It’s no secret that the Leveling Roulette is the most optimal way to level your Jobs to the maximum level and is typically the only Roulette players will complete daily, especially if they have side jobs they still need to level. You may already know that I went on a rampage this year in hopes of getting all of my jobs up to level 90 in preparation for Dawntrail. Though much of this is because I’m gearing up to run Mentor Roulettes and want to be as knowledgable about every job as to offer advice on the blog, on stream and when necessary during a duty, the other reason was that I felt I had waited long enough to learn specific Roles like Barrier Healer and Melee Jobs.
It took me about 3 months to max out all of the jobs I had hardly touched and while many of them were dwindling between various levels, I found ways to optimize the efficiency of time spent on experience gained.
Though the primary enjoyment I have in FFXIV comes from completing Duties, I have a few gripes with the content I run such as the number of times I got low-level Dungeons when I was really hoping to level and the fact that I would have to sacrifice higher tier Tomestones if I was choosing to run content on lower-level Jobs.
I’m honestly really happy all my jobs are at max level now as I no longer have to worry about not capping out my resources and can be generally more efficient when it comes to completing side content I had to take a break from while levelling.
So, why is it important that players attempt to complete content that is closer to their level? Well, there’s only one reason: you get more experience.
Though the Leveling Roulette provides players with at least half a level of experience each day, players have the chance to receive another half-level, if not more if the Dungeon they are completing is around their level. Though players do have the option to queue for these dungeons specifically, the hope for all players is that they get lucky and end up getting the Dungeon they wanted in the Roulette.
I have to admit that this becomes less likely as more content gets implemented into the game and although now I don’t mind getting Sastasha in the Leveling Roulette or one of the initial Trials, it was always a tiny bit frustrating when I was getting so close to max on a Job.
So, is it possible to ensure you get a Dungeon that is closer to your current Job level? Absolutely, there are just a few catches.
Note: If you have any questions about FFXIV that you want me to cover feel free to leave them in a comment below, you can also ask me while I am streaming on Twitch, YouTube or in our community discord.
WHAT IS THE LIMITED LEVELING ROULETTE?
The Limited Leveling Roullete is an option players can utilize in the Duty Finder when they are in a group of 4 players. Players will only be able to utilize this option if players fill each of the required roles as it is treated exactly as a Leveling Roulette would be, other than the duties that can turn up in the Roulette.
When this option is turned on the game will limit the dungeons to at most 6 levels below the lowest level player in the group. This is quite significant and rewards players for being in a full party as not only will players gain more EXP, but players who don’t need the EXP will be guaranteed higher Gear drops to exchange for Company Seals.
As for the other roulettes, there is no similar option and players will simply have to deal with whatever is given to them.
HOW DO YOU ACCESS THE LIMITED LEVELING ROULETTE?
To limit your Leveling Roulette, players must first head to their Duty Finder menu and click on the Gear in the top left corner.
Here players will be able to access a variety of options including Unrestricted Parties, which I covered very recently. The option you are looking for is at the very bottom of the list, “Limited Leveling Roulette.”
Simply click it, hit confirm and you’re good to go. This is still best done when a group of players is close in level ranges, though if you are trying to power level one member of the party it’s the best option no matter what.
I would strongly recommend joining a Free Company or a Cross World Linkshell dedicated to levelling so you can always use the Limited Leveling Roulette, however, at the end of the day I can promise you that levelling is one of the easier tasks to do in FFXIV so you don’t need to rush, especially with your side Jobs.
CONCLUSION
I’m genuinely curious how many of you use this function. I have to admit, it’s not often that I have as I’m typically in a party of 3, but on the rare occasion that I’m awake when my whole family is playing, we always use it.
I have to say, I tend to be happier when we use it because I get higher iLvl Gear to desynth, but since all my Jobs are at level 90 I don’t notice what content I’m doing unless I’m in a dungeon where I don’t have a “smooth” rotation or AoE if I’m on a Melee Job.
At the end of the day, I’m one of those players who’s happy to mindlessly complete any content as my happy place is spanking mobs. How about you?
