Water Boatman | Grounded Guide

Last Updated March 24, 2022 By Johnny Salib / FlamingGaymer Leave a Comment

When it comes to playing Grounded, there are a good amount of mobs that don’t receive as much love. Though many of the mobs don’t requite players to farm them regularly, it seems like the mobs that don’t need consistent farming tend to (though not always) provide extremely important upgrades for the player until they have completed the task required is complete.

By now, I’m sure you’ve put two and two together, recognizing that the Water Boatman isn’t a mob that you will need to farm regularly, though players will absolutely need to kill a number of them in order to complete aspects of the game, including locating a few BURG.L Chips.

Water Boatman are quite easy to kill, though the main struggle with killing them is the fact that they are so low under water, meaning that players will be at risk of drowning. The funny thing about this is that players will need Water Boatman in order to successfully swim underwater with no problems, meaning that players will either need to find ways of extending their breath time or be very speedy when killing these creatures.

The following guide will take you through everything you need to know about the Water Boatman, including where they are located, the best Weapons to use against them and the resources players can acquire when they use the resources they drop.

WHERE ARE WATER BOATMAN?

The Water Boatman are typically found around the edges of the pond in the “shallow depths.” While this area is called the Shallow Depths, players should be aware that they still have a chance to drown here, meaning that players will still need to be a bit speedy while attacking them.

Admittedly, if players are patient they can also see a Water Boatman surface to flip on it’s back to get some air, meaning that players can strike these creatures extremely safely without any repercussions. Players will have to be fairly lucky if they hope to farm all of the Water Boatman this way, though it is not impossible.

HOW DO YOU KILL A WATER BOATMAN?

As Water Boatman are water creatures players will only be able to kill it using certain weapons, these include the Following:

Bone Daggers

Pebblet Daggers

Spider Fang Daggers

Players should not find any difficulty killing the Water Boatman as they are a passive creature that will not fight back, so the strength of the Weapon is not the most important in this situation. With that in mind, know that the Water Boatman will try to flee once struck, so you will need to make sure that you have enough stamina to catch it or have it cornered in a good manner.

Players will want to make sure that the Water Boatman is always moving slowly or not moving at all before they begin striking them as this will raise the chances of successfully killing one.

WHAT LOOT DOES THE WATER BOATMAN DROP?

Admittedly, the Water Boatman doesn’t drop much loot, only providing players with a single Water Boatman Fin each time one is killed.

Players will need the Water Boatman Fin for a few resources that will improve swimming. These include the following:

FIN FLOPS

Fin Flops are by far the most important thing to use Water Boatman Fins on as they provide players with the most Swimming Speed and can be used for long durations. If you’re debating between what to spend your Water Boatman Fins on, I strongly recommend this first.

Admittedly, it is one of the more costly things to craft out of the other resources that can be crafted using the Water Boatman Fins.

BOATMAN FIN SOUP

Boatman Fin Soup is a Meal that I’m not the biggest fan of, simply because I don’t need it. Essentially it will also provide the player with Swim Speed, but requires an Oven to cook.

The Boatman Fin Soup is one of the more expensive ways of getting Swim Speed and while it’s a substantial Meal, I prefer using the Fluid Flippers Smoothie as it can also heal a player. The choice is up to you though.

FLUID FLIPPERS

Fluid Flippers is one of the best Smoothies to have, especially when you are exploring dangerous areas under water. While players will get Swim Speed, players can use these Smoothies to heal themselves after they take damage.

For me, this is a major perk, especially as underwater players will not be able to use the strongest Weapons. There are many situations where a player will get hit repeatedly by mobs so even if you’ve already got your Swim Speed up with one, you shouldn’t worry about drinking another if you need some healing.

The Fluid Flippers are also relatively inexpensive, only requiring one Water Boatman Fin, so if you can stockpile on them, I would recommend it. Honestly… even if you use them to heal on land, although not the most optimal.

The reality is that you will not be spending the most amount of time underwater and as soon as you have all the Gear for Swimming you will not need to rely on Meals or Smoothies to keep you alive, especially if you have the Merteen Mutation.
