LostWinds is a Frontier game that is available on the Nintendo Wii, through Steam and iOS.
LostWinds is a story-based role-playing game that follows the main character Toku.
The following is a step-by-step walkthrough that will take players through the entirety of LostWinds. Please note that this guide will include spoilers, though I will not go in-depth with the story so you can enjoy it yourself.
In an effort to not spoil the game, I will not be referring to areas of the map by their name until the name is revealed in the storyline or made known when using a map.
This guide will also take players through all of the locations of the hidden collectables, Melodia Idols, so they can receive a 100% clear.
In this game, a single Melodia Idol can be found in every area of the map. Players will not always be able to collect the Melodia Idol right away and thus may have to revisit an area if they want to get a 100% complete.
There are 24 Melodia Idols in total and they have no effect on gameplay and thus will not gate players who are only interested in playing the game for its story.
This guide will take you through the most optimal run that will help you get these Melodia Idols immediately so you don’t have to circle back.
A COMPLETE WALKTHROUGH OF LOSTWINDS
STARTING THE GAME & HOW TO INTERACT WITH NPCs AND OBJECTS IN LOSTWINDS
Upon creating a new game file of LostWinds players will have to swipe across Toku, who will be sleeping.
While swiping across Toku, players must press their finger on their screen, click A on their Wii Remote or hold down their left-click button to cause a breeze, which will wake Toku wake up. I will be referring to this button (or action) as your action key.
Players will have to move to the right of their screen into the next area. Upon entering the area to the right players will fall into the caves below, needing to continue moving to the right, where they will stand in front of a waterfall.
Once players are in front of the waterfall players will find the Wind Spirit, Enril, who acts as the narrator in LostWinds.
To interact with the WindSpirit players must highlight the symbol that appears when they area nearby. Depending on what console you are playing on players may have a bit of difficulty interacting with the WindSpirit, however, my best advice is to always click directly on the symbol while trying to interact with something.
INTERACT WITH THE WINDSPIRIT – [ENRIL’S FIRST EMPOWERMENT] – GUST & HOW TO USE IT
Upon listening to the initial story of the LostWinds world players will unlock their first ability Gust.
Gust will allow players to be lifted when holding down their action key and swiping the Wind Spirit across their screen.
While players may only be able to lift themselves once with Gust, players will be able to move horizontally seemingly indefinitely by swiping to the side.
Players will be made aware of how many actions they have left by the glow of their cursor, though on iOS there is no distinguishable way to tell.
Upon learning Gust, players should continue moving to the right of their screen until they are met by a piece of Fruit that is dangling from a string.
TIP #1 – FRUITS, HEALTH & HEALING. HOW DO YOU HEAL IN LOSTWINDS?
Although it’s going to take you a bit of time to begin getting attacked, it’s important to note the methods of healing early on so you’re not stuck in a terrifying situation.
Fruits are scattered around the world in various forms, though players will always receive the same healing no matter what form the fruit takes.
Players have a maximum of 4 Hearts and unlike other games, if players take any damage from their last heart they will immediately die.
Upon dying, players will respawn at the entrance of the area they are currently in. Players will always respawn at full health, though if players shouldn’t have too much difficulty healing as exciting and re-enter an area to respawn the Fruit, though Mobs will also respawn.
CLIMB TO THE TOP OF THE HILL
To continue making your way through the LostWind world, players must Gust themselves up a series of steps located to the right of their screen.
At this point, players can only Gust themselves up once at a time and will need to land before continuing their way up the different tiers.
Move your way up through the right-hand side up two steps, then make your way left over the gap. You will not be able to go further to the right as this is a blocked off area for the future.
As you continue to make your way left, continue jumping to the left over the gaps until you have reached an area where there is a “flower” or a Poyak on the floor.
USE THE POYAK AND CONTINUE MOVING TO THE TOP
Poyaks are plants that provide players with the ability to shoot up higher than they would with access to one Gust current.
Players must stand on a Poyak to become swallowed by said Poyak and once they are ready they can use a Gust current on it to spit Toku into the air. I personally prefer to swipe from down to up, though players can swipe the Poyak in any direction as long as they are holding down their action key and swiping directly across the Poyak in some manner.
Upon coming out of the Poyak, make sure you go to the left and continue making your way to the top of the map.
You may have some difficulty jumping from one platform to another, especially because you are limited to one Gust current at a time. I recommend using Gust straight up in the air and then swiping left or right based on what direction you are going to go.
If you swipe quickly under Toku he should be able to stay afloat for a little bit of time.
At this stage of the game, you’re going to want to follow the small platforms, jumping all the way to the right and then jumping across to the left until the player is met with some mushrooms and shrubbery which are placed in front of an opening in the cave.
JUMP DOWN THE HOLE AND ENTER THE AREA BELOW
The most beautiful part of playing LostWinds is the fact that players will never take any fall damage, no matter how far they fall from.
Upon jumping down players will be met by a hanging piece of fruit and a Melodia Idol to the right of them. Note that the Melodia Idol is located on a wall that is too high for players to get up to and thus players should begin heading to the left of their screen. Enter the door to the left.
