaves and Magnet-shrooms as they will essentially prevent players from placing stronger Zombies, such as Buckethead Zombies, so players should make sure that they take them out quickly if they hope to use Zombies that throw Imps or have metallic items in their hands or on their heads, such as Ladders.
Players should utilize Dancing Zombies for rows that have Plants with low DPS as this will help players defeat lanes with weaker and in lanes with stronger Plants, especially those with status effects, players should place Zombies with shields, such as a Ladder Zombie or Buckethead Zombie as this will raise the chance of being able to actually infiltrate the house.
Spikeweeds may be a very easy Plant to deal with, but players will want to make sure that they do not place low health Zombies such as Imps or Dancing Zombies into them as they will be killed before getting to any Plants on the other side.
CHINA SHOP
The “China Shop” achievement can be unlocked when players get a streak of 15 when playing on Vasebreaker Endless.
When trying to collect the “China Shop” achievement, players will will have to be very strategic of which Vases they open and how they use the Plants that they receive.
In most cases, players will want to avoid using Squash on weaker Zombies and will want to save them for the bigger ones like Gargantuars as players will only need two Squashes to actually destroy the Gargantuar.
The same can be said for Cherry Bombs, though Cherry Bombs can also simply be used on massive amounts of Zombies that are quickly approaching the players.
Cherry Bombs should never be used near Vases as this will essentially destroy the Vases and may wreak havoc on players.
Players should try to prioritize finding Threepeaters as placing one in the second and fourth lanes will protect players from the majority of the Zombies that approach their house.
If players have access to Threepeaters, they should place Snow Peas into lanes that have lesser damage and regular Pea Shooters in lanes that have higher amounts of damage.
CRYPTOZOMBOLOGIST
The “Cryptoozombologist” achievement can be unlocked when players enccounter a Zombie Yeti which is found in Level 4-10, also known as Fog 10, upon completing Adventure Mode for the first time.
Players should note that it is impossible to get the “Cryptozombologist” achievement without completing the Adventure Mode at least once, making this achievement one of the lesser obtained achievements in the game.
It should be noted that players will not be able to obtain the “Cryptozombologist” achievement by placing a Zombie Yeti on the I, Zombie hack game mode.
DISCO IS UNDEAD (A.K.A. “WALK THIS WAY”)
Formally called “Walk this Way” the “Disco is Undead” achievement is obtained when players hypnotize a Dancing Zombie when using a Hypno-shroom.
There is no real strategy to obtaining the “Disco is Undead” achievement, though players should be wary when hypnotizing Dancing Zombies as they move fairly close to the Backup Dancers that they summon.
Players should never place a Hypno-shroom preemptively if they hope to hypnotize the Dancing Zombie as this will ensure that the wrong Zombie will walk into the Hypno-shroom.
EXPLODONATOR
The “Explodonator” achievement can be achieved by killing 10 Zombies with a single Cherry Bomb, requiring players to only place the Cherry Bomb when they are being bombarded by Zombies.
Players will be able to acquire the “Explodonator” achievement as early as Level 1-3 (also know as Day 3) after the Cherry Bomb is unlocked, though players can essentially wait to unlock the “Explodonator” achievement until much later on.
Players can easily acquire the “Explodonator” achievement by placing a column of Wall-nuts in order to contain all Zombies into one area and increase the chances of there being a total of 10 Zombies clumped together.
Players can also choose to funnel all Zombies into the center 3 lanes by placing Garlic on the top and bottom lanes.
While players can often acquire the “Explodonator” achievement without trying to force it, it’s a good idea to keep your eye out on your achievements to see if it’s time you bring a Cherry Bomb onto your kit.
HOME LAWN SECURITY
The “Home Lawn Security” achievement can be obtained by completing Adventure Mode, also providing the player with a Silver Sunflower Trophy at the same time.
IMMORTAL
The “Immortal” achievement can be obtained by surviving 20 waves when playing Survival: Endless.
Players must select their Plants for wave 21 before the achievement is unlocked, so please don’t exit out of the game too early or you will have to redo all 20 waves, which is truly annoying.
MORTICULTURALIST
The “Morticulturalist” achievement can be unlocked when players buy all of the upgrade plants and the Imitater from Crazy Dave’s Twiddydinkies, requiring a whopping $98,000 in total.
NOBEL PEAS PRIZE
The “Nobel Peas Prize” achievement is unlocked by collecting the Gold Sunflower Trophy, which requires players to complete Adventure Mode and complete all mini-games, puzzles, and survival levels.
Players will not have to play any of the endless versions of these games or the mini-games that are part of the Limbo Page (hacked) in order to obtain the “Nobel Peas Prize” achievement.
SPUDOW!
The “SPUDOW!” achievement requires players to explode a Zombie using a Potato Mine, meaning that players will at least need to play Level 1-6 (Day 6).
TOWERING WISDOM
