While playing Genshin Impact, players will have to get used to the many elements that are available to them, both as players as well as the elements that mobs hold that may protect them from certain damage, or cause them to take more damage.
There are 7 elements which are available in Genshin Impact these are:
Pyro
Hydro
Dendro
Electro
Anemo
Cryo
Geo
While all characters come with their own base Element, players will be able to mix their elements with other elements in order to apply different status effects to mobs when they are granted Visions.
ELEMENTS + ELEMENTAL REACTIONS
While players explore the Genshin Impact world they will begin seeing mobs that have symbols above their heads.
The element that corresponds to each mob can be dependant on what kind of mob players are up against, what the current weather is like or whether the mob has been attacked by a player with elemental damage.
Players will want to alternate between different characters in order to manually apply status effects and reactions out of mobs as this will ultimately be the best way to deal damage to mobs as interacting with mobs with different elements will increase the amount of burst damage a player can deal to a mob.
While players are best to focus on elemental reactions between their strongest characters, there are many situations where a player will be able to deal high amounts of damage with a character that isn’t levelled up simply due to the amount of damage it can deal simply by multiplying the already placed status effect.
While players are going to have to rely on Wishes in order to get characters that have the best Elemental Reaction combinations, the free characters have quite a bit of elemental capabilities among each other.
When it comes to combining elements, players need to note that it will matter which element is placed first as it will affect what sort of damage a player deals once the reaction takes place.
When going over the list take note of the damage multiplier and which characters you have that deal more damage.
In most cases it’s going to be better to initiate the damage with a character with lower damage then increase the damage of the stronger character, though this may depend on what characters you have and their substats.
The following are the Elements and the reactions they can cause:
PYRO
The following are all of the reactions that can be dealt when using a Pyro character against the following elements.
Note that these effects take place when a player applies Pyro to the stated element, meaning that a player will have to apply the initial element on before they trigger the Elemental Reaction.
HYDRO + PYRO
When a player attacks a Hydro mob with a Pyro attack the character will activate Vaporize.
Vaporize deals 1.5x Pyro Damage when the Pyro attack successfully activates the reaction.
DENDRO + PYRO
When a player attacks a Dendro mob with a Pyro attack the character will activate Burning.
Burning deals Pyro damage over time and will spread if there is grass around the area as this is considered a Dendro object.
ELECTRO + PYRO
When a player attacks a Electro mob with a Pyro attack the character will activate Overloaded.
Overloaded causes all Pyro damage to become an AoE explosion, though it does not deal more damage.
CYRO + PYRO
When a player attacks a Cryo mob with a Pyro attack the character will activate Melt.
Melt deals 2x the Pyro damage when the Pyro attack successfully activates the reaction.
HYDRO
The following are all of the reactions that can be dealt when using a Hydro character against the following elements.
Note that these effects take place when a player applies Hydro to the stated element, meaning that a player will have to apply the initial element on before they trigger the Elemental Reaction.
PYRO + HYDRO
When a player attacks a Pyro Mob with a Hydro attack the character will activate Vaporize.
Vaporize deals 2x Hydro damage when a Hydro attack successfully activates the reaction.
ELECTRO + HYDRO
When a player attacks an Electro Mob with a Hydro attack the character will activate Electro-Charged.
Electro-Charged causes Electro damage over time until the effect wears off.
Players will also be able to interrupt every the mob’s action every tick also creating a lightning bolt that jumps to a single nearby wet target, also dealing Electro damage.
CRYO + HYDRO
When a player attacks a Cryo Mob with a Hydro attack the character will activate Frozen.
Frozen allows players to then perform Shattered if they use a Claymore, a Sword Plunge Attack or Geo Damage (excluding a Geo Catalyst’s plunge).
If players Shatter a frozen target, they will deal additional Physical damage.
DENDRO
The following is the only interaction Dendro has with other elements. This may seem shocking, however, there is only one Dendro character and it will not be used often.
Note that this effect only takes place when a player applies Dendro to Pyro, meaning that the player must apply Pyro before they trigger this Elemental Reaction.
PYRO + DENDRO
When a player attacks a Pyro Mob with a Dendro attack the character will activate Burning.
Burning deals Pyro Damage over time and will spread the burn effect around, meaning that if a player is standing on grass the grass will also ignite as it is considered Dendro.
ELECTRO
The following are all of the reactions that can be dealt when using a Electro character against the following elements.
Note that these effects take place when a player applies Electro to the stated element, meaning that a player will have to apply the initial element on before they trigger the Elemental Reaction.
PYRO + ELECTRO
When a player attacks a Pyro Mob with an Electro attack the character will activate Overloaded.
Overloaded deals AoE Pyro damage that causes an explosion which classifies as a Heavy Attack.
HYDRO + ELECTRO
When a player attacks a Hydro Mob with an Electro attack the character will activate Electro-Charged.
Electro-Charged causes Electro damage over time until the effect wears off.
Players will also be able to interrupt every the mob’s action every tick also creating a lightning bolt that jumps to a single nearby wet target, also dealing Electro damage.
CRYO + ELECTRO
When a player attacks a Cryo Mob with an Electro attack the character will activate Superconduct.
Super conduct will deal AoE Cryo damage and will also reduce the enemy’s Physical Damage resistance by around 40% for 12 seconds.
Players can use Superconduct reactions to deal massive damage since players will be able to use it’s AoE to multiply the amount of damage to happen to mobs.
Essentially this means that if there are 3 mobs affected by Superconduct reactions they will take damage 3 times.
ANEMO
Anemo reacts very differently than most other Elements as instead of applying a new status effect to the mob it will Swirl.
Swirl essentially means that it infuses with the element and deals that elemental damage while spreading the effect to all nearby enemies.
It should be noted that no Anemo damage will be dealt and only one element can be infused with Anemo.
Players can only cause Swirl with the following elements:
Pyro
Hydro
Electro
Cryo
CRYO
The following are all of the reactions that can be dealt when using a Cryo character against the following elements.
Note that these effects take place when a player applies Cryo to the stated element, meaning that a player will have to apply the initial element on before they trigger the Elemental Reaction.
PYRO + CRYO
When players attack a Pyro Mob with a Cryo attack the character will activate Melt.
Melt causes players to deal 1.5x Cryo damage when a Cryo attack successfully activates the reaction.
HYDRO + CRYO
When a player attacks a Hydro Mob with a Cryo attack the character will activate Frozen.
Frozen allows players to then perform Shattered if they use a Claymore, a Sword Plunge Attack or Geo Damage (excluding a Geo Catalyst’s plunge).
If players Shatter a frozen target, they will deal additional Physical damage.
ELECTRO + CRYO
When a player attacks a Electro Mob with an Cryo attack the character will activate Superconduct.
GEO
Geo works fairly similar to Anemo, meaning that instead of applying it’s own status it will instead absorb the element that a mob already has and will drop a crystal of the same element.
If players pick up the crystal they will gain a shield that absorbs all types of damage, though they will gain extra protection regarding to the element that the Geo character absorbed.