ACTIVATE THE SHRINE – [ENRIL’S SECOND EMPOWERMENT] – UNLOCK TWO GUST CURRENTS
Upon entering this area of the world players will be met by a Shrine with a wind symbol on it and a weighted platform in front of it.
Players will need to familiarize themselves with said Shines as they are the source of the majority of the abilities Toku will learn along his journey.
Head to the left and stand on the platform to reveal a wind turbine. Use your action button to blow on the wind turbine to activate the Shrine.
Spinning the turbine will allow you to use two Gust currents while maneuvering Toku.
THE FIRST MELODIA IDOL
Players can continue making their way to the left to collect their first Melodia Idol.
To reach the Melodia Idol players will need to use two Gust currents and players will be able to exit this area of the map.
THE SECOND MELODIA IDOL
I promise you that collecting Melodia Idols is a pretty fun task and that you’re not going to be handed Melodia Idols left, right and center, but you don’t have to look very far to get the second Melodia Idol as the one I mentioned earlier is now accessible.
Head to the right and use two Gust currents to take you over the wall and continue moving to the right of the screen.
Continue going right past the Poyak back to the waterfall where you will be met by Glorbs.
TIP #2 – WHAT ARE GLORBS AND HOW DO I KILL THEM FAST?
Glorbs are a frustrating Mob that will latch onto players, sucking their health until they die.
Players must use Gust currents rapidly to take a Glorb off of them. I recommend removing Glorbs with swift long motions as that seems to have the best success, though players may experience differences based on their devices.
To kill a Glorb, players must push the Glorb quickly onto a surface or into a rock.
If you can, try not to let the Glorb dangle in the air for too long as that may reduce the chance of being able to kill it fast as it may float down and latch onto you, which is a no beuno.
HEAD RIGHT OF THE WATERFALL & WATER THE LITTLE SAPLING
Once you have killed the Glorbs collect the fruit if you need to, or continue heading to the right of the screen.
You will be met with a wall that needs two Gust currents to get up. Go up the wall until you are met by a little sapling that needs to be watered.
To water the sapling, players can use their interact key and swipe onto the plant. Players will not have to water the flowers little sapling directly and can let the waterfall onto the little sapling instead.
Once the little sapling is watered it will become a big healthy Poyak, which players will need to take to enter the next area.
If players choose to continue to the right (using two Gust currents) players will be met by vines that block off the area to the right. At this time, players will not be able to go to said area.
TAKE THE POYAK UP AND CONTINUE GOING RIGHT FROM ABOVE
After players take the Poyak up a level, players should continue to climb the platforms, coming across a variety of Glorbs they must kill.
Kil the Glorbs as needed and make the jump across the platforms, exiting this area using a door to the right. The door/area exit will be next to a lit torch.
THE THIRD MELODIA IDOL
Upon entering this new space, depicted by waterfalls, large cliff/ledges, a river and to the right many cherry blossoms with villagers, players will have access to the third Melodia Idol.
Make your way to the center of the map where a villager wearing a similar outfit to Toku stands in front of their house. To the left of the NPC villager is a cherry blossom that contains a nest. Use to Gust currents to successfully land on this nest.
Once players are on the nest, they will need to continue travelling right, jumping from nest to nest until you reach a Poyak.
Take the Poyak up and give yourself a nice Gust current to the right where you will find the third Melodia Idol.
Players who are having a difficult time using only two Gust currents to get to the top of this area can wait until later on in the game to collect this Melodia Idol as this current area will be visited again.
HEAD RIGHT INTO THE NEXT AREA
Whether or not players collect the third Melodia Idol, players will have to head to the area to the right, which will not require players to jump onto the nests.
Instead, players can simply run across this part of the field until they are met with a series of stairs they must run/climb up.
MELODIA STATUES [HOW TO SAVE IN LOSTWINDS]
Upon entering the newest area in LostWinds, players will be met with a Melodia Statue, which looks similar to the Idol, however, Melodia Statues appear to be double to triple the size of a Melodia Idol and are yellowish static structures.
Players will be taken through a prompt that explains that as players cross said Melodia Statues they will save the game. Players will not have to use a Gust current to activate said Melodia Statues, however, even if you are confident in your ability to stay alive, I would recommend activating Melodia Statues as you see them to always keep your game file up to date.
I have to admit that there have been a few times I’ve forgotten to save, which ended up in me having to backtrack and collect a few Melodia Idols again. While it can be fun to complete certain areas of the map again, it is a bit of a frustrating aspect of the game that it doesn’t just “auto-save.” (In saying that, I’m aware I’m not a developer and don’t fully understand how the saving part of programming/coding works.
After interacting with the Melodia Statue continue heading right until you meet an old man in blue. He is a face you will want to remember and from this point onward we will refer to him as Deo.
Head right into the next area.
JUMP TO THE VERY TOP OF THE MOUNTAIN TO THE WINDMILL
At this point in the game, players can either explore the area to speak to multiple villagers or can quickly head to the top of the mountain to continue to progress the story.
The fastest way to get to where you need to be is by running up the stairs to the right of the villager with her baby, double gust onto the thin platform, continuing to head right until the players are met by a sweeping villager in yellow.