The “Towering Wisdom” achievement requires players to grow the Tree of Wisdom until it is at least 100 feet tall, meaning that players will need at least 94 bags of Tree Food.
Players will have to spend a total of $245,000 in order to buy all the Tree Food.
(SCRAPPED) NO-COB-NO-EXPLODE
The “No-Cob-No-Explode” achievement cannot be obtained, though through data mining players have been ale to successfully learn that it was initially going to require players to beat Last Stand without using Cob Cannons.
(SCRAPPED) SULTAN OF SPIN
The “Sultan of Spin” achievement cannot be obtained, though through data mining players have been ale to successfully learn thatit was initially going to require players to upgrade all of their plants in Beghouled Twist.
ACHIEVEMENTS FOR THE GAME OF THE YEAR EDITION OF THE PC VERSION OF PLANTS VS ZOMBIES
BEYOND THE GRAVE
The “Beyond the Grave” achievement requires players to beat all mini-games.
DON’T PEA IN THE POOL
The “Don’t Pea in the Pool” achievement is unlocked when players do not place any peat shooting plants in a Pool level.
Players can still use Pea Shooters, Cabbage-pults, Cactuses, Starfruits, Chompers, Melon-pults or Cattails while trying to grind out the “Don’t Pea in the Pool” achievement.
Players can also try to use Squash or Jalepenos to obtain the “Don’t Pea in the Pool” achievement, though this is usually more difficult due to their cool down timers.
Players may also choose to use any mushrooms in tandem with a Coffee Bean in order to obtain the “Don’t Pea in the Pool” achievement, though this is usually more costly and not as useful.
It should be noted that players cannot obtain the “Don’t Pea in the Pool” achievement when completing a Fog level.
GOOD MORNING
The “Good Morning” achievement can be obtained by placing only mushroom during a Day or Pool level and using a Coffee Beans to wake them up.
Players will not be able to obtain the “Good Morning” achievement on a Roof level unfortunately.
Reason being? The Flower Pot is not considered a night-time Plant, though Lily Pads obviously are as they are used in the Fog levels.
Players will want to use the following mushrooms as their base Plants:
Sun-shrooms
Coffee Beans
Puff-Shrooms
Scaredy-shrooms
Fume-Shrooms
Players can choose to use the upgrades of Fume-Shrooms, Gloom-shrooms as one of their Plants, though players can also use:
Doom-shrooms
Hypno-shrooms
Ice-shrooms
GROUNDED
The “Grounded” achievement can be unlocked by completing a Roof level without using any lobbed-shot Plants, meaning that players will have to rely on:
Sunflowers
Flower Pots
Coffee Beans
Peashooters
Snow Peas
Repeaters
Fume-shrooms
Umbrella Leaves
Garlic
Chompers
Gloom-shrooms
Jalapenos
Squash
Pumpkins
Cherry Bombs
Wall-nuts
Tall-nuts
Garlic
Threepeaters
Torchwood
Gatling Peas
Players will want to ensure that they do not place any Plants on the slope of the Roof, though if players are using Squash, Jalapenos or other Plants that can still deal damage, I guess it’s still an option.
NO FUNGUS AMONG US
The “No Fungus Among Us” achievement is acquired by completing a Night level without placing any Mushrooms.
Players will need to be a bit strategic when trying to obtain the “No Fungus Among Us” achievement as it will often result in the first Sunflower being eaten, though players can often obtain at least one Garden Rake to avoid this.
Players will still be able to plant Lily Pads when trying to obtain the “No Fungus Among Us” achievement.
PENNY PINCHER
The “Penny Pincher” achievement can be unlocked by collecting 30 coins in a game, though players will also need to make sure thatthey do not miss any coins as this will deny them the achievement.
Players will want to complete this achievement using Marigolds and Gold Magnets as this will make sure that you generate enough coins for the achievement and do not miss a single one!
POPCORN PARTY
The “Popcorn Party” achievement requires players to kill two Gargantuars using Corn Cobs in the same level.
While players can still use other Plants to weaken the Gargantuars, players must secure the takedown using a Corn Cob.
The best level to do this on is Level 5-8 (Roof 8) as this is the first level where multiple Gargantuars appear.
ROLL SOME HEADS
The “Roll Some Heads” achievement requires players to kill at least 5 Zombies using a single Wall-nut in Wall-nut Bowling.
It may take players a good amount of time in order to obtain the “Roll Some Heads” achievement as Wall-nuts have a bit of a sporratic method of bouncing around.
Players should wait until there is a large wave of Zombies that makes it at least halfway through their lanes to try to get the “Roll Some Heads” achievement.
Players will be able to acquire the “Roll Some Heads” achievement easier by playing Wall-nut Bowling 2.
It should be noted that Explode-o-nuts and Giant Wall-nuts do not count towards this achievement.
SUNNY DAYS
The “Sunny Days” achievement requires players to have 8,000 Sun at any time during a level.
To acquire this achievement players will need to Plant a hoard of Sunflowers or Twin Sunflowers.
It is best to do this on Level 1-4 (Day 4) or another easier map.
ACHIEVEMENTS FOR THE IOS VERSION OF PLANTS VS ZOMBIES
HOME LAWN SECURITY
The “Home Lawn Security” achievement can be obtained by completing Adventure Mode, also providing the player with a Silver Sunflower Trophy at the same time.
SPUDOW!
The “SPUDOW!” achievement requires players to explode a Zombie using a Potato Mine, meaning that players will at least need to play Level 1-6 (Day 6).

