A resource that I have held on to for the years I’ve played Bloons TD 6 is the Insta-Monkeys. Insta-Monkeys are a free resource that allows players to place specific monkey Towers on any map except for C.H.I.M.P.S. or races.
While I have hoarded Insta-Monkeys for years, I have to say that I still don’t utilize them as much as I could, especially as I know I could use them on the maps that completely frustrate me, or the challenges that I couldn’t be bothered to complete “straight forward.”
Since returning to BTD6, after taking a year or so off to focus on playing new video games and game styles I haven’t tried on Twitch I can see myself getting more used to regularly using my Insta-Monkeys, especially as I’ve hoarded so many over the years.
Now, if I’m going to be able to start using Insta-Monkeys regularly, I know that I’m going to want to stockpile even more than the 300 that I’ve already stockpiled on, especially because you will often collect Insta-Monkeys that have upgrades that you’re not a huge fan of.
The following guide will take you through everything you need to know about Insta-Monkeys, the best way to grind them and any odd and end questions that may be hanging about them.
HOW DO OBTAIN INSTA-MONKEYS
There are actually a variety of ways players can obtain Insta-Monkeys, making them pretty easy to farm out. While in the early game, players may not realize just how many ways they can actually access these Insta-Monkeys, especially early on.
Admittedly, some of the ways to collect Insta-Monkeys are going to be easier to obtain Insta-Monkeys are going to be much easier, but the reality is that players will always have access to a chance to win an Insta-Monkey on any map a player plays on.
All the ways to collect Insta-Monkeys are as follows:
Completing Daily Challenges by clicking the Monkey to the right on the home screen. The tier of Insta-Monkey a player will receive will be disclosed.
There will always be at least two Challenges players can participate in, though they are typically a Co-Op daily challenge (which I tend to ignore due to their long times for completion, especially if you have an AFK player or a player on Mobile), the (Easy) Daily Challenge (which provides a lower-tier Insta-Monkey) an Advanced Challenge (which offers at least a mid-tier Insta-Monkey).
One of the most reliant ways of collecting an Insta-Monkey is by reaching Round 100, though this will provide players with a random tier Insta-Monkey. Even though players are not guaranteed a good Insta-Monkey, I would always recommend that a player aim to complete Round 100 as it should be possible no matter what game mode a player plays on.
Players will also be able to receive another Insta-Monkey if they complete another 100 Rounds, meaning that they will get an Insta-Monkey for Round 200, 300, 400, etc. I honestly can’t recommend doing this, even if you have enough Towers to “auto-play” as it tends to lag computers and definitely lag out phones. Even as someone who has a well-built gaming computer, I have to complain about the lag as it’s so much that playing on the regular game speed versus the sped-up version is faster. Bet you didn’t think that could happen. Not only that, even if you have an “auto-play” strategy, completing another map up to level 100 tends to be faster than reaching Round 200 or above.
The following are all the guaranteed Insta-Monkey rarities for completing maps to Round 100:
Beginner Maps provide a player with a Tier 0 to Tier 2 Insta-Monkey
Intermediate Maps provide players with a Tier 1 to Tier 3 Insta-Monkey
Advanced Maps provide players with a Tier 2 to Tier 4 Insta-Monkey
Expert Maps provide players with a Tier 3 to Tier 4 Insta-Monkey
No matter what map difficulty players are playing on they will receive a Tier 3 to Tier 4 Insta-Monkey for completing Round 200 or above. While this is very tempting for me, given the events that take place, I don’t feel the need to grind to Round 200, but if you’re not someone who can participate regularly in Events or simply need to stockpile, this may be for you.
Speaking of Events, players will also have access to events which are normally tied to Holidays including Christmas, Easter, July the 4th, Halloween and many others where players can collect points by completing any maps in order to get between 2-3 Insta-Monkeys for each tier completed. The more maps a player completes, the higher the tier of the Insta-Monkeys available to them.
The nicest thing about Events is that you can also choose which type of Insta-Monkey you get, so you know I’m hoarding those Banana Farms! Though I hoard Banana Farms, you can hoard your favourite type of Tower, including the Super Monkey.