As soon as players see the sweeping villager they should bounce left onto the grassy platform, with the swaying red villager and green villager behind her, and then back up to the right all the way up to the second Melodia Statue, where the game will save your progress.
On this platform, players will see an NPC in a top hat. Speak to the NPC to progress the story and receive instruction as to what to do next.
UNLOCKING & HOW TO USE THE MAP IN LOSTWINDS
Upon completing your conversation with the top-hatted NPC, players will gain access to the map of LostWinds.
The LostWinds map can be accessed by clicking the pause button on the top-left of the screen or by clicking the back button on the console or Esc on PC. The map will reveal all the areas players have explored in the LostWinds world.
The map will also show hints as to where the areas you’ve explored can lead to and whether there are entrances/exits you haven’t visited yet. Players will be able to tell they haven’t explored a nearby area by a path that leads to no circle, though players can also safely assume how many more areas they need to explore from the shadows provided on the map.
If players are unsure where they need to head to next they will now be able to open the map and receive a prompt that is displayed with a question mark (?). Although the prompt does not directly tell you how to get to the area since there are often multiple entrances to the same place, players will at least know what direction they need to start heading in if they want to continue completing the storyline.
If there is no question mark on the map, players may have to unlock directions from another NPC or the area you should be visiting will glow orange.
Please Note: From this point onward I will be referring to locations by their proper names as location names will appear on the map.
HEAD TOWARDS THE FIRST QUESTION MARK
Begin heading west towards the question mark that can be found at the top left of the map. Players will have to move past Deo’s House and go through The Meadows, Blossom Path then through Blossom Grove.
Players will have to take the lower path to get to Blossom Path, which is indicated by the lines on the map. Although players will not be able to tell for certain if they are on the top or bottom path, as neither glow, players should safely assume they are heading the right way while double-checking their map regularly or upon exiting or entering an area.
In this situation, players can run past the river and rock formation, remaining on the very bottom of the map and entering the bottom cavern. Players can confirm that they have taken the right cave entrance if they see a villager with a pointy blue hat and orange robe as they enter the next area.
Players will recognize this area as the second area they visited while playing the game, though the entrance would have been blocked by a gate.
Jump over the space between the ledges and keep heading west.
TAKE THE HIGH PATH TO THE QUESTION MARK
Once players are in the Blossom Grove they will have the option of taking two paths, the high path and the lower path. The lower path will be blocked off by a vine gate, making it impossible to enter the area behind it.
Don’t fret though, once you make it to the vine gate (which is to the far left of the screen), players can jump up the mossy tree platforms, which are located on the cherry blossom to the right.
Jump up the platforms until you are almost all the way to the right where you will be met by another vine door. Above this vine door will be a Melodia Idol, though players will not be able to interact with it yet. Keep this in mind.
Begin heading west, jumping on the platform that is slightly higher than the platform below the vine door. Keep jumping up the platforms until you are met by another cave door.
To confirm that you are in the correct area you will enter a place with a plethora of plants and flowers, another waterfall, and a new form of Glorb that can fly. Flying Glorbs will need to take more aggressive hits in order to be destroyed and thus players may find a more difficult time trying to manage them.
The reality is, I ignore the majority of flying Glorbs as players will not need to defeat all enemies on screen unless they latch onto you, which flying Glorbs don’t tend to do. It seems like one of the easiest ways to kill these mobs is to Gust them up and down with short, but quick movements, though the motions may vary from device to device.
Continue heading to the west where you will enter an area called “Wither Falls West” which you will need to continue travelling west.
PLACE THE BOULDER ON THE WEIGHTED PAD
From this point on LostWinds is going to become a little bit more complicated, incorporating external elements in order to manipulate the map to continue progressing.
The first boulder players will locate is very close to the pad players need to place it on. Players can either lightly roll the boulder or can lift it by using a Gust current.
Boulders are shockingly light and depending on how many Gust current players have, players should be able to move boulders any which way they desire on the map. In the case of this puzzle, players may drop the boulder onto the platform below and players will need to lift the boulder onto the platform on the left and then can bring it back onto the floating platform with the weighted pad.
Upon an object being placed onto the weighted pad a door to the left will open. Players will have to Gust themselves into this door and into the next area.
THE FOURTH MELODIA IDOL – WITHER FALLS WEST
Upon entering the next area players will be greeted by another Boulder, a Melodia Idol behind a closed door and a Poyak plant. Take the Poyak plant and Gust yourself to the left where you will see a “lever” you can interact with that opens the door below.
Players may appear to be trapped in this area, however, they can take the Poyak plant and can Gust themselves to the right where the weighted pad is located.
CONTINUE HEADING EAST BUT STAY IN WITHER FALLS WEST
Upon collecting the fourth Melodia Idol, players can begin heading east again, though players should remain in Wither Falls West as there is an area that can now be accessed in this area.
Below the right-hand entrance of Wither Falls West is a vine gate as well as a torch. Head in this direction with one of the two boulders found in this area.