LAST MOWN STANDING
The “Lawn Mown Standing” achievement requires players to defeat the last Zombie in a level by letting it walk into a Lawn Mower.
Players will want to do this by digging up a Plant as the last Zombie makes its way to the end of the map.
20 BELOW ZERO
The “20 Below Zero” achievement requires players to freeze at least 20 Zombies using an Ice-shroom.
It can be quite difficult to get the “20 Below Zero” achievement, simply because players are letting out too much damage, though players can use Tall-nuts or Wall-nuts to force Zombies to remain still until a player has collected enough Zombies to freeze.
FLOWER POWER
The “Flower Power” achievement can be unlocked by placing 10 Twin Sunflowers on a map at the same time.
Unfortunately the count is not cumulative, so players will have to keep all 10 Twin Sunflowers alive at the same time.
Players will not be able to aquire the “Flower Power” achievement if they do not complete the level without all 10 Twin Sunflowers out, though players can easily dupe the system by placing Wall-nuts or Tall-nuts continuously in Level 1-1 (Day 1) while the last Zombie approaches so that they have the time to plant all 10 Twin Sunflowers.
PYROMANIAC
The “Pyromaniac” achievement can be unlocked by winning any level using only Explosive Plants, being:
Cherry Bombs
Potato Mines
Doom-shrooms
Jalapenos
Cob Cannons (as long as the Kernel-pults don’t kill a Zombie)
Ice-shrooms
Players will still be able to use Sun generating plants, though they will not be able to use Lawn Mowers, Pool Cleaners, Garden Rakes or Roof Cleaners as doing such will deny the player of the “Pyromaniac” achievement.
Players will also be able to use:
Wall-nuts
Tall-nuts
Pumpkins
Garlic
Grave Busters
LAWN MOWER MAN
The “Lawn Mower Man” achievement requires players to kill 10 Zombies by using a single Lawn Mower.
Players are encouraged to acquire the “Last Mower Man” achievement in the Wall-nut Bowling or Wall-nut Bowling 2 mini-games as it is the easiest way to collect Zombies, though players can also use a Wall-nut or Tall-nut in a single lane to keep Zombies back while they prepare for acquiring the achievement.
Players can easily do this in Level 1-1 (Day 1) simply by using Garlic to lead all Zombies into a single lane.
CHILL OUT
The “Chill Out” achievement requires players to destroy 3 Zombie Bobsled Teams with Jalapenos in the same level.
Players may want to do this in Level 3-10 (Pool 10) as this is an easier level to complete this on, though players should note that they should not use Spikeweeds as killing a Zomboni will not allow Zombie Bobsled Teams to spawn.
DEFCORN 5
The “Defcorn 5” achievement requires players to have at least 5 Cob Cannons in a single level.
As players will need a minimum of 3,500 Sun to purchase 5 Cob Cannons, players will want Sunflowers, Twin Sunflowers and may even want to use the Imitater to create more Sunflowers in order to generate Sun even faster.
Players may want to pair up these Plants with Tall-nuts and Spikeweed to ensure that they have enough defenses, but do not take down Zombies too fast so that they are unable to Plant the Cob Cannons in time.
MONSTER MASH
The “Monster Mash” achievement can be unlocked by killing five for more Zombies with a single Squash.
Similar to many of the achievements above, players will want to make sure that they do not deal too much damage to Zombies before placing a Squash and in most cases will want to pair it up with a Tall-nut or Wall-nut in order to have the Zombies all clumped up and ready to be squashed by the… er… Squash.
BLIND FAITH
The “Blind Faith” achievement requires players to complete a super foggy level (ie. Level 4-7/Fog 7, Level 4-8/Fog 8 or Level 4-9/Fog 9) without using any Plants that allow sight beyond the Fog.
