Getting your clothing to look exactly the way you want it to can be somewhat difficult in FFXIV, especially with clothing that only allows players to dye certain parts of it.
I know many of us are excited about the update in Dawntrail which will bring separate dye channels for pieces of Gear as this will probably bring a breath of fresh life into clothing we loved the look of but weren’t perfect because of the colouring limitations.
Although we’re not 100% certain what dye channels will look like and how they will be implemented in older glamours, we can be certain that players will be experimenting with various colour combinations to see what ends up looking good together.
Now, as I’m sure you know, while all colours can be obtained in FFXIV for free, there are a few which are much rarer than others as they require players to send their Retainers on Quick Ventures in hopes of obtaining a Venture Coffer which has a chance for these. Alternatively these colours can be purchased from the Mogstation or the Market Board if a player is understandably unable to wait.
Today’s guide will take you through all the different Dyes available in FFXIV and how to obtain them. It will also include locations of dye-selling Vendors, including those which require a currency other than Gil. Finally, although the title doesn’t suggest it, I will cover which dyes you can Craft as realistically all of these will be available on the Market Board.
Note: If you have any questions about FFXIV that you want me to cover feel free to leave them in a comment below, you can also ask me while I am streaming on Twitch, YouTube or in our community discord.

DYES FROM SPECIAL VENDORS
There are some Dyes that can only be purchased from Special Vendors that need to be unlocked. Many of these Vendors have their own currency, however, few will take your Gil
Many of these Dyes can be obtained in alternate ways, so I would recommend looking at a few different sections. While I have completed the content to unlock all of these Vendors, I find some currencies a lot easier to farm than others and realistically some of the conversion rates are straight-up wack.
Though, with that being said, there are some Dyes, specifically those tied to Beast Tribe/Tribal Quest which are only available this way and otherwise must be purchased from the Market Board.
Note that some seasonal event Vendors will sell dyes, however, I will not be including them on this list as they will not be available all year long. One of the most notable Vendors is the Fall Guys MGF Trader and though we know the Fall Guys event will be re-occurring we are unaware how often or for how long.
IXALI VENDOR
The Ixali is a Beast Tribe from A Realm Reborn. Their quest lines are quite long-winded and annoying to complete, so I wouldn’t recommend it unless you are a completionist or really want access to their Dyes without having to utilize the Market Board.
They will require players to craft items so if you are planning on levelling your Crafters this is a pretty solid way.
They provide players with the following Dyes:
Snow White Dye – 216 Gil
Soot Black Dye – 216 Gil
Hunter Green Dye – 216 Gil
Morbol Green Dye – 216 Gil
Royal Blue Dye – 216 Gil
SAHAGIN VENDOR
The Sahagin is another Beast Tribe that is part of A Realm Reborn. Again, these quests tend to be a bit more daunting than the newer iterations of Beast Tribes, though because they are combat-focused they aren’t too difficult and will not take you very much time to power through.
Players can purchase the following Dyes from the Sahagin:
Coral Pink Dye – 334 Gil or 1 Rainbowtide Psahp
Lilac Purple Dye – 216 Gil or 1 Rainbowtide Psahp
Corpse Blue Dye – 216 Gil or 1 Rainbowtide Psashp
Rhotano Blue Dye – 334 Gil or 1 Rainbowtide Psashp
Shadow Blue Dye – 334 Gil or 1 Rainbowtide Psashp
Iris Purple Dye – 334 Gil or 1 Rainbowtide Psashp
Lavender Purple Dye -216 Gil or 1 Rainbowtide Psashp
SYLPHIC VENDOR
Yet another Beast Tribe from A Realm Reborn provides players with their own unique dyes.
The Sylph Beast Tribe, though combat-oriented, has some annoying quests that players must complete, simply due to the odd mechanics they have. Though we see some of these mechanics in later Tribal Quests they tend to get better until they are fully removed.
Quite frankly, I’m just happy that Beast Tribes have two ways to purchase these unique Dyes, because you won’t see me farming their currency just to buy dye… no way.