If players have lost the boulder that was used to weigh down the weighted pad, players can use the Poyak plant to shoot the second boulder over the wall as they would themselves. As mentioned earlier, players shouldn’t have too much difficulty maneuvering and manipulating the boulder as boulder physics doesn’t follow the same physics as Toku.
When players reach the vine gate they can use the torch to ignite the gate by using a Gust current. It may take a few tries to get it right, but the best way for me to describe it is by making long strokes and engaging the action key when the flame begins to dissipate. As is with most other instructions, the fluidity of this action may depend on the system you are playing on.
Once players have fallen through the hole left from the vine gate, players should head west. Players may be tempted to try to burn down the vine gate to the right of the Poyak plant, however, they will not be able to do so yet.
EXIT WITHER FALLS WEST AND ENTER SLIPSTREAM SHRINE
Players can now use the boulder to weigh down the pad to the left of the Poyak plant, which will open up the door to the next area Slipstream Shrine.
Players may notice a new type of gate preventing them from crossing, however, players can quickly cause the gate to disappear by using a Gust current on them. Players cannot be damaged by this type of plant, though they also will not be able to jump above them.
ACTIVATE THE SHRINE – [ENRIL’S THIRD EMPOWERMENT] – SLIPSTREAM
The Slipstream Shrine works exactly as the shrine before and will require Toku to stand on the weighted pad. Upon stepping on the pad players will cause a turbine to appear, allowing them to use a Gust current to activate the shrine.
Upon activation, players will unlock Slipstream which allows players to use a Gust current for longer.
Head to the left of the screen and use two Gust currents to get you up to a platform where players can find a Helibud and a torch. Use Slipstream to burn down the vine door using a torch.
THE FIFTH MELODIA IDOL – SLIPSTREAM SHRINE
Players should interact with the Helibud and walk to the edge of the ledge with it. Use a Slipstream to carry you up into the space in the roof.
Maneuvering the Helibud may prove to be a difficult task, but I recommend trying to lift yourself in one quick Gust current instead of bursts. It will take you a few tries at first, but Slipstreaming will feel like your new norm soon.
If players hit a wall or the floor with a Helibud the Helibud will break. Carefully try to center yourself before speeding up into the roof.
Once you are up on the ledge, push yourself against the vine gate to reveal a torch.
Slipstream the fire onto the vine gate and burn that sucker down! Enjoy the Melodia Idol.
HOW TO EXIT THE SLIPSTREAM SHRINE
Exiting the Slipstream Shrine proves to be more difficult than someone would imagine, but some methods prove to be easier than others.
Take the Helibud and allow Toku to jump off the edge of the first platform simply by walking him off of the platform.
When you reach the shrine, use Slipstream to carry you to the exit of the area.
HEAD EAST TO THE VINE GATE PREVIOUSLY MENTIONED IN WITHER FALLS WEST
Once players make it to the vine gate located in the southeast corner of the area, players will notice a new form of Glorb.
These Glorbs will spawn regularly and can only be destroyed by placing Slipstreaming fire onto them and then interacting with them to pull them out of the ground.
Players do not have to remove these Glorbs, however, Glorbs of this type do get annoying if you’re having difficulty burning down the vine gate and become especially annoying in areas you will visit later.
Once players burn the vine gate down they can head down the path into the next location.
ENTER FORGOTTEN CHAMBERS
Once players are in Forgotten Chambers they will be met by a torch and another vine gate. Do as you have already done and burn down the vine gate by using Slipstream.
Players can continue moving east avoiding all enemies until they reach a plantless pile of dirt, a lit torch, an unlit torch and a vine gate.
Use Slipstream Shrine to move the fire from the left torch to the right torch and burn down the vine gate.
Once you enter the next area you will be given the prompt that lighting plants on fire will cause them to drop their seeds. As you may have guessed, this prompt is letting you know what it is you need to do.
Upon entering the room you will see a Poyak plant as well as an unlit torch. Use the Poyak plant to Gust yourself to a torch located at the top of the room. Swiftly Slipstream the torch to light the bottom torch and pick up the Poyak seed and walk to the pile of empty dirt.
Stand on the pile of dirt to receive the prompt to plant the seed and then use a Gust current from the waterfall to the left to water the Poyak and make it regrow.
Et voilà! There you have it! Quite possibly my favourite little piece of the game, for some reason!
TAKE THE POYAK UP THE WALL
Use the Poyak to gust Toku up the cave wall and continue travelling to the east of the cave. Continue to walk until you jump off the cliff, though you’re not going to want to head too far down.
Players will be met by an unlit torch with a lit torch not too far beneath, to the right of it. Use the torch on the right to ignite the left torch and continue to light torches all the way to the top of the puzzle.
There is nothing else you will need to do in this area for now. Although, you may notice a Melodia Idol at the bottom of this area behind a gate. Unfortunately, players will not be able to access this Melodia Idol yet.
HEAD OUT OF THE FORGOTTEN CHAMBER INTO BLOSSOM GROVE
When you exit the Forgotten Chamber you will be greeted by an area you may recognize as you are greeted by the vine gate that once forced you to visit Wither Falls.
Use the torch to burn down the vine gate and continue heading east, saving your game with a Melodia Statue.
Use the cherry blossoms to jump up to a cave all the way on the right. You will know you are in the right place when you are met by a vine gate and a lit torch. Use the lit torch to burn the vine gate.
Take note, the Melodia Idol is next to the torch, but players will not be able to access it at this point of the game. Sorry for those of you who didn’t see it and just got a “spoiler”… but you are on a complete walkthrough 😉
Head out of Blossom Grove into Blossom Path.
THE SIXTH MELODIA IDOL – BLOSSOM PATH
Upon entering Blossom Path you will be met by a Helibud which you can use to fly yourself all the way to the other side of the map and BAM there a Melodia Idol.
After completing that you can keep heading all the way to Hilltop Village.
GET TO THE TOP NEXT TO THE WINDMILL IN HILLTOP VILLAGE
You’re going to want to make your way to the very top of the map to speak to the orange hatted villager who is currently sweeping in front of the windmill. He will let you know that there is a new discovery.
Continue heading east and remain as high as you can on the platforms until you see another Helibud.
THE SEVENTH MELODIA IDOL – HILLTOP VILLAGE
Use the Helibud to take you northeast where you will find another Melodia Idol.
Then continue heading to the east, using a cave that is directly to the right of where you currently are.
EXIT HILLTOP VILLAGE AND ENTER CLIFFSIDE VILLAGE
Upon entering Cliffside Village players will have to burn down a vine gate that is laid on the ground.
Hop down onto the platform directly under and burn down the vine gate found on the platform below, continuing to head to the east.
THE EIGHTH MELODIA IDOL – CLIFFSIDE VILLAGE
Shockingly the eighth Melodia Idol isn’t too far off from the entrance as players will only need to make it to the top of the map and head to the west.
Collect the Melodia Idol then continue by heading to the east.
HEAD DOWN THE WINDMILL AND GO WEST
Players can either head down the Windmill to get where they need to go early or can explore the east side of the area and then head down to the west of the map.
Either way, you choose to go, you will need to walk west until you are met by a villager in an orange hat with children playing on a surface opposite to him.
Head down the path between these NPCs and activate the Melodia Statue.
Here you will see a lit torch, a campfire and an unlit torch.
Use the lit torch to light the unlit torch and the campfire. It doesn’t matter what order you light them in, however, the door will not open unless you light both of them.
EXIT CLIFFSIDE VILLAGE AND ENTER THE SECRET PATH
Once you enter the Secret Path continue heading the east and drop down, ignoring the mushrooms.
THE NINTH MELODIA IDOL – THE SECRET PATH
Players will find the ninth Melodia Idol tucked in between the bottom mushroom and the wall. Easy peasy!
As players make their way down they will need to locate a boulder, bringing it along with them.
Use the boulder to weigh down the weighted pad and exit the Secret Path.
ENTER THE CHAMBER OF MEMORIES & OPEN THE FIRST MEMORY CHEST
Entering the Chamber of Memories will provide players with extra storyline.
Players will locate three torches in the middle of the Chamber of Memories.
Use the lit torch to light the unlit torches and a chest will appear.
Interact with the chest and then use a Gust current to open it to progress the story.
THE TENTH MELODIA IDOL – THE CHAMBER OF MEMORIES
Upon progressing the story head west and collect the tenth Melodia Idol.
HEAD OUT OF THE CHAMBER OF MEMORIES AND HEAD TO DEO’S HOME
At this point, players will want to use the mushrooms to get out of the Secret Path and continue out into Cliffside Village.
Once players are in Cliffside Village they will take the cave exit located next to the children mentioned prior.
This cave exit is in the west.
Continue heading west until you are at Deo’s Home.
Progress the story by speaking to Deo.
HEAD TO THE LOST CAVERN
Once you are done begin heading west to the Lost Cavern.
To get to the Lost Cavern players must take the upper path of The Meadows, which can be achieved by jumping on the rock formations found next to the blossom trees.
Continue to use Gust currents until you have reached the cave entrance in the west.
Once you are at the Lost Cavern use the torch to the left of you to ignite the vine gate found directly below. Due to the way that the game is programmed, players may run into some camera issues, however, using a few Gust currents to modify the camera angle will give you the framing you need.
HEAD INTO THE OLD MINES
Once you are in the Old Mines, begin heading to the east where you will be met by a ring pull latch you can pull on.
Interact with the ring pull latch and use a Gust current to carry you up, opening up the area to the right of players.
Drop down the newly opened trap door and head west to the vine gate. Use the torch to ignite the vine gate and continue heading west until you reach a torch above an open dropdown.
To the left of the torch is a weighted pad that will require a boulder, so head down the shaft instead.
Shortly after heading down, you will notice a boulder to the right of you, a Melodia Statue, as well as a door with a blue stone embedded.
Ignore the door and instead take the boulder to the west and place it on the weighted pad. Leave the boulder on the weighted pad and enter the Vortex Shrine.
ACTIVATE THE VORTEX SHRINE – [ENRIL’S FOURTH EMPOWERMENT] – VORTEX
Upon entering the Vortex Shrine players will be required to interact with the shrine by stepping on the weighted pressure pad and using a Gust current on the shrine, as they have done prior.
