Since I started streaming on Twitch I’ve gained a bigger appreciation for story mode games, especially in the darker or scarier niches.
Along the way I discovered Little Nightmares, which by far is one of my favourite story mode games currently only being second to GRIS.
Little Nightmares takes us through an odd story where players must survive various mobs, not by attacking them, but by walking through the Little Nightmares world hiding and avoiding being caught by the big baddies.
There are a variety of achievements players are able to collect, some simply by completing the story, and others being a bit hidden away from players, however, fairly easy to acquire.
The following guide will take you through all of the achievements players can acquire in Little Nightmares, including those which can be acquired in the DLCs.
There are 13 base game achievements and 9 DLC achievements, totalling to 22 achievements in total.
STORY-RELATED / SIMPLE ACHIEVEMENTS
The Story-related and Simple Achievements are often obtained by all players. Players will be able to unlock all of these achievements by completing chapters of the game.
These achievements include:
THE PRISON
In order to acquire The Prison achievement, players must complete the first chapter of Little Nightmares.
THE LAIR
In order to acquire The Lair achievement, players must complete the second chapter of Little Nightmares.
THE KITCHEN
In order to acquire The Kitchen achievement, players must complete the third chapter of Little Nightmares.
THE GUEST AREA
In order to acquire The Guest achievement, players must complete the fourth chapter of Little Nightmares.
THE LADY’S QUARTERS
In order to acquire The Lady’s Quarters achievement, players must complete the fifth chapter of Little Nightmares.
TACTILE ACHIEVEMENTS
The following achievements may require players to go back into their game if they have not completed them the first time around. Players have a chance at completing these achievements by messing around with the Little Nightmares world, however, in many cases players will have to either be aware that these achievements exist in order to know that they must complete them or will have to look at a guide like this one!
As many of these achievements are bound to specific chapters, players will not need to worry about missing the achievements in their first playthrough and instead can simply jump into the chapters that they need in order to acquire the achievements.
There are only a select few achievements that I would recommend doing linearly as there is unfortunately no way to double check whether or not you have collected all the pieces in order to properly acquire them.
Each of these achievements will state what chapter they are in and a little bit of information of where they can locate the objects required for the hidden achievement.
HIGHLY SPRUNG
In Chapters 1, 2, 3 or 5 players can collect the Highly Sprung achievement which requires players to jump six times on any bed.
Players will have to jump 6 times on the same bed in order to ensure this achievement being unlocked, so take your pick and get to hopping!
SIX’S SONG
In Chapter 2 players will witness a hanging piano that they must jump across in order to get to the next location.
Instead of immediately completing this section of the game, players will want to jump onto the piano keys in order to access this achievement.
Players will have to run back and forth on this piano without falling off and dying.
In many cases the player will have to run over the piano at least 5-6 times, though a true number has not been discovered or released.
Players will have an easier time doing this using a remote instead of a keyboard.
ELUSIVE
In chapter 2, 3 and 4 there will be enemies who try to grab you in order to eat or kill you.
Players will need to make sure that they escape these enemies at least 6 times in order to unlock the Elusive achievement.
As a player is running an enemy will try to grab at you, requiring the player to slide in order to avoid being caught.
Players will note of every time they successfully evade a boss there will be a save icon in the lower right corner of their screen.
Luckily players will not have to evade bosses in succession and can do it throughout their gameplay, so many times players will acquire this achievement without actually trying for it or being aware that it exists.
KITCHEN HAND
Players will have to head to the kitchen in Chapter 3 in order to complete the Kitchen Hand achievement.
The Kitchen Hand achievement is a bit difficult to obtain as it will require a player to run back and forth in the kitchen while the Chef passes through.
Players will need to throw any three ingredients into the cauldron, located in the back of the kitchen, in order to unlock the achievement.
Ingredients can be anything, ranging from food options like carrots, fish heads or even inedible objects like soap.
No matter what a player does, a player must make sure that they are not caught as getting caught will require the player to restart this achievement.
LIGHT UP YOUR LIFE (LANTERN LOCATIONS)
In order to complete the Light Up Your Life achievement, players will need to light at least 20 of the 30 candles or Lanterns located around the Little Nightmares world.
Players will often get this achievement early on in the game as a majority of the Lanterns are located in Chapter 1 and Chapter 2, though this guide will take you through all of the locations if you are a completionist.
There is unfortunately no benefit to lighting all 30 Lanterns, so I would encourage players to ignore the remaining 10 if they do not wish to play through the game too many times.
In order to ignite a Lantern or Candle, players must head close towards the Candle or Lantern and use their lighter. Players may have to adjust their characters a few times in order to properly ignite the Candle or Lantern as some of them have odd hit boxes.
The following are all the locations of the Lanterns and Candles throughout Little Nightmares:
CHAPTER 1
There are 10 Lanterns/Candles players can locate in Chapter 1.
CANDLE/LANTERN #1
The first Lantern can be located in the first room that players find themselves in.
It is located close to the right wall in front of the port/latch players must enter to move on to the next area.
CANDLE/LANTERN #2
Before players open the Fridge, players can head over to the room to the right.
Over here players will locate a Gnome as well as a Lantern that they can light.
In order to pass through the wall, players will have to crouch.
CANDLE/LANTERN #3
After players are swarmed by Leeches they will enter a room that requires them to pull a lever, instead of doing so, players will head to the bottom right of the room where they will see a candle on a black stand.
Players can then progress by pulling the lever.
CANDLE/LANTERN #4
In the room with all of the platforms, players will have the option to jump across a bridge but will want to make sure that they light the lantern that is by the wooden ladder.
Players will locate this area after they fall through the floor.
CANDLE/LANTERN #5
After players climb the rope they will reach an area that has a lantern. Take note that this area is before the electric door.