This means that players will not be able to use Blovers or Planters to gain visibility, requiring their skills to push through the level.
Players will want to take a variety of Plants, focussing on planting AoE mushrooms such as the Fume-shroom as well as Garlic to lead Zombies into lanes that deal higher damage.
Players can also take defensive Plants to ensure that Zombies don’t leak, though players can also place multiple free Plants, such as Puff-shrooms and Sea-shrooms to sacrifice to the Zombies.
POOL’S CLOSED
The “Pool’s Closed” achievement requires players to complete a Pool level without planting anything in the Pool, meaning that players will have to rely on Starfruit, Threepeaters, Gloom-shrooms and Cob Cannons.
As many of the AoE Plants are quite pricy, players will also want to bring Sunflowers and Twin Sunflowers in hopes of generating Sun very quickly.
MELON-Y LANE
The “Melon-y Lane” achievement requires players to plant at least a single Winter Melon in every lane.
As Winter Melons are quite expensive, players will want to make sure that they have both Sunflowers and Twin Sunflowers to fuel their Sun consumption.
SECOND LIFE
The “Second Life” achievement can be obtained by beating Adventure Mode through for a second time.
BEYOND THE GRAVE
The “Beyond the Grave” achievement requires players to beat all mini-games.
LUCKY SPIN
The “Lucky Spin” achievement can be obtained when players get the Slot Machine mini-game.
Players must have some luck to get the “Lucky Spin” achievement as they will need to roll 3 diamonds.
CHILLI FREE
The “Chilli Free” achievement requires players to complete the Column Like You See ‘Em game without the use of Jalapenos.
Players will have to be very strategic about how they use their support Plants as they will have to rely on Tall-nuts, Potato Mines, Squash, Pumpkins, Magnet-shrooms, Chompers and Melon-pults.
ENLIGHTENED
The “Enlightened” achievement requires players to collect every type of Zen Garden plant.
There are a total of 39 Plants players can collect, requiring players to either purchase them from Crazy Dave’s Twiddydinkies or receive them randomly from killing Zombies.
DIAMOND BEGHOULER
The “Diamond Beghouler” achievement requires players to upgrade all of their plants in the Beghouled Twist mini-game.
GREENFINGERS
The “Greenfingers” achievement requires players to grow at least 10 Plants to full size in the Zen Garden.
WALL-NOT ATTACK
The “Wall-Not Attack” achievement requires players to complete ZomBotany or ZomBotany 2 without the use of any defensive Plants, including Wall-nuts, Tall-nuts or Pumpkins.
Players will still be able to use Garlic, Potato Mines or simply use Puff-shrooms and Sun-shrooms to slow down Zombies.
PEKING EXPRESS
The “Peking Express” achievement requires players to quickly scroll through their achievements screen until the player spawns in Chinese Zombies.
Weird, eh?
SHOOTING STAR
The “Shooting Star” achievement requires players to complete the Seeing Stars game mode before the first Flag Zombie appears.
To do this, players should bring the following plants:
Sunflowrs
Twin Sunflowers
Starfruit
Kernel-pults
Squash
Potato Mines
Imitater as a Starfruit
Puff-shrooms (unwoken)
Sun-shrooms (unwoken)
SPROING! SPROING!
The “Sproing! Sproing!” achievement requires players to complete Pogo Party without the use of Magnet-shrooms or Tall-nuts.
SOL INVICTUS
The “Sol Invictus” achievement requires players to complete Last Stand with at least 2,000 Sun remaining by the end of the level.
I, WIN
The “I, Win” achievement requires players to beat all nine regular I, Zombie levels.
These include:
I, Zombie (level)
I, Zombie Too
Can You Dig It?
Totally Nuts
Dead Zeppelin
Me Smash!
ZomBoogie
Three Hit Wonder
All your brainz r belong to us