The following Dyes can be purchased from the Sylphic Vendor:
Acorn Brown Dye – 334 Gil or 1 Sylphic Goldleaf
Qiqirn Brown Dye – 334 Gil or 1 Sylphic Goldleaf
Shale Brown Dye – 216 Gil or 1 Sylphic Goldleaf
Cactuar Green Dye – 334 Gil or 1 Sylphic Goldleaf
Lime Green Dye – 216 Gil or 1 Sylphic Goldleaf
Marsh Green Dye – 216 Gil or 1 Sylphic Goldleaf
Turquoise Green Dye – 334 Gil or 1 Sylphic Goldleaf
KOBOLD VENDOR
What do you think this Vendor is? Yet another Beast Tribe Vendor! For the most part, the Kobolds are fine, being that they are another Combat-oriented Beast Tribe, but again there are a couple of quests that are annoying to run.
You can buy the following Dyes from the Kobold Vendor:
Cork Brown Dye – 334 Gil or 1 Titan Cobaltpiece
Gobbiebag Brown Dye – 334 Gil or 1 Titan Cobaltpiece
Ul Brown Dye – 216 Gil or 1 Titan Cobaltpiece
Adamantoise Green Dye – 334 Gil or Titan Cobaltpiece
Apple Green Dye – 334 Gil or Titan Cobaltpiece
Meadow Green Dye – 216 Gil or Titan Cobaltpiece
Sylph Green Dye – 216 Gil or 1 Titan Cobaltpiece
AMALJ’AA VENDOR
The Amalj’aa are another Combat-based Beast Tribe from A Real Reborn and though there are a couple of quests that are annoying to deal with, for the most part it’s relatively easy to maximize your relationship with them.
The Amalj’aa provides players with the following Dyes:
Coeurl Yellow Dye – 216 Gil or 1 Steel Amalj’ok
Raisin Brown Dye – 334 Gil or 1 Steel Amalj’ok
Peacock Blue Dye – 334 Gil or 1 Steel Amalj’ok
Raptor Blue Dye – 216 Gil or 1 Steel Amalj’ok
Seafog Blue Dye – 216 Gil or 1 Steel Amalj’ok
Currant Purple Dye – 334 Gil or 1 Steel Amalj’ok
ENIE (THE FIRMAMENT/SKYBUILDER’S SCRIPS)
For players who are trying to level up their Crafters and Gatherers, chances are you’ve paid a visit to the Firmament which is part of side content that takes place in Foundation.
Though completing tasks such as the Diadem achievements takes an ungodly number of hours (trust me, I’m currently doing it), getting Skybuilder’s Scrips takes very little effort.
I get around 7,000 Skybuilder’s Scrips per haul in the Diadem, albeit I’m pretty darn good at Expert Crafting and I have stockpiles of intermediate resources if I choose to craft the lower-tier turn-ins. Though, with that being said, this is one of the easiest ways to stockpile Dyes
Dyes you can purchase include:
Cherry Pink Dye – 100 Skybuilder’s Scrips
Rose Pink Dye – 100 Skybuilder’s Scrips
Canary Yellow Dye – 100 Skybuilder’s Scrips
Vanilla Yellow Dye – 100 Skybuilder’s Scrips
Dragoon Blue Dye – 100 Skybuilder’s Scrips
Turquoise Blue Dye – 100 Skybuilder’s Scrips
Gunmetal Black Dye – 500 Skybuilder’s Scrips or 4 Fete Tokens
Pearl White Dye – 500 Skybuilder’s Scrips or 4 Fete Tokens
HORRENDOUS HOARDER (ISLAND SANCTUARY/SEAFARER’S COWRIE)
Island Sanctuary is by far the most passive way of getting dyes, but it takes a very long time to get your Island to become fully automated.
Quite frankly Island Sanctuary single-handedly tanked the Dye Market because of how passive it is, leading Dyes that once cost 40,000 Gil to drop to 12,000 and I truthfully don’t see it stopping anytime soon as more players get to the end game of Island Sanctuary.
Things may seem like they cost a lot in Island Sanctuary and while I must admit the Mounts are a pretty Cowrie, I ended up pentamelding a full Gatherer Set only using Cowries a few weeks ago and I’m already back at 200,000 Cowries.