Upon activating the shrine players will be given the power to create a Vortex.
Players can create a Vortex by throwing an object into the air and drawing a circle while holding B on the Wii, same though with right-click on a PC and players will have to pinch their fingers together on the iOS (alternative action button).
There are a few reasons why players will want to cause a Vortex, though for spoiler’s sake I will cover those as they come up.
Continue heading west where you will be met by a Wind Stone. Drag the Wind Stone towards the blue crystal, lift it in the air and use your alternative action button to initiate the Vortex.
Allow the Wind Stone to spin and play until it shatters the crystal and enjoy your new skill!
EXIT THE VORTEX SHRINE AND ENTER THE OLD MINES WEST
Upon exiting the Vortex Shrine, players will be met by a new form of Glorb which I will refer to as the armoured Glorb.
Armoured Glorbs are fairly difficult to defeat, however, I’ve learned that if you use a Vortex on the, and quickly smack them into the ground they almost always shatter.
As is with all actions on this game, players may have a different experience based on the type of controller, console, etc.
Continue heading to the west until you are met with a boulder and a dead end. Fear not, because you can use that boulder to break the floor beneath Toku.
Take the boulder and throw it into the air. Once in the air use Vortex on the boulder and smash floor slightly to the right of the yellow mushroom.
Drop down the shaft, bringing the boulder along with you.
THE ELEVENTH MELODIA IDOL – OLD MINES WEST
Players will probably bump into the eleventh Melodia Idol by mistake, but it is located on your way towards the exit of Old Mines West by two flying Glorbs.
Use the boulder to kill the Glorbs and enjoy your Melodia Idol.
Continue heading east with the boulder until you reach a gate.
Similar to using Vortex on a Wind Stone, you can use the boulder to smash down this gate.
If players did not bring the boulder they can use the fruit as an alternative.
HEAD OUT OF OLD MINES WEST INTO OLD MINES BASEMENT
Upon entering the old mines basement, players can drop down the shaft and begin heading to the east of the area.
Players will be met by an armoured Glorb. Use Vortex on the Glorb to break down the gate.
If players kill the armoured Glorb by mistake before destroying the gate, players will have to use a fruit to destroy the gate.
Continue heading up to the right until you are met by a shaft.
THE TWELFTH MELODIA IDOL – OLD MINES BASEMENT
Dive down the shaft where you will be met by a vine gate, with a torch to the left and a Melodia Idol.
Use Slipstream to ignite the vine gate and collect the Melodia Idol.
CONTINUE TO UNLOCK THE NEXT AREA
To the right of you is a boulder. Use slipstream to carry the boulder onto the bottom mushroom and swipe down to cause the boulder to bounce into the air.
Once the boulder is in the air, swipe it left into the second mushroom causing the boulder to land to the right next to the gate.
Use Vortex on the boulder and break the gate. Continue heading to the east and head up the shaft until you see a ring pull latch.
Interact with the ring pull latch and then lift Toku up with a Gust current, opening one of the trap doors to the left of you.
Players will notice a Wind Stone inside of that room as well, but will not be able to access it.
Head back down and ignore the area above you as you will not be able to access what is there. There are two blue crystals blocking off entrances/exits.
When you’re heading back continue heading west until you are met by a fruit in front of a gate. Use the fruit to smash down the gate.
Start heading up the far east path until you are met by the two blue crystals.
To get up to the top players will need the help of the mushrooms. As mentioned, it’s easiest to stand on top of the mushroom and swipe down to shoot yourself forward.
Use Vortex on the Wind Stone and shatter both blue crystals. If players do not shatter both blue crystals they will have to shatter the second when re-entering the area. Honestly, save yourself the time.
THE THIRTEENTH MELODIA IDOL – OLD MINES WEST
Upon breaking the left hand Wind Stone players will be brought back into the Old Mines West where they can collect the thirteenth Melodia Idol.
HEAD OUT OF OLD MINES WEST TO OLD MINES
Once players enter the Old Mines they will need to destroy the blue crystal using the Wind Stone found to the right of the blue crystal.
THE FOURTEENTH MELODIA IDOL – OLD MINES
Between the two blue crystals, players will find the fourteenth Melodia Idol. Make sure you grab it before you using a Vortex on the second blue crystal.
CONTINUE HEADING EAST
Players should continue heading east with the Wind Stone with them until they reach a Melodia Statue and a door with a blue crystal embedded in it.
Use Vortex on the door and proceed to the next area.
EXIT THE OLD MINES AND ENTER CRYSTAL MINES WEST
Upon entering the Crystal Mines West players will see a ring pull latch that will open a trap door.
Continue down this shaft until you see an armoured Glorb next to a gate.
Throw the armoured Glorb up in the air and destroy the gate.
IGNORE THE PATH BEYOND THE GATE AND EXPLORE ABOVE YOU
Although you’re going to want to head into the path you just opened shortly, you’re not just ready because there is a boulder you’ll need.
Use a few Gust currents to carry you up the ledges until you see the boulder then turn back.
Take note that there is a patch of fertile dirt here.
