All Mobs Weaknesses and Resistances in New World

Last Updated January 1, 2023 By Johnny Salib / FlamingGaymer Leave a Comment

When it comes to playing any game, especially a combat focussed game, it’s going to be extremely important to understand the Weaknesses and Resistances of all the mobs.

Admittedly, I’ve never played a game that had as much importance when it came to understanding Weaknesses and Resistance and only recognized how intense the knowledge of Weaknesses and resistances was until I was completing Mutations in New World.

Now, I still don’t know how I feel about how intense Weaknesses are Resistances are in New World as there are some Weapons that really get the short end of the stick for so much content.

For example, Weapons with elemental base damage, such as the Fire Staff, Void Gauntlet, Ice Gauntlet or even Life Staff become tremendously useless for players to use in particular Mutations due to the fact that a player cannot fully convert the elemental damage, even with Gems. Though this is not really a problem for lower Mutations, do not be surprised if you are not accepted into lobbies in later Mutations where your Weapon doesn’t make sense, such as a Fire Staff in a Mutation that has 50% Fire Resistance.

In these situations, I would strongly recommend that you have at least 4 Weapons up to maximum Mastery unless you are willing to simply run lower tiers of Mutations until you have better Weapons for the situation. Admittedly, once you clear Mutation 10 with Gold you’re probably going to only want to focus this content, especially because you have a higher chance to always get Legendary Gear, but this will always depend on whether or not you want the specific Gear that drops.

But the topic of Mutations isn’t why I’m writing this post, so let’s get back onto topic of the Weaknesses and Resistances that each mob has in New World. Though these factors are mostly going to be used for Mutations, they are going to be extremely useful for farming in the Overworld, especially if you’re struggling against mobs that are above your level.

WHAT MOBS ARE THERE IN NEW WORLD?

I feel very silly to admit it, but there are only 5 types of mobs in New World and I wasn’t initially aware of it. For some reason, I thought that there were neutral mobs that didn’t fit into the META of dungeons while you’re exploring the Overworld, but this is not true.

The 5 types of mobs include the following:

Ancients

Corrupted

Angry Earth

The Lost

Beast

The first four are the only that appear in Dungeons currently (with slight few trash mobs and one Elite that are Beast) but this will change in 2023 as we will be experiencing our first raid against a Beast.

As that raid hasn’t come out yet, I am not really going to be focussing on Beast much, though I will say I hope they change the Weaknesses and Resistances a bit as there’s only one type of Weapon that deals more damage to it and it has no Resistances. While this is somewhat good to hear, it doesn’t really fit into the rest of mobs’ META so I would not be surprised if this does get a rework.

I will also say, although each mob has resistance and weakness, any mob level 61 and below should be fine not to optimize for, but if you’re going out solo you’re going to have some difficulty with level 62 and higher, especially if you’re wearing Light Armour.

WHAT ARE THE TYPES OF WEAPON DAMAGE

There are currently 9 types of Weapon Damage in New World, 3 being Weapon Specific forms of damage and 6 being Elemental forms of damage. At the moment only 4 Weapons inherently have the have the Elemental forms of damage, though the other two Elements can be added by using Gems.

Every type of Weapon is at least more powerful to at least a single type of mob and there will always be at least one mob that resists that Weapon. The only Weapon that no mob resists is the Life Staff, unless there is a modifier on a Mutation.

I will cover the specifics of each of these in each mob category, but for now, to split it up this is what you need to know:

Physical Types of Damage:

Slash

Thrust

Strike

Elemental Types of Damage:

Fire

Ice

Nature

Void

Lightning

Arcane

WHAT WEAPONS HAVE WHAT TYPES OF DAMAGE?

Sword and Shield – Slash

Rapier – Slash

Hatchet – Slash

Spear – Thrust

Gear Axe – Slash

War Hammer – Strike

Greatsword – Thrust

Bow – Thrust

Musket – Thrust

Blunderbuss – Thrust

Fire Staff – Fire Damage

Life Staff – Nature Damage

Ice Gauntlet – Ice Damage

Void Gauntlet – Void Damage

WHAT ARE ANCIENTS WEAK AND RESISTANT TO

Ancients appear in the following Dungeons:

Amrhein Excavation (Level 25)

Starstone Barrows/The Destroyed Obelisk (Level 35)

The Lazarus Instrumentality (Level 60)

The Ennead (Level 60)

Ancients are Weak to:

Lighting Damage – 30%

Strike Damage – 20%

Void Damage – 15%

Ancients are Resistant to:

Fire Damage – 40%

Slash Damage – 15%

Most Optimal Weapons to use in the above Dungeons:

No matter what Weapon you use, it’s going to be important that you use a Gem that provides you with Electric Damage. Even if your Weapon has Strike Damage already, you will get more damage out of Strike Damage plus Lightning.

The Gem to use is called Topaz and will either scale off of Intelligence or your weapon’s main stat (whichever is higher).

The best Weapon to use for Ancients is a War Hammer with Topaz inside of it, though if you’re tanking use a Carnelian Gem so you can taunt.

