Best Blood Type Ranked in V Rising

Last Updated May 31, 2022 By Johnny Salib / FlamingGaymer Leave a Comment

V Rising is one of the first games that I bought in Early Access since purchasing Grounded years ago. While I typically have a rule that I don’t buy Early Access Games, given the fact that I’m going to be buying myself My Time at Sandrock which comes out in Early Access soon I think I may actually get rid of that rule.

I bought V Rising this weekend and honestly haven’t put it down since buying it especially because it feels like a very fresh Survival Game that honestly reminds me of Don’t Starve Together, just the opposite. Instead of having to survive during the daytime, players will burn to death during Sunlight and will have to do the majority of their exploration at night or try to convert the whole world into Darkness in order to survive the whole time.

Honestly, I’m loving V Rising so much that my husband and I are starting a full playthrough on YouTube and I think I’ll be streaming it on Twitch when it fully gets released.

While V Rising does a good job of explaining the majority of aspects of the game in tooltips, there are some confusing aspects in it that took me a few hours of gameplay to understand, the biggest one being Blood Essence.

At first, I was under the impression that you could build your Blood Essence by feeding on enemies that are of the same type, but this could not be further from the truth. The following guide will take you through everything you need to know about Blood Essence and the different types you should be aware of.

HOW DOES BLOOD ESSENCE WORK IN V RISING?

Blood, in general, is one of the most important resources that players will need to be collecting in V Rising. Not only will Blood allow you access to healing skills/abilities, but there are different forms of Blood Essence that will make specific tasks much more bearable for players to complete.

Blood Essence itself will be obtained in orbs any time a player kills a mob that has blood, meaning that skeletons and “undead” enemies will not provide these resources. This form of Blood Essence is utilized in protecting your Castle by placing it into your Castle Heart. The Castle Heart will consume the Blood Essence Orbs and will help provide power to your different Crafting Stations, so you’re always going to want to make sure that you don’t run out of this resource.

Players will also need Blood Essence in order to craft various building pieces, though players can always store their Blood Essence in their Castle Heart and remove some as they need.

While players are able to collect Blood Essence simply by killing enemies, players will want to ensure that they feed on enemies every so often so their character’s blood reserve is full. Whenever a player Feeds on an enemy (completed by clicking F when an enemy’s health is low enough) they will take on the blood type of that enemy. Players will want to be smart about this as every mob has a different blood type and blood quality, though I will cover this more in-depth in the section below.

WHAT ARE THE DIFFERENT BLOOD TYPES IN V RISING

There are currently 7 different types in V Rising, though this doesn’t mean that more won’t be added, especially closer to the full launch of the game.

When it comes to taking on different blood types, players will want to pay attention to the blood quality of any mob they hope to feed on as every mob has a blood quality between 1% and 100%. The higher the quality of the blood, the more buffs you will get, so trying to focus on mobs that have 90% or higher is always going to help the player the most, though getting 100% blood quality is going to be the best as it ensures that players get all of the benefits available to them for that blood type.

As stated earlier, players cannot stack blood types and will overwrite the blood type that they currently have if they feed off a new enemy. This doesn’t matter if the enemy has the same blood type or not. If you had a 70% Warrior Blood Type and then Feed on a 19% Warrior, you’ll result in a 19% Warrior Blood Type. Due to this, players will want to ensure that they feed off of lower quality blood mobs until their Blood Pool is filled and then munch on the highest quality blood available to them.

Players can do this in a number of ways. Firstly, if players have a low blood pool, they should feed off of any mobs on their way to the location they are heading to, no matter what kind of blood they have until their health pool is filled. When players see a mob with high blood quality they should ensure that they do not kill it. This can get tricky if players are up against multiple mobs. Ensure that you kill the mobs with lower blood quality first as stopping midway through a battle to Feed may result in your death. You do get a bit of invulnerability, but this doesn’t last long. Doing so will also prove to be a bit counterproductive as players will need to heal themselves either by using Blood or by using a crafted item for healing. The latter is typically the better option.

Players can always double-check what Blood Type and what Blood Quality a mob has by hovering their cursor on it. This will help a player decide what mob they would like to Feed on as this becomes one of the most important aspects of the game.

Players should note that they will take on all of the Buffs in the lower tiers, meaning that someone with 60% Blood Quality will gain the perks of 30% and less than 30% as well.

The following are the different blood types:

FRAIL

Frail is by far the worst Blood Type to have, not only because it has no buffs, but due to the fact that players will begin losing health when they are out of blood.

Luckily for players, there aren’t really any tougher mobs that have this blood type, though if players are in a panic and eat something like a Rat to regain blood. I strongly advise against this and encourage players to use Rats for healing by crafting with them, though in a tough situation, sometimes it’s unavoidable.

CREATURE

Creatures are going to be the best mobs to Feed on if players are planning on exploring a lot as the bonuses players receive from them mostly have to do with resistance and movement speed.

I typically don’t take on the Creature Blood Type unless I have to feed, but the following are the buffs you receive.

LESS THAN 30% BLOOD QUALITY

Players will receive 15% Movement Speed

30% OR HIGHER BLOOD QUALITY

Players will receive 10-15 Sun Resistance Rating

60% OR HIGHER BLOOD QUALITY

Players will gain 10-20% Damage Reduction

90% OR HIGHER BLOOD QUALITY

Players will receive 150% bonus health regeneration

100% BLOOD QUALITY

Players will gain a boost on all the previous effects by 30%

WARRIOR

Warrior is by far one of my favourite Blood Types to get as it will greatly help players deal more damage passively to mobs. Whenever I find a 100% Warrior, I immediately feed on it, no matter what I’m doing as they are kind of rare to come by and will help in most aspects of the game.

