When it comes to learning the different damage types and stats that are available for players in Genshin Impact it can easily become confusing as the reality is that Genshin Impact has very different names and types of damage in comparison to other RPG MMO games.
While I’m sure that there are other MMOs out there that use Elemental Mastery, Genshin Impact is my first exposure to this stat, especially in the way that it works.
Elemental Mastery is not an attribute that players will want on all of their characters as many of the characters players will be using will want to focus on physical damage or other forms of damage, especially if they do not rely on their elemental abilities to deal damage.
That being said, as players become more skilled with switching between characters in order to deal the most elemental damage, players will want to make sure that their Elemental Mastery stats are on the character that they switch off to as the Elemental Mastery stat will only affect their damage.
WHAT IS ELEMENTAL MASTERY?
Elemental Mastery is considered to be an attribute that increases the amount of damage players are able to deal when Elemental Reactions occur.
Elemental Mastery affects reactions such as Vaporize, Melt, Overloaded, Superconduct, Electro-Charged, Burning, Shattered, Swirl and Crystallize and as mentioned the attribute will only affect the damage of the element that was last applied.
In most cases Elemental Mastery will be able to multiply the damage of an attack, though in the case of Crystalize it will simply provide a more powerful elemental shield.
IS ELEMENTAL MASTERY THE MOST IMPORTANT STAT?
No, Elemental Mastery is by far not the most important stat and in Genshin Impact as it only acts as a multiplier for ELemental Damage and without players also focussing on base damage this stat will do nothing.
Players should focus on building both Attack Damage and Elemental Mastery if they want to scale properly in Genshin Impact.
WHAT IS THE AMOUNT OF DAMAGE GAINED BY ELEMENTAL MASTERY?
Oddly enough the amount of damage players will be able to incur for each elemental reaction is different, meaning that technically some elements are going to be much more powerful than others.
The following are the Elemental Mastery Formulas players will be up against when trying to activate Elemental Reactions.
VAPORIZE AND MELT
2.78 x (Elemental Mastery/Elemental Mastery +1400) x 100%
OVERLOAD, SUPERCONDUCT, ELECTRO-CHARGED, SHATTERED AND SWIRL
6.67 x (Elemental Mastery/Elemental Mastery + 1400) x 100%
CRYSTALIZED
4.44 x (Elemental Mastery/Elemental Mastery+1400) x 100%
HOW TO RAISE ELEMENTAL MASTERY
There are a number of ways that players will be able to increase their Elemental Mastery, though not all ways will be accessible to all players and will depend on what characters you have unlocked.
For example, Lisa and Xiangling will both gain Elemental Mastery when they progress through character ascensions.
There are other characters that will require players to collect certain Constellations in order to have their activatable talents affect other character’s Elemental Mastery.
CHARACTERS THAT RAISE ELEMENTAL MASTERY
The following are the characters that can affect another character’s Elemental Mastery:
ALBEDO
Albedo’s second Passive Talent, Homuncular Nature, provides 125 Elemental Mastery for 10 seconds to all party members.
Players must use Rite of Progeniture: Tectonic Tide in order to raise the Elemental Mastery of nearby Party Members for the 10 seconds.
DIONA
Diona’s sixth Constellation, Cat’s Tail Closing Time, provides 200 Elemental Mastery for 12 seconds to all party members within Signature Mix’s radius but only activates if a party member is under 50% HP.
While difficult to use regularly, players will be able to rely on this Constellation in dire situations.
SUCROSE
Sucrose is actually the only character who can increase a character’s Elemental Mastery in multiple ways.
Sucrose’s first Passive Talent, Catalyst Conversion, provides 50 Elemental Mastery for 8 seconds to all party members with the matching swirled enemy when an enemy is being swirled.
Sucrose’s second Passive Talent, Mollis Favonius, provides 20% of Sucrose’s Elemental Mastery for 8 seconds to all other party members when they activate Sucrose’s Elemental Skill or Elemental Burst.
ARTIFACTS
In many cases the best way to upgrade a character’s Elemental Mastery is by using Artifacts.
While many Artifacts will come with substats that provide Elemental Mastery, there are a couple of Artifacts that will provide players with a base amount of Elemental Mastery without requiring the substats.
These Artifacts are most useful for players who want to focus on Elemental Mastery and will by far provide players with the most Elemental Mastery in tandem with other stats, so players can use their substats for more important stats.
The following are the two Artifacts who’s passives provide players with Elemental Mastery:
INSTRUCTOR
With 2 pieces of Instructor a player will receive 80 Elemental Mastery. This Elemental Mastery is only affects the character that wields the Instructor.
With 4 pieces of Instructor a player will receive 120 Elemental Mastery for 8 seconds everytime there is an Elemental Reaction. It should be noted that all party members will be able to benefit from this passive.
WANDERER’S TROUPE
With 2 pieces of Wanderer’s Troupe players will receive 80 Elemental Mastery. This Elemental Mastery only affects the character that wields the Wanderer’s Troupe.
WEAPONS
All weapons have set Secondary Stats or Passives that a player can utilize in order to upgrade their Elemental Mastery.
Weapons are by far the easiest way to ensure that you get Elemental Mastery and can focus on upgrading a piece of gear that you won’t throw away as there is no RNG that is associated with it and players are guaranteed the stats.
Weapons will also gain more Elemental Mastery as they are upgraded.
The following are the worst to best Weapons that will provide Elemental Mastery.
Take note, just because a Weapon has higher Elemental Mastery it might not be as optimal for a character as there are some passives that will simply make a character more powerful even when the stats don’t seem to be there.

Due to this, players will not always have the added bonus of Elemental Mastery and will have to wait a maximum of 20 seconds before they gain Elemental Mastery again.

The Sacrificial Fragment’s secondary stat provides Elemental Mastery.
The Elemental Mastery will range between 48-221.

THE WIDSITH (4*)
The Widsith’s passive provides Elemental Mastery to players, though unfortunately this is more of an RNG way to get Elemental Mastery.
Essentially players wielding The Widsith will have a chance to receive 3 different songs, though the third song Interlude can provide between 240-480 Elemental Mastery when activated, indicated by an eighth note followed by two sixteenth notes.
Although random, this can be one of the best ways to get Elemental Mastery.
