One of the most frustrating elements of playing games such as Punball is the RNG mechanic. And although I typically give up on games with RNG mechanics such as Genshin Impact, I don’t see myself quitting Punball any time soon as it is much too fun and quite frankly many of the “lower tier Gear” is actually very powerful, especially when it comes to Pets.
Now, the reality of playing Punball is that there will always be circumstances where different sets of Gear or Pets will be better for players as some of their passives will be better for different bosses or mobs, though the bigger reality is that new game players are not going to have the luxury of having too many choices as players will need to fuse together pieces of Gear in order to empower others.
While luckily players will be able to move around their upgrades, being one of my favourite elements of the game, if players utilize a piece of Gear to upgrade it to the next tier or simply fuse it into another piece of Gear, players will no longer have access to it. The same is true for Pets.
Now, there are a few pieces of Gear and a few Pets that I would recommend that players always refrain from using as fodder as the reality is that players will always have more A-level Gear than S or SS. Due to the very limited amount of S and SS Gear, players will more commonly need to rely on their upgraded A-tier Gear to get through the higher tier content until players have a way to regularly supply themselves with S-tier Gear.
Now, players can get themselves one piece of S-tier Gear weekly if they are far enough into the Trial Tower, however, the only current way to get S or SS-tier Pets is to get them with Gems or during events where players need to trade in currency. Though Pets are much harder to get duplicates of, the more common A-tier Pets are actually quite powerful and many players still use them in the late game.
The following guide will take you through everything you need to know about the Best A-Rank Pets in Punball, ranking them and letting you know why I feel this way. At the end of the day, players may need different skills from their Pets depending on what their Gear’s passives are, so your top list may look different. I would love to hear your feedback on what you think about the way I’ve ranked these Pets, especially if you seem to have a different playstyle than me!
12. CHOMPER
The Chomper was the first Pet I gained access to and I got it while it was at the Good tier. While at first, I thought it was going to be completely and utterly useless, I actually found it very helpful for clearing stages in the first few sections of the game.
Admittedly, the Chomper isn’t great for the mid-to-late game so I would always use it as fodder for the Butterfly.
GOBBLE – GOOD
Every 3 rounds the Chomper can gobble up a single enemy in the front row.
COMBAT BALL – RARE
Players will receive a Combat Ball as soon as they spawn into a map.
SUPER GOBBLE – LEGENDARY
The Chomper can now eat mobs in the bottom two rows instead of just the bottom row.
BLESS – HONOUR
All pets gain a 25% increase in stats.
11. FIRE DRAGON
I’m personally not a fan of the Fire Dragon and would never use it. While admittedly it can deal a good amount of damage to many mobs, the fact that it only deals damage every 5 Rounds makes it pretty unappealing to me. Now, that being said, some players actually find the utility of the Fire Dragon to be useful, so if you have a good one, you can still get away with using it for some decent damage.
I would still recommend using this as fodder in the future, but only when you have the Fire Boar.
DRAGON BALL – GOOD
Every 5 Rounds the Fire Dragon can deal damage in a 3×3 area with a chance to burn, similar to the Meteor Staff.
FIRE BALL – RARE
Players will receive a Fire Ball as soon as they spawn into a map.
SUPER DRAGON BALL – LEGENDARY
The Dragon Ball gains an increase in size, now affecting a 4×4 area.
BLESS – HONOUR
All pets gain a 25% increase in stats.
10. PUFFER
The Puffer, in my opinion, is the absolute worst defensive Pet available to you. Unfortunately, 10% Maximum Health every 5 Rounds is pretty bad, so I would not use it unless you’re in the very early game and it’s your only good pet. I would always use this as fodder in the future.
HEALING – GOOD
Players will heal 10% of their Maximum HP every 5 rounds.
FROZEN BALL – RARE
Players will receive a Frozen Ball as soon as they spawn into a map.
SUPER HEALING – LEGENDARY
If players are at maximum health they will gain a shield with the bonus healing.
BLESS – HONOUR
All Pets will gain a 25% boost in stats.