The “Where the Sun Don’t Shine” achievement requires players to complete the first I, Zombie level with at least 1,000 Sun remaining.

The “Undead Space” achievement requires players to kill at least 10,000 Zombies or more then scrole to the edge of space while on the Leaderboards screen.
SMASHING!
The “Smashing!” achievement requires players to complete all nine Vasebreaker levels.
GOTCHA!
The “Gotcha!” achievement requires players to use a single Plantern when playing either Ace of Vase or Vasebreaker Endless in order to reveal a Gargantuar.
While this will mostly take luck, players will want to try to place a Plantern in the middle of 8 vases, making the most out of the Plantern.

ACHIEVEMENTS ADDED ONLY FOR THE PLAYSTATION VITA VERSION OF PLANTS VS ZOMBIES
GROUNDED

Umbrella Leaves
Garlic
Chompers
Gloom-shrooms
Jalapenos
Squash
Pumpkins

Wall-nuts
Tall-nuts
Garlic
Threepeaters
Torchwood
Gatling Peas
Players will want to ensure that they do not place any Plants on the slope of the Roof, though if players are using Squash, Jalapenos or other Plants that can still deal damage, I guess it’s still an option.
ZOMBOLOGIST
The “Zombologist” achievement can be unlocked when players enccounter a Zombie Yeti which is found in Level 4-10, also known as Fog 10, upon completing Adventure Mode for the first time.
Players should note that it is impossible to get the “Zombologist” achievement without completing the Adventure Mode at least once, making this achievement one of the lesser obtained achievements in the game.
It should be noted that players will not be able to obtain the “Zombologist” achievement by placing a Zombie Yeti on the I, Zombie hack game mode.
DIAMOND BEGHOULER
The “Diamond Beghouler” achievement requires players to upgrade all of their plants in the Beghouled Twist mini-game.

WALL-NOT ATTACK
The “Wall-Not Attack” achievement requires players to complete ZomBotany or ZomBotany 2 without the use of any defensive Plants, including Wall-nuts, Tall-nuts or Pumpkins.
Players will still be able to use Garlic, Potato Mines or simply use Puff-shrooms and Sun-shrooms to slow down Zombies.

The “Sol Invictus” achievement requires players to complete Last Stand with at least 2,000 Sun remaining by the end of the level.

To do this, players should bring the following plants:
Sunflowrs

CHILL OUT
The “Chill Out” achievement requires players to destroy 3 Zombie Bobsled Teams with Jalapenos in the same level.
Players may want to do this in Level 3-10 (Pool 10) as this is an easier level to complete this on, though players should note that they should not use Spikeweeds as killing a Zomboni will not allow Zombie Bobsled Teams to spawn.

Umbrella Leaves
Garlic
Chompers
Gloom-shrooms
Jalapenos
Squash

The “Book Learner” achievement requires players to complete their Almanac.
DEMOLITIONER

Players can easily acquire the “Demoltioner” achievement by placing a column of Wall-nuts in order to contain all Zombies into one area and increase the chances of there being a total of 10 Zombies clumped together.
Players can also choose to funnel all Zombies into the center 3 lanes by placing Garlic on the top and bottom lanes.
While players can often acquire the “Demoltioner” achievement without trying to force it, it’s a good idea to keep your eye out on your achievements to see if it’s time you bring a Cherry Bomb onto your kit.
Players can easily get this achievement in the BOMB All Together! mini-game.

Players will still be able to plant Lily Pads when trying to obtain the “No Fungus Among Us” achievement.
LAST MOWN STANDING

Players will want to do this by digging up a Plant as the last Zombie makes its way to the end of the map.
20 BELOW ZERO
The “20 Below Zero” achievement requires players to freeze at least 20 Zombies using an Ice-shroom.

STILL STANDING
The “Still Standing” achievement requires players to finish all five Last Stand puzzles, though it should be noted that players will have to spend $100,000 in order to purchase the Last Stand game pack.
THE STUFF OF LEGENDS
The “The Struff of Legends” achievement requires players to survive 15 flags when playing Last Stand Endless.
HAMMER TIME!
The “Hammer Time!” achievement requires players to kill at 10 Gargantuars with mallets when playing Last Stand Endless.