The second best Weapon (though debatable due to its low damage) is the Void Gauntlet. You will also want to infuse it with Topaz to optimize the damage.

There aren’t really any moments where these aren’t the best Weapons in said Dungeons as there are no Mutations that affect Lightning Damage or Physical Damage.

Least Optimal Weapons to use in the above Dungeons:

The absolute worst Weapon to use against Ancients is the Fire Staff. Admittedly, if you’re running basic content or up to Mutation 5, you’re fine, but otherwise you’ll want to run another Weapon that deals more damage.

Though not the worst, other Weapons it’s recommended to avoid:

Great Axes

Hatchets

Rapiers

Some Swords

Weapons that have no negative or positive to using in the above Dungeons:

Bows

Muskets

Blunderbuss

Spears

Swords

Ice Gauntlet (as long as there is no Ice Modifier)

Life Staff (as long as there is no Nature Modifier)

WHAT ARE CORRUPTED WEAK AND RESISTANT TO

Corrupted mobs appear in the following Dungeons:

The Depths (Level 45)

Dynasty Shipyard (Level 55)

Tempest’s Heart (Level 60)

Corrupted are Weak to:

Arcane – 30%

Thrust – 20%

Nature – 15%

Corrupted are Resistant to:

Ice – 40%

Strike – 15%

Most Optimal Weapons to use in the above Dungeons:

As there are a number of Weapons that are actually useful against Corrupted Mobs I’m going to start off with what Gem you want to use.

I would strongly recommend trying to use Arcane damage on all of your Weapons when against Corrupted Mobs, especially when running Mutations as there are never any instances where Arcane is lowered. The Gem you would be using is Sapphire and it will scale on Intelligence or the Weapon’s base stat, whichever is higher.

The Weapons that deal the most damage against Corruption (especially with Sapphire on them) are:

Bows

Muskets

Blunderbuss

Spears

some Swords

The Life Staff is also decent against Corrupted, but let’s be honest… it’s the Life Staff.

Least Optimal Weapons to use in the above Dungeons:

The least useful Weapon to use against Corrupted is the Ice Gauntlet, so I would recommend using it only in the lower Mutations and then switching to a better Weapon in the later ones.

If players are trying to min-max they will also want to avoid the War Hammer, though if you only like tanking with one, this can be a bit of a problem.

Weapons that have no negative or positive to using in the above Dungeons:

Weapons that are average and have no pros or cons against Corrupted are the following:

Great Axes

Hatchets

Rapiers

some Swords

Fire Staff

Void Gauntlet

WHAT ARE ANGRY EARTH WEAK AND RESISTANT TO

Dungeons Angry Earth appear in:

Garden of Genesis (Level 60)

Angry Earth are Weak to:

Fire – 30%

Slash – 20%

Angry Earth are Resistant to:

Lightning – 40%

Thrust – 15%

Most Optimal Weapons to use in the above Dungeons:

The most optimal Weapons against Angry Earth will need a combination of a Ruby Gem.

The absolute best Weapon against Angry Earth is the Fire Staff, otherwise you can use one of the following:

Great Axe

Hatchets

Rapiers

some Swords

Least Optimal Weapons to use in the above Dungeons:

I’m not going to lie, there are really no horrible Weapons to use against Angry Earth unless you have Lightning Damage on them, but the following are resisted by a small amount:

Bows

Muskets

Blunderbuss

Spears

some Swords

Weapons that have no negative or positive to using in the above Dungeons:

The following have no impact to or from their damage dealt:

War Hammers

Ice Gauntlet

Life Staff

Void Gauntlet

WHAT ARE THE LOST WEAK AND RESISTANT TO

Dungeons The Lost appear in:

Amrhein Excavation (Level 25)

Barnacles and Black Powder (Level 60)

The Lost are Weak to:

Nature – 30%

Ice – 15%

Strike – 10%

The Lost are Resistant to:

Void – 40%

Thrust – 15%

Most Optimal Weapons to use in the above Dungeons:

When it comes to dealing the most damage against The Lost you will want to use an Amber Gem so you can deal Nature Damage.

The only Weapon with this Attribute is the Life Staff, though the actual best Weapon is the Ice Gauntlet with the Amber Gem.

Other Weapons that are good with the Gem include:

War Hammers

Least Optimal Weapons to use in the above Dungeons:

The Void Gauntlet is undeniably the worst Weapon to use against Angry Earth, though the following are also not as effective as the War Hammer or Ice Gauntlet:

Bows

Muskets

Blunderbuss

Spears

some Swords

Weapons that have no negative or positive to using in the above Dungeons:

Weapons that have no negative of positive against Lost are:

Fire Staff

Great Axe

Hatchet

Rapier

some Swords

WHAT ARE BEASTS WEAK AND RESISTANT TO

Dungeons Beasts appear in:

None

Beasts are Weak to:

Thrust Damage – 20%

Beasts are Resistant to:

Nothing

Most Optimal Weapons to use in the above Dungeons:

Bows

Muskets

Spears

some Swords

Least Optimal Weapons to use in the above Dungeons:

None

Weapons that have no negative or positive to using in the above Dungeons:
