Learning the various types of traps in Orcs Must Die 3 can be fairly difficult, especially as the game doesn’t really let players know exactly what the trap does, whether it’s useful for the player and will often leave players questioning whether or not a trap is worth purchasing or not.
The reality is that any trap is going to be useful to purchase when playing Orcs Must Die 3, as in many cases players will be up against mobs that have different forms of immunity, which will essentially mean that certain traps are useless for some levels while they were extraordinarily powerful on other maps.
When it comes down to choosing traps, players are going to have a few things to keep in mind:
What is their favourite form of dealing damage?
What does the map look like in regards to placement of traps and types of traps?
What is the immunity or the weakness that the mobs have on this current map?
How many Skulls do I have to shift around upgrades to ensure that the traps I currently have are fully upgraded and does it matter?
The latter of these questions mostly affects players in the late game and newer players should not worry as much about it as this isn’t as big of a deal, unless players are placing two conflicting traps with each other.
The following is all the information you’re going to need to know about the Acid Geyser, when you would like to use it and what traps are best with it.
HOW TO UNLOCK THE ACID GEYSER
Unlike many other traps in Orcs Must Die 3, players must trade in 7 Skulls to unlock the Acid Geyser by heading into their items section.
It should be noted that making the purchase of the Acid Geyser is non-refundable, so if a player doesn’t have too many Skulls or is trying to save as many Skulls as they can to quickly alternate between upgrades for their traps, they should think about purchasing the Acid Geyser a bit before making the purchase.
ACID GEYSER’S BASE STATS
The Acid Geyser is a normal sized trap than most taking up 1 standard square and spanning in a 2×2 Square (if broken by metrics).
The Acid Geyser triggers against that are 2 Squares Tall and 3 Squares Wide.
When placing the Acid Geyser players will have to pay 700 Coins to place it.
Due to the fact that the Acid Geyser has Acid attacks, it will cause melting while dealing 15 damage for 6 seconds.
After this 6 seconds, the Acid Geyser will take 17.5 seconds to recharge unless it is further upgraded.
Acid Geysers shoot in an AoE fashion and while it can hit multiple mobs at once, there is a chance that its attack will miss.
Affected mobs will all take a 20% slow for 0.1 seconds before they return to their normal speed.
Players will want to be wary about placing this trap after a freezing trap as an upgraded Acid Geyser may essentially betray a player who is using freezing enemies to ensure that they don’t escape quickly. In most cases this isn’t a problem because damage is the most important element to deal damage to mobs to quickly kill them, especially if you are trying to gather as many Skulls as you can from each level.
ACID GEYSER’S UPGRADES
The Acid Geyser, like many other traps, has two different types of upgrades, their Level Upgrades, which can be unlocked immediately for Skulls and their Unique Upgrades which require players to deal 5,000 damage using this trap in order to unlock.
LEVEL UPGRADES
All of the Acid Geyser’s upgrades will provide players with a cooldown.
The first upgrade costs 4 Skulls and will reduce the Acid Geyser’s cooldown so it only lasts 16.5 seconds instead of 17.5.
The second upgrade costs 6 Skulls and will reduce the Acid Geyser’s cooldown so it only lasts 16.5 seconds instead of 17.5.
The first upgrade costs 4 Skulls and will reduce the Acid Geyser’s cooldown so it only lasts 16.5 seconds instead of 17.5.
UNIQUE UPGRADES
As mentioned, the Unique Upgrades for the Acid Geyser will require players to utilize the Acid Geyser a few times before they actually gain access to them.
Players will have to place an adequate amount of Acid Geysers in order to deal 5,000 damage to mobs in maps and do not need to complete this in one run as this is a cumulative amount of damage.
The following are the two unique upgrades.
For 8 Skulls players can get an increased duration to 2 seconds instead of 1.
For 8 Skulls players can increase the melting duration making enemies defrost after 3 seconds instead of 6, though this does not seem to work correctly, so avoid it.
IS THE ACID GEYSER GOOD?
The Acid Geyser can be a very good trap to use as long as players pair it up with the right traps.
Some of the best traps to pair the Acid Geyser with are the Tar Traps as they will slow down enemies to ensure that they are affected by the Acid Geyser.
Alone the Acid Geyser isn’t a great trap as mobs will essentially avoid a good portion of the damage or may not be in range long enough to receive all of the damage they can while the Acid Geyser is spewing.