9. THUNDER BEAR
The Thunder Bear is annoying in my opinion as while it can deal damage to a number of Monsters, there can be a chance that the Thunder Bear will only damage a single enemy as the row it chooses to damage is random.
Admittedly, the Legendary Thunder Bear is pretty good, but it still doesn’t make up for it in my opinion.
SWEEP – GOOD
Every 4 rounds players will be able to deal damage to a random row of Monsters with a chance to paralyze them.
LIGHTNING BALL – RARE
Players will receive a Lightning Ball as soon as they spawn into a map.
SUPER SWEEP – LEGENDARY
Sweep now has a 25% chance to trigger twice.
BLESS – HONOUR
All Pets will gain a 25% boost in stats.
8. THUNDER BOAR
The Thunder Boar was the first useful Pet I had and it can be pretty great for securing kills on enemies when they are low on Health. Again, there is a bit of RNG to this Pet, but due to the high amount of damage I would recommend this until you get the best Pets in the game.
CHAIN LIGHTNING – GOOD
Every 4 Rounds players will be able to deal damage with Chain Lightning that damages 3 Monsters with the chance to paralyze them.
LIGHTNING BALL – RARE
Players will receive a Lightning Ball as soon as they spawn into a map.
SUPER CHAIN LIGHTNING – LEGENDARY
Chain Lightning can now hit 4 Monsters at a time.
BLESS – HONOUR
All Pets will gain a 25% boost in stats.
7. JUNGLE BOAR
I honestly thought that the Jungle Boar was going to be the worst Pet that was useless, but since playing the Apollo Ruins, the Jungle Boar actually made it to the top of the list of Pets to use, especially with the Magic Crown which will make each killed Monster drop a Normal Ball.
This is great for clearing out Monsters if there is no space between them, though is less useful in regular maps then it is for maps where a set amount of Monsters spawn.
I would personally keep at least one decent Jungle Boar in your inventory instead of always using it as fodder, though if you need fodder for your Butterfly, this is more important. Even keeping a “Good” Jungle Boar is decent for the rounds you need the Jungle Boar.
SOMERSAULT – GOOD
Every 5 rounds the Jungle Board will do a Somersault from the top of the screen, dealing damage to Monsters from behind. This can happen a maximum of 10 times before the Jungle Boar disappears.
BACKSTAB BALL – RARE
Players will receive a Backstab Ball as soon as they spawn into a map.
SUPER SOMERSAULT – LEGENDARY
The Jungle Boar can now clash into enemies a maximum of 15 times.
BLESS – HONOUR
All Pets will gain a 25% boost in stats.
6. FIRE WOLF
The Fire Wolf is extremely useful in the late game, though the reason it makes it to fourth for me is simply the fact that I prefer the defensive Pets to the more offensive ones.
Admittedly, players will gain a really good amount of damage from the Fire Wolf every 5 Rounds, though it doesn’t really become worth it until it is at the Legendary tier.
The Fire Wolf excels in the late game when players have a lot of balls at their disposal, however, if players are unlucky and only have less than 10 balls, it’s not really worth it as well.
This is why I prefer the Fire Boar, simply because of the RNG, though there are plenty of times where the Fire Wolf is actually better.
WOLF HOWL – GOOD
Every 5 rounds players will gain a 35% increase in damage that lasts a single round.
FIRE BALL – RARE
Players will receive a Fire Ball as soon as they spawn into a map.
SUPER WOLF HOWL – LEGENDARY
The Wolf Howl will now last 2 rounds.
BLESS – HONOUR
All Pets will gain a 25% boost in stats.
5. FIRE BOAR
I love the Fire Boar because it will always deal damage if a player is damaged. Now, the one major downfall to the Fire Boar is that players will not be able to damage enemies if the enemy hits them with a shield on, unless the shield breaks.
For players who are running Gear that provides a shield or Pets that provide a shield, the Fire Boar becomes useless. This doesn’t usually happen until the very mid to late game, so at this point, players will want to use the Fire Wolf instead of the Fire Boar.
The best part of the Fire Boar is that it is one of the only Pets that can deal damage every single Round, making it one of the strongest. It is especially helpful when players are able to collect health to make up for the damage lost from being attacked.