Place the boulder a weighted pad and place a fruit on the other weighted pad and head to the Poyak plant.
THE FIFTEENTH MELODIA IDOL – CRYSTAL MINES WEST
The Melodia Idol will be located next to the Poyak plant.
After collecting the Melodia Idol use Slipstream to ignite the Poyak plant to collect the seed and begin heading back to the area you got the boulder from.
Plant the seed and it will automatically grow.
Use the Poyak plant to get up and continue to head east.
EXIT CRYSTAL MINES WEST AND ENTER CRYSTAL MINES
Head east towards the Poyak plant and ignite the Poyak plant with the torch by using Slipstream.
Carry the Poyak plant seed up to the northwest of the map where they will find some wet soil.
Place the Poyak plant seed in the wet soil and take the Poyak plant up and to the left where you will find a Wind Stone.
Bring the Wind Stone down the map with you and use the Wind Stone to destroy the gate to the east of the area.
Use the Poyak plant to shoot the Wind Stone into the air and drag the Wind Stone towards the right of the screen, next to the blue crystal. Use Vortex to smash the blue crystal.
Take note that you do not need to be near the Wind Stone to activate Vortex.
Go into the path you just unlocked and use the fire to the far east to light the unlit sticks at the entrance of that nook.
Use the fire to ignite the Helibud in order to get its seed.
Take the Helibud seed to where you re-planted the Poyak plant in order to get the Wind Stone.
Ignite the Poyak plant and replace it with the Helibud seed.
THE SIXTEENTH MELODIA IDOL – CRYSTAL MINES
Use the Helibud to travel northeast where you will find the sixteenth Melodia Idol.
Continue heading east all the way until you exit the Crystal Mines.
EXIT CRYSTAL MINES AND ENTER CRYSTAL MINES EAST
Upon entering the Crystal Mines east players will be met by a Melodia Statue, a lit torch and an unlit torch to the southeast.
Use the lit torch to light the unlit torch and continue down the shaft, lighting all the unlit torches on the way.
THE SEVENTEENTH MELODIA IDOL – CRYSTAL MINES EAST
Directly above the weighted platform is a pathway that leads to the seventeenth Melodia Idol.
Head back down and stand on the weighted pad to open a stone door.
Use Slipstream to drag the boulder on the other side of the stone door that opens and proceed to Slipstream the torch above you into the torch by the vine gate and ignite the vine gate.
Take some time to wipe your hands together, then pat yourself on the back and tell yourself, “Good Job!” You’re worthy and you’re worth it.
Head into the next area where you will find the entrance to Crystal Mines West
You’re not going to spend much time in Crystal Mines West, because all you need is a Gust current to take you to the ring pull latch which opens the area below.
USE THE HELIBUD TO GET TO THE NORTHEAST
It may take a few tries to get to, but players can Slipstream themselves to the Northeast by using a Helibud and lifting it past the stalagmite midway through the area.
COLLECT THE SECOND MEMORY CHEST & HEAD TO DEO
Upon exiting the Crystal Mines East you will enter the chamber of memories and want to head towards Deo’s Home.
Speak to Deo and he will progress the story. Enjoy!
AQUIRE THE JUMBRELLA CAPE
Players will now be able to Slipstream Toku, making it possible to indefinitely travel using Gust currents.
With the Jumbrella Cape players will be able to travel all around the LostWinds world and will be able to collect all of the leftover Melodia Idols.
Speaking of…
THE EIGHTEENTH MELODIA IDOL – DEO’S HOME
Players can use a Slipstream to quickly fly themselves beside Deo onto a ledge that is holding a Melodia Idol.
Congrats girlfran’!
HEAD TO BLOSSOM GROVE
Players will have to go through the bottom entrance located at the Southwest of Blossom Path, taking the boulder they find midway through with them.
Use Vortex on the boulder, destroying the gate and smash the gate. Continue going west until you are in Blossom Grove.
When you reach the Melodia Statue at the southwest corner of Blossom Grove players will want to Slipstream onto the tall ledges above.
Players can then enter Wither Falls.
As soon as players reach Wither Falls they will have to Slipstream themselves into the tight space directly above them.
Players will know they are in the right place as there will be directional signs to the left of them.
Use the Jumbrella Cape to Slipstream yourself until you land onto the platform towards the west. Enter this area.
THE NINETEENTH MELODIA IDOL – WITHER FALLS
Players should pull down on themselves to use the first mushroom to bounce onto the second mushroom found to the right of them while they are in the air.
Use the second mushroom to launch you to the west where the tentacle plants are found. Blow a Gust current onto them and progress west.
Push your body directly against the left wall and you will see a Melodia Idol with a boulder to the right of it.
Use Vortex on the boulder and smash the floor beneath it.
Drop down and use a Gust current to collect the Melodia Idol before dropping down and revealing
USE THE JUMBRELLA CAPE TO HEAD TO THE QUESTION MARK
This is the part of the walkthrough that I’m going to be either extremely unhelpful or extremely helpful… Use the Jumbrella Cape to fly yourself towards the northeast exit of this area, found at the highest point.