The following Dyes can be purchased using Seafarer Cowries, the higher-tier currency in Island Sanctuary:
Cherry Pink Dye – 500 Seafarer’s Cowries
Rose Pink Dye – 500 Seafarer’s Cowries
Canary Yellow Dye – 500 Seafarer’s Cowries
Vanilla Yellow Dye – 500 Seafarer’s Cowries
Dragoon Blue Dye – 500 Seafarer’s Cowries
Turquoise Blue Dye – 500 Seafarer’s Cowries
Gunmetal Black Dye – 2,500 Seafarer’s Cowries
Pearl White Dye – 2,500 Seafarer’s Cowries
DYES THAT ARE OBTAINED IN DUTIES
I wasn’t aware that Dyes could be obtained in Duties as it seems to be a relatively small chance. I don’t know how often I’ve received Dye in this manner, but last week was the first time I noticed it happen and I thought I had accidentally taken a dye out of my retainer’s inventory.
Well, your little ol’ guide writer isn’t perfect and he’s oblivious since it turns out I got the Dye in a Duty and will cover which you can get in this manner. It’s honestly not worth farming a Duty for Dye since chances are it can be purchased from a Vendor for reasonably inexpensive, but you can make a pretty penny from them if you get lucky on the drop chance.

DYES RETAINERS CAN BRING BACK
There are a few Dyes that Retainers can bring back from Ventures though all of them are RNG-based and cannot be outwardly farmed.
The only way to get a consistent amount of Dyes with a retainer is by sending them on Ventures for pigments to craft with. For the most part, you will want to avoid sending your Retainers on Ventures for Dyes, due to the RNG, however, as you obtain 50 Pigments from Ventures these will be much more beneficial.
The following are the full Dyes that can be received through Ventures:
Aldgoat Brown Dye from Water Side Exploration V (Level 20) and Woodland Exploration VII (Level 30)
Kobold Brown Dye from Highland Exploration VII (Level 30) and Woodland Exploration V (Level 20)
Shale Brown Dye from Highland Exploration IV (Level 15)
Sunset Orange Dye from Waterside Exploration VII (Level 30), Highland Exploration III (Level 10) and Highland Exploration V (Level 20)

Deepwood Green Dye from Woodland Exploration IX (Level 40)
Lime Green Dye from Highland Exploration VI (Level 25)
Marsh Green Dye from Woodland Exploration VI (Level 25)
Ochu Green Dye from Waterside Exploration VI (Level 25) or Woodland Exploration IV (Level 15)
Othard Blue Dye from Waterside Exploration VI (Level 25)
Raptor Blue Dye from Woodland Exploration V (Level 20)
Seafog Blue Dye from Highland Exploration VI (Level 25) or Highland Exploration VIII (Level 35)
Storm Blue Dye from Highland Exploration VII (Level 30)
Woad Blue Dye from Highland Exploration IX (Level 40)
Plum Purple Dye from Highland Exploration V (Level 20) and Woodland Exploration VII (Level 30)
DYES THAT CAN BE CRAFTED
Crafting your Dye can come in extremely handy, especially if you’re someone who blasts through Dyes quickly.
I personally craft an ungodly amount of Dye and have hundreds of each colour stockpiled because I hate not having the colour I need when playing around in my Glamour Dresser.
Since there is a Summoning Bell in every Inn Room, it’s a lot easier to get your Dyeing done if they are already sitting in your Retainer’s inventory… so why not have hundreds?
All Crafters can craft any of the mentioned Dyes, however, you will need pigments which can easily be gathered by a Botanist or a Miner.
There are 7 colours of pigment: Blue, Brown, Green, Grey, Purple, Red and Yellow. All dyes only need one of these pigments to craft them.
Craftable Dyes include:
Snow White Dye – Grey Pigment
Soot Black Dye – Grey Pigment
Dalamud Red Dye – Red Pigment
Wine Red Dye – Red Pigment
Kobold Brown Dye – Brown Pigment
Loam Brown Dye – Brown Pigment
Pumpkin Orange Dye – Brown Pigment
Sunset Orange Dye – Brown Pigment
Honey Yellow Dye – Yellow Pigment
Millioncorn Yellow Dye – Yellow Pigment
Celeste Green Dye – Green Pigment
Deepwood Green Dye – Green Pigment

These Dyes are free variants of Dyes that can be bought on Mogstation and though they have other names, they provide the same colouration.