Other events include the Odyssey races as well as the Boss Bloons events which will provide you with different Tier Insta-Monkeys. While they are less reliable and not really farmable, they are still worth completing.
Players can also purchase Insta-Monkeys for 1.99-9.99 USD, though given the number of free ways to obtain Insta-Monkeys, I don’t think this will be necessary for the majority of players.
WHAT TIERS OF INSTA-MONKEYS ARE THERE
There are 5 Tiers of Insta-Monkeys and they are depicted as follows:
White – Tier 1
Green – Tier 2
Blue – Tier 3
Purple – Tier 4
Gold – Tier 5
Tier 5 Insta-Monkeys are the toughest to obtain as there is no way to really farm them out, though players will be able to receive one for getting the fastest time on completing a Race Event. Players can also obtain them very rarely when opening up Diamond Chests during a Collection Event.
CAN YOU CHANGE UPGRADES AN INSTA-MONKEY HAS?
Unfortunately, there is no way to change what upgrades an Insta-Monkey has. Though this is true, players will be able to continue upgrading any Insta-Monkeys in the tiers that already have upgrades in them and if an Insta-Monkey has no upgrades or a single upgrade, they will be able to place their upgrades in any of the paths.
HOW TO UTILIZE AN INSTA-MONKEY
In order to use an Insta-Monkey players will have to be inside of a map and will need to click the yellow lightning bolt at the bottom of their screen. After clicking the Lightning Bolt players will see all of their powers and if they scroll down they will begin seeing their Insta-Monkeys.
Upon clicking the type of Monkey you would like to utilize, a menu will open to the left of this hud allowing you to select which Insta-Monkey you would like to choose. This means that players can choose what exact paths they want to choose.
As players will be collecting a great deal of Insta-Monkeys with less than ideal power-ups, I would recommend using these on lower-tier maps or maps that you know you’re not going to struggle much in. Although less than ideal, players can also use these Towers to make some extra Coin on that map by selling them, though typically it is better to have an extra Tower on the map versus selling the Tower.
It should be noted that players will not be able to use Insta-Monkeys on the C.H.I.M.P.S. game mode as Insta-Monkeys are considered to be powers, which are not allowed on C.H.I.M.P.S.
I typically use Insta-Monkeys for Odyssey challenges or for maps I really don’t want to come up with a strategy on. Insta-Monkeys can be used in two ways: At the beginning of a round when you know what kind of build you want or midway through a round when you’re stressed out and need a helping hand.
I would typically use lower-tier Insta-Monkeys for the beginning of rounds as you should be able to save enough Coin to power them up or will be able to place enough Banana Farms to support them and would save your higher tier Insta-Monkeys for mid-game plays as you are probably strapped on Coin already.
HOW DO YOU GRIND INSTA-MONKEYS QUICKLY?
In my opinion, the best way to grind Insta-Monkeys is to wait for an event as you can hoard a good deal of them very quickly. If you have time to waste or are simply doing another task I would recommend grinding levels that you have already beaten over and over until Round 100.
Although grinding lower-level content is only going to provide you with lower-tier Insta-Monkeys, they can still be very useful for maps where you simply need a bit of a push. The reality is, even if you use a few tower-tier Insta-Monkeys to help you get through a map, you can secure a win, especially on some of the more challenging maps that have moving parts.
If your computer can handle it, I’d say playing a very low difficult map over and over and trying to get to Round 200 and above is a good way to grind, though as I mentioned, my computer struggles with this, even though it is built well.
I truly don’t think that any players need to purchase Insta-Monkeys, though if players are in a position where they can both afford and simply want to buy the Insta-Monkeys, I say go for it.
CONCLUSION
So while there are multiple ways of obtaining Insta-Monkeys, the way a player chooses to do so will be based on how much time they have and what content they enjoy completing.
For me, I tend to wait for Events and stockpile hard by repeating maps whenever I get a chance. As soon as you hit the highest tier of the Collection Challenge you will still be able to grind the challenge and will always be guaranteed the highest Insta-Monkeys available to you.
But I’m curious, what’s your favourite way of grinding Insta-Monkeys? Are you similar or do you need to grind them in another way because of your time/schedule? Which are your favourite Insta-Monkeys to hoard? Let me know in the comments below!
