Fran Bow was truly a mind-stirring game to play, being one of the game that hit me right in a soft spot of my heart.
While I played Fran Bow on Twitch as soon as I began to play, I knew that I would play it again to find out all the secret mysteries of the game.
If players have spent anytime in Fran Bow they know that there are a lot of secret dialogues and prompts that players can locate by clicking on the various objects around the world. While I wasn’t able to explore every nook and cranny on stream in hopes of not prolonging a play through too long, I have to admit that I’ve spent a good chunk of my time trying to find every secret in the game and really delve into the universe of Fran Bow.
While Fran Bow is a decently lengthy game, the reality is that there aren’t that many hidden achievements in comparison. There are a good amount of hidden texts that help make more sense of the confusing story. Although I wouldn’t say that these hidden texts are important for progression and can ultimately be skipped, I would strongly recommend them for players who are invested and interested in the story.
While I won’t be covering the majority of the hidden elements in the game that give players more insight in Fran Bow’s story, many of the biggest elements that provide players more information are connected to the Steam Achievement system.
The following guide will contain some story spoilers, so I would recommend if you haven’t played through the game to avoid this guide as players will be able to warp into the different Chapters to finish off the Achievements they haven’t completed in the first run. Note, the Chapter skipping will be available any time a player completes that Chapter.
CHAPTER ONE
There are two Achievements players can locate in Chapter one of Fran Bow, though players will need to be cautious as players can ultimately lock themselves out of these Achievements if they are unaware of them. Luckily for players, if they reload Chapter One they will be able to acquire them if they missed them the first time.
SLEEPY PRINCESS
Sleepy Princess requires players to put the guard to sleep in the right fashion. The reality is that there are a few ways to get the guard to leave in order to progress and get the key, however, players can ultimately make the mistake of choosing the wrong dialogue, thus locking them out of this achievement.
In order to start Sleepy Princess, players will have to grab a cake and crush the pills into it. Now, pay attention to this as there is only one way to get the guard to eat the cake. Players must always select the “B” option for dialogue when speaking to the guard, essentially being the following:
- A Cake! Eat it!
- You’ll regret it!
- Fresh from the oven!
I FOUND MY WAY OUT
I found my way out requires players to find their way out of the maze after they escape the Asylum. While players can skip this mini-game it is quite short and quite frankly the easiest of the mini-games in Fran Bow.
If you feel like a map of this maze would be useful, let me know so I can write about it, however, I found it very straight forward and got it in the first try.
CHAPTER TWO
Chapter Two has 5 achievements to unlock and I have to admit that these achievements were a bit more difficult to discover and locate, essentially I feel like these Achievements are geared towards players who are aimlessly clicking or are very interested in discovering all the side story in the game.
IT TASTED FABULOUS!
It tasted fabulous requires players to locate the table with all the snacks on it. Players should begin by clicking on the cupcakes, though if they get locked into not being able to eat more than one they should click the other sweets.
Essentially players will have to eat 3 times in order to get It tasted fabulous!
I BURN YOU!
I Burn You is actually an achievement that took me a really long time to discover as when I’m in the Twin’s Home trying to cut the bottle off the rope I always use the Knife.
If you don’t know what part Im talking about, it’s when you use your pills to get into the Well. Essentially, players will have to climb up the bricks and will need to place the plank in order to reach the bottle.
When players are at the bottle, instead of using your Knife to cut the rope down, use your Matches to burn the rope.
HELLO DOLLY!
Hello Dolly is a very easily missed Achievement to unlock and will require players to visit the baby stroller in the attic upon completing the ritual.
If players visit the baby carriage before the ritual they will witness a double headed baby, which I recommend checking out because it’s a sight to see. When players revisit the carriage or see it for the first time after the ritual they will see a doll in the carriage.
REUNITE WITH MR. MIDNIGHT
Reunite with Mr. Midnight is an achievement that you can’t avoid as it requires players to free Mr. Midnight from his cage which is part of the story no matter what.
TOAD ON BOARD!
Toad on Board requires players to finish the Toader game. I’ll be honest, I suck at Frogger and obviously Toader, so I skipped this at first.
CHAPTER THREE
Chapter Three has 4 hidden achievements that players can collect and while many are straight forward, it really depends on how a player thinks and how the player wants Fran to interact with the various characters.
Admittedly, these achievements are easier to unlock that many of the others.
FASTER THAN A SNAIL
Faster than a Snail relates to the Snail who provides Fran with Gold anytime she beats him at Tic-Tac-Toe. While most players will want to hit it and quit it, players must win 5 games of Tic-Tac-Toe with the Snail in order to get the achievement.
DR. LOVE
Dr. Love requires players to re-unite the mountain with his wife. Players will need to do this by bringing the flower at the bottom of the mountain to his wife who is in the middle of the water.
THE KIND THEIF
The Kind Thief is an achievement that players may that players may get based on what kind of story they want to tell with Fran.
Essentially, after players steal a ticket from the bug in the bar they can return it when they get back into the bar. This step is not absolutely necessary, but it does grant you a juicy achievement.
A TROLL…. RUN!
A troll… RUN! is much like the other mini-games in Fran Bow, though I would say this one is a bit of an easier one for players than some of the other mini games.
Players have to make sure that they do not quit this mini-game as this will not allow them to get the achievement.
CHAPTER FOUR
Chapter Four has 4 achievements that players can unlock and I will say that it can be hard to figure out some of these.
OOPS! YOU CRASHED THE GAME
Oops! You crashed the game related to the minigame that’s in the room where Itward is pedaling. Players may not notice it at first, however, there’s a little console with a video game to the left of the door.
Players must complete three rounds of this video game until they see the Winner Screen, after this players will need to click the Winner screen in order to unlock the Final Boss and acquire the achievement.
CHECK!
When players are in the laboratory they will find a check list at the top left hand side of the table. Players will have to take their crayon and finish marking the check list as “AFM” is not checked at first. Doing so will land you this achievement.
FEEDING THE ROBOT RABBIT
Feeding the robot rabbit requires players to feed the robot rabbit 3 carrots located in the left hand side of the room.
Players will often do this by mistake as it can take a few attempts to read the paper behind the rabbit.
MEMORIAL
Memorial is honestly another achievement I stumbled on simply because it was part of the story that I was trying to tell with Fran.
Essentially when players are taken to the grave of her parents, players will see some candles around the grave. Players will have to use the matches from their inventory in order to light these candles and gain the achievement.
CHAPTER FIVE
Chapter Five only has 3 achievements and again a few of them aren’t going to be the most straight forward, though they can be stumbled upon fairly easily.
THIS IS ELECTROMAN!
I’ll admit, I was very close to getting this achievement on stream, but our community wasn’t having it with me electrocuting the doctor so many times, so I stopped shy of when I would have gotten the reward.
When the Doctor is in the electric chair, players will have to pull the lever to electrocute him 3 times.
THE OLD STORY
The Old Story requires players to close the door of the room where the doctor is in the electric chair.
Players must do this before they use the syringe and will have to click on the black and white photograph that is hidden behind the door.
THE END
In order to obtain The End players will have to finish Fran Bow.