The Lantern is located to the left side of the sink just as players drop through the Window.
CANDLE/LANTERN #6
While players are in the room that has the “all-seeing eye” which will catch players if they step in the light, players can locate a lantern on their way to climbing up the metal gates.
THe Lantern is located on the left, though players will want to stay in this area before advancing to the next as the next Lantern is nearby.
CANDLE/LANTERN #7
On the right hand side of this room players will have to jump to an area that has a hidden room.
In this room players will find a gnome but will also find Lantern based besides some crates.
CANDLE/LANTERN #8
When players find themselves in the Nursery they can locate a very hidden Lantern between the beds at the top right hand side.
Players will often miss this Lantern as it is very, very well hidden.
CANDLE/LANTERN #9
When players are in the area that has the hanging metal crates, players must head to the back of the L shaped wooden boards in order to light a Lantern.
The Lantern is hidden in plain sight behind the locker in plain sight at the back of the wooden boards.
CANDLE/LANTERN #10
After players permanently cut the electricity they will head into a room that has a locker tied to a rope that players must push down into the hole.
Players will want to ensure that they light the Lantern at the left most side of the room before they complete this section.
CHAPTER 2
There are 10 Lanterns/Candles players can locate in Chapter 2.
CANDLE/LANTERN #11
Upon entering Chapter 2 players will be met with a blue dek that they must climb in order to light a Lantern.
CANDLE/LANTERN #12
After players make it through the elevator, Six will become Hungry. In the tunnel, players will locate a Lantern by one of the pipes that has an on/off valve. This is on the left of the room.
CANDLE/LANTERN #13
Players will be caught by an enemy and placed in a cage. Players will be required to break out of this cage and then will need to head to the left to a hidden room with a Lantern in the top right.
Players can then light this Lantern.
CANDLE/LANTERN #14
Players will reach a room with a bathtub, the Bathtub has a Lantern to the left of the Bathtub.
CANDLE/LANTERN #15
Once players go through the tunnels with the Janitor they will locate a Lantern that is hard to miss.
CANDLE/LANTERN #16
In the room that has the piano hanging from the ceiling, players will have to jump across to a Candle that they can light.
This candle is bare meaning that it looks fairly different than those with a Lantern around it.
CANDLE/LANTERN #17
While players are in the library, players will have to walk around and not be spotted by the Janitor.
This is an exposed lantern on the top shelf to the right that players must jump to climb up to.
Realistically, this is one of the most risky candles to get as players will always risk being caught by the Janitor.
Players can avoid being caught by leading the Janitor to the opposite side of the room by dropping an item on the floor.
CANDLE/LANTERN #18
While still in the library, players will locate a candle on the floor as they run with the crank over to the right side of the room.
Players will want to ensure that they only attempt getting this candle after they’ve turn on the TV and have distracted the Janitor for long enough.
Trying to attempt this candle without a proper distraction.
CANDLE/LANTERN #19
Another Candle related to the piano is only obtainable after players lift the piano and have properly escaped the Janitor.
Right before players head into the vent they can locate a candle to the bottom right of this area.
Although in plain sight it can be easy to miss, simply because of hos small the candle is.
CANDLE/LANTERN #20
Near the end of the chapter players will begin getting attacked by the Janitor through the walls.
Once players have successfully completed this area and are safe, they will locate a Lantern within some pipes.
Players should be able to unlock the Light Up Your Life achievement at this point.
CHAPTER 3
There are 5 Lanterns/Candles players can locate in Chapter 3.
CANDLE/LANTERN #21
When in the kitchen players will be able to locate a Lantern on the right most white shelf.
CANDLE/LANTERN #22
When leaving the kitchen, players will enter a room with two toilets.
In here, players must climb to the top of the toilets and jump onto the shelf to the left in order to light the candle.
CANDLE/LANTERN #23
While players are in the cold storage they must head to the right of the room in order to enter a port that has a hidden lantern.
Truly, this is the only thing players will be able to locate in this room and then must head back to the cold storage room to finish off the puzzle.
CANDLE/LANTERN #24
Players can acquire Candle 24 at different times if need be.
Players will essentially need to climb up onto the shelves to the right to acquire it, however, this may be difficult to do when the Chef is walking around.
Players will be required to climb the crates and barrels on the right hand side of the kitchen and may want to wait until they cause the Chef to disappear forever riht before they have to jump into the trash.
CANDLE/LANTERN #25
While the chefs wash dishes, players will have to climb up some plates and pots located on a shelf in order to obtain the lanter.
The Lantern is located on the left of the window and will require the player to grab a hook in order to get to it.
CHAPTER 4
There are 5 Lanterns/Candles players can locate in Chapter 4.
CANDLE/LANTERN #26
Upon arriving in Chapter 4 players will have to crawl through the hole to the left.
Unfortunately this Lantern seems to be bugged and will only be acquired if players complete the full chapter.
So for those of you simply jumping into Chapter 4, you may have a bit of rage quit moments.
CANDLE/LANTERN #27
While players are in the restaurant looking scene players will locate a bench that has a hole in the wall next to it.
Head into this hole to find a Lantern.
CANDLE/LANTERN #28
In between the table where players must avoid getting caught by enemies, players can locate a candle.
This candle is by far the hardest candle to acquire as it will often get a player caught.
CANDLE/LANTERN #29
After using the Chef’s elevator, players can locate a Lantern at the base of the hallway in front of a dresser/wardrobe.
CANDLE/LANTERN #30
When players escape the guests they will locate a Lantern right before the partitions.
CHAPTER 5
There are no Lanterns of Candles in Chapter 5.
*This guide is currently incomplete, however, I will complete it if players of this game are interested.