FIRE THORN – GOOD
Every Round if a player takes damage the Fire Boar will deal damage to 3 monsters.
FIRE BALL – RARE
Players will receive a Fire Ball as soon as they spawn into a map.
SUPER FIRE THORN – LEGENDARY
If a player’s Health is under 30% the damage dealt by Fire Thorn will be increased.
BLESS – HONOUR
All Pets will have 25% boosts on their stats.
4. TURTLE
Admittedly, I’ve never had to use the Turtle as I had a better Octopus before the Turtle. The reason I prefer the Octopus over the Turtle is that the Octopus has a 100% shield due to its dodge, however, the Turtle’s shield can break and can essentially leave the player exposed.
The Turtle doesn’t actually become useful until it is Legendary, so at that point, it will be your choice whether or not you use Turtle or Octopus.
I will say, the more damage blocked at 50% health is very useful.
TURTLE SHELL – GOOD
Every 5 Rounds the Turtle will provide players with a shield that nullifies Monsters attacks. There is an unknown amount of health in this shield so players may still be damaged.
FROZEN BALL – RARE
Players will receive a Frozen Ball as soon as they spawn into a map.
SUPER TURTLE SHELL – LEGENDARY
When the player’s HP is less than 50% more damage is blocked.
BLESS – HONOUR
All Pets will gain a 25% boost in stats.
3. THUNDER WOLF
Contrary to popular opinion, I think that the Thunder Wolf is in the top 3 of Pets as it can provide players with a good amount of healing, especially if players are good at killing a set amount of Monsters.
There are a couple of downfalls to the ThunderWolf. If players kill more than 15 Monsters they will not gain more healing and the healing will always take place after a player gets damaged, leaving them susceptible to death.
I would still say the Thunder Wolf is really great, especially when a player is doing progression content or is doing re-runs to grind out resources.
Thunder Wolf is the best way to heal and quite frankly until you get an S-tier or higher, I would recommend using this Pet.
REAPER – GOOD
Players will be able to collect a single Monster Soul every time they kill a Monster. When 15 are collected, players will receive 10% of their maximum health back. Players should note that they will only heal after they have taken damage that round, so they may still die even if they have collected 15 souls.
LIGHTNING BALL – RARE
Players will receive a Lightning Ball as soon as they spawn into a map.
SUPER REAPER – LEGENDARY
Players now have the chance to receive 2 Souls from each Monster they kill.
BLESS – HONOUR
All Pets will gain a 25% boost in stats.
2. OCTOPUS
The Octopus works really well with Hermes boots as at the Legendary stage players will be able to heal themselves any time they dodge. When players have enough Health, players will no longer want to use the Thunder Wolf and will want to substitute an S or SS-tier Pet, but this will take you some time.
I wouldn’t recommend replacing the Octopus, unless you have multiple good Pets, especially due to the fact that it will keep a player completely protected every 5 rounds.
DODGE – GOOD
Every 5 Rounds players will dodge all Monster’s attacks, including the boss.
FROZEN BALL – RARE
Players will receive a Frozen Ball as soon as they spawn into a map.
RECOVER – LEGENDARY
Any time the player dodges, even if it is not using the Octopus, the player will receive some HP.
BLESS – HONOUR
All Pets will have a 25% boost on all their stats.
1. BUTTERFLY
The Butterfly is by far the best A-Rank Pet in the game and is used by most players in the end game. Butterfly, by far, is considered to be a non-arguable necessity for progression content and even further if players want to guarantee their success for the completion of levels.
Players will often always have the Butterfly on their Pet Roster as it can essentially provide you with 2 rescues, especially if players are able to heal themselves after the rescues.
SACRIFICE – GOOD
If a player dies in a round they will revive with 50% of their Health.
STRENGTH – RARE
Players will receive the Strength skill as soon as they spawn into a map, which will boost their Health every few rounds.
REBIRTH – LEGENDARY
After the Butterfly recovers a player, it can be revived after 15 rounds to revive the player again after they die. Players again will only receive 50% of their health.
BLESS – HONOUR
All Pets will have a 25% boost on all their stats