The following are the bonuses players will receive from Warrior Blood in V Rising:

LESS THAN 30% BLOOD QUALITY

10-20% increased Physical Power

30% OR HIGHER BLOOD QUALITY

Plyers will receive an 8-15% reduced cooldown on any Weapon Skills

60% OR HIGHER BLOOD QUALITY

Players will take 7.5-15% reduced damage and will gain 25% extra damage towards mobs when they are at full health

90% OR HIGHER BLOOD QUALITY

Players have a 15% chance to parry an enemy upon attacking and will gain 50% damage reduction. If players parry an attack, they will get a 25% damage increase.

100% BLOOD QUALITY

If players have 100% Warrior Blood Quality they will gain a 30% boost on all the effects mentioned above.

ROGUE

The Rogue is another Blood Quality that I enjoy, though due to the fact that I’m not typically a Rogue kind of player, I tend to appreciate it a bit less.

Rogue Blood focuses on damage, though is more focused on players who use stealth abilities. Admittedly, playing Rogue in V Rising is quite a bit easier than playing Rogue in other games, so I can see myself using this Blood Type more in the future, especially as I get more skilled in the game.

The following are the bonuses players receive from the Rogue Blood Type.

LESS THAN 30% BLOOD QUALITY

Players will receive 10-20% Critical Stike on Weapon Attacks

30% OR HIGHER BLOOD QUALITY

Players will receive 8-15% Movement Speed

60% OR HIGHER BLOOD QUALITY

Players will receive 12-25% Reduced Cooldown on their Travel Skills and will gain 100% chance of a Critical Strike on their next physical attack after using their Travel Skill.

90% OR HIGHER BLOOD QUALITY

Players will have a 50% chance for a Critical Skrike to expose the Victim’s Armour. This will increase the damage the mob takes from all sources by 15% for 4 seconds. Admittedly, this is a pretty awesome buff as mobs can take damage from other mobs, making the pile on pretty great.

If players are in a multiplayer world, it’s always good to have at least one Rogue on your Team so you can stack damage better.

100% BLOOD QUALITY

This will boost all the previously mentioned effects by 30%

SCHOLAR

The Scholar is something that most players will not really want to focus on in the early game as players will need to rely on their spells in order to make the most use of this Blood Type, though it can be especially powerful for those who like ranged gameplay and are planning on using their spells often.

While players have access to a couple of spells as soon as they load a game, I have to say that spells don’t really become interesting until players kill enough of the V Blood Bosses.

The following are all of the boosts given by the Scholar:

LESS THAN 30% BLOOD QUALITY

Players will receive 12-25% increased spell power

30% OR HIGHER BLOOD QUALITY

Players will receive an 8-15% cooldown on all their spells

60% OR HIGHER BLOOD QUALITY

Players will receive 5-10% spell life leech, which is honestly great if you’re trying to conserve blood

90% OR HIGHER BLOOD QUALITY

Players will have a 20% chance that a spell will reset its cooldown upon cast

100% BLOOD QUALITY

All the above stats will receive a 30% buff

WORKER

The Worker is a Blood Essence that I didn’t think that I would like, simply from the name of the mob I fed on, but as soon as I got it I was so happy I did.

Honestly, the Worker is one of the best Blood Essences to get early game and if you can get a 100% Blood Quality mob with it, you’re really set.

Even if you’re closer to the late game, this is a great Blood Essence to have as it will simply provide you with a good amount of resources which you need a lot of, especially if you’re trying to make a megabase.

I have to say, I was very lucky to have my first Worker mob be a 100% mob, which is why I initially fed on it just to try it out. Honestly, I’m really happy that I did because you get the following bonuses:

LESS THAN 30% BLOOD QUALITY

Players will get 10-30% increased resource yield

30% OR HIGHER BLOOD QUALITY

Players will get 10-25% increased damage against resource objects

60% OR HIGHER BLOOD QUALITY

Players will get 10-20% increased mount gallop speed

90% OR HIGHER BLOOD QUALITY

Players have a 3% chance to completely break a resource when they try to attack it. This is very rare, but it is SO nice when it happens.

100% BLOOD QUALITY

Players will have all these effects boosted by 30%

BRUTE

The Brute is great for players who need some extra sustain and want to be a bit bulkier. Honestly, I would think of this blood type as the tank. I would strongly recommend it for players who are struggling to keep their health up in boss battles or who are newer to the game, though I don’t think that it’s absolutely necessary once you get the hang of kiting and fight patterns.

The following are all of the perks you get from the Brute blood:

LESS THAN 30% BLOOD QUALITY

7.5-12.5% primary attack life leech

30% OR HIGHER BLOOD QUALITY

7.5-15% increased primary attack speed and an extra level for all your gear

60% OR HIGHER BLOOD QUALITY

All healing received will be boosted by 20-35% and you heal 4% of cour victim’s health when striking a killing blow

90% OR HIGHER BLOOD QUALITY

6% chance for each heal to get a movement speed boost of 20% and a 25% damage boost for your primary attack

100% BLOOD QUALITY

All effects are boosted by 30%

CONCLUSION

Though at the end of the day you are not going to be fully in control of what mobs you fight and their quality of blood, players are going to want to take note of the area that mobs spawn in each area so they can try to locate whatever type of blood they need for the tasks they want to complete. While a 100% blood enemy is not guaranteed, players can keep farming mobs in these areas until they get one with a good amount of Blood Quality, though realistically I find that not focussing on Blood Quality is still alright.

I strongly recommend focussing on getting Workers in the early game to get as many resources as you can. It’s always going to be good to stock pile no matter what, because you never know when you’ll need a particular resource.

For me I’d rank the blood types as such:

Warrior

Scholar

Worker

Brute

Rogue

Creature

Frailed

Though I’d be very curious what your ranking is and what’s your favourite! Let me know in the comments below!