If you see flying Glorbs, you’re at the right place. Now just jump even higher to the east and you’ll exit into the next area.
COLLECT THE THIRD MEMORY CHEST & HEAD TO DEO
When you enter the newest area unlocked, Falls Windmill, players will be met by the third Memory Chest to the east of them.
To open the Memory Chest players must interact with the chest and then use a Gust current to pick themselves up to open it. Congrats!
THE TWENTIETH MELODIA IDOL – FALLS WINDMILL
Players must now use their Jumbrella Cape to collect the twentieth Melodia Idol which is very high up on the wall towards the east.
Players are encouraged to use a long Gust current straight up in order to locate the Melodia Idol before beginning to move Toku to the Melodia Idol.
Exit the Falls Windmill and head towards Deo.
THE TWENTY-FIRST MELODIA IDOL – BLOSSOM GROVE
Players can head to the east entrance of the Blossom Grove before they back towards Deo’s Home.
Use the Jumbrella Cape to collect the Melodia Idol which is on a ledge that is high up on the east side of the exit.
Players will be able to locate a torch here as well if they are concerned that they are in the wrong location.
Head west towards the Forgotten Chamber.
THE TWENTY-SECOND MELODIA IDOL – FORGOTTEN CHAMBER
When entering the Forgotten Chamber head down the shaft and on the right-hand side there will be a boulder and a gated door that needs to be broken down.
Use Vortex on the boulder by the gated door and smash it down to collect the Melodia Idol.
Head back towards Deo’s home.
HEAD TO THE ABANDONED VILLAGE
Head east towards the abandoned village, but take the lower path when you are going through Hilltop Village.
About halfway through players will find a boulder and must Slipstream along with them.
At the southeast corner of this area, players will find a gate that they must destroy using the boulder.
Continue heading through the area until you are in the Abandoned Village.
THE TWENTY-THIRD MELODIA IDOL – ABANDONED VILLAGE
Upon entering the Abandoned Village East players can head down the tiered steps towards the tentacle plants.
Use a Gust current to make the plant recede into the ground and collect the Melodia Idol.
TAKE THE HELIBUD
After players collect the Melodia Idol they can either use the Jumbrella to head up to the Helibud or can use the mushrooms to bounce on up.
Pick up the Helibud and head to the northwest. There is a little shaft there that will lead to an exit at the very top of the area that leads out through the northeast.
Don’t be tricked as there is an area directly northeast of the Helibud that will lead you in circles.
Here you will be met by a new type of Glorb that requires a Vortex to destroy. Basically, if you see a Glorb that is extremely agile and can hide in the ground, use a god damned Vortex on it!
Either way, onto the next area!
THE ABANDONED VILLAGE EAST
Upon entering the Abandoned Village East players will have to head down a shaft where they are met by a boulder and a gate.
Use the Vortex on the boulder to smash down the gate and proceed east
Keep heading east past the torch and pull on the ring pull lever by interacting with it and using a Gust current.
Make sure you do not destroy the armoured Glorb and instead use Vortex on the armoured Glorb in order to smash the next gate.
Here you will find a weighted pad, place the boulder on the weighted pad.
If you’ve used boulder to smash the gate, don’t worry you can head up the shaft and you will be met by plenty of boulders to the west of you.
Before you see those boulders you will see a Wind Stone entrapped in the area to the right.
Use Vortex on the Wind Stone and use it to destroy the ground below it. Then use the torch above the ignite the vine gate.
You will not be able to get the Wind Stone until you place a heavy object on the weighted pad. So continue heading west.
THE TWENTY-FOURTH MELODIA IDOL – ABANDONED VILLAGE EAST
Right by the dropped Wind Stone, where the gate has been opened, lies the final Melodia Idol.
Congratulations, you have now gotten all of the collectables in the game, but the game is not over yet.
TAKE THE WIND STONE TO THE WEST
Take the Wind Stone for a walk towards the west. It’s probably a better idea to keep the Wind Stone on the bottom half of the map, but this will require players using the ring pull lever to open the pathway.
Continue heading west, ensuring that the Wind Stone is always lifted until you are met by a blue crystal and use a Vortex on it.
COLLECT THE FINAL MEMORY CHEST & HEAD TO DEO
Enjoy your final chest and head to Deo for a quick chat. But before you talk to Deo make sure that you save your file and that you are at full health.
*cough* something special is about to happen.
DEFEATING THE FINAL BOSS MAGMOK
Players will be met with the final boss who can be defeated by using a few Glorb killing technics.
Players must avoid taking damage from Magmok when he drops his hands, though it seems like Magmok will drop his hands based on what side the player was on most recently.
Once Magmok’s hand is down players want to use a Slipstream on the closest torch in order to make the hand’s Glorb mound recede, which will allow the player to interact with it to destroy it.
Magmok will then expose his head. Use Vortex on the boulder and attack Magmok.
Repeat the above instructions on the other hand.
Now that both hands have been exposed, Magmok will expose his head again, but players can now guide the fire onto the Glorb mound to make it recede.
Congrats! You’ve beaten the game! It’s been a pleasure guiding you and I hope you enjoyed the game!
