As many of my regulars on Twitch know, I have always been a massive Kirby fan, being one of the only franchises that I would buy any game of. With the latest hype of Kirby and the Forgotten Dreamland, I was itching to play, even breaking my rule of not playing Demos to whisk through it and lose my mind with how amazing it is.
Kirby and the Forgotten Dreamland is one of the most game changing Kirby games I have ever played, not only adding new abilities that players can try out, but also adding Missions that a player must complete in order to collect extra Waddle Dees, which unlock different shops in the game.
Admittedly, I find that Kirby games are quite straight forward in comparison to other games, being slightly easier than the average Nintendo game to 100%, though this isn’t the most true with Kirby Forgotten Dreamland as players will be met with a variety of quests that are hidden to them upon entering a map.
While many of these Missions will provide players with a single Waddle Dee, there are a number of them that will provide players with a maximum of 4 Waddle Dees.
The following guide will take you through everything you need to know when locating the Waddle Dees in the Downtown Grasslands, which is the first map players can access in Kirby and the Forgotten Land:
CLEAR THE STAGE
In general, players will always receive some Waddle Dees for simply clearing the stage. Luckily for players, they will not need to complete the stage with any prerequisites, meaning that they will not need to complete the stage quickly or with any of the other achievements completed.
While players will want to complete other Missions in order to effectively unlock the different types of structures available to them, players can simply complete each map once in order to get a good portion of the buildings and return to other maps to get the remaining Waddle Dees.
SAVE THE HIDDEN WADDLE DEES
Saving the Waddle Dees requires players to keep their eyes peeled as many of the Waddle Dees require players to look for side glimmers in order to find.
Admittedly, for me, I got all the Waddle Dees in this level in the first run, simply because I am someone who tends to explore every crevice of a map out of curiosity.
While this is the case for me, the same cannot be true for every player, especially for those who have never played a Kirby game before, so this is where all of the Waddle Dees are located.
DOWNTOWN GRASSLANDS WADDLE DEE #1
The first Waddle Dee is completely unavoidable and players will need to defeat the mini-boss (Wild Edge) in order to progress.
Players will have the choice to either use the Bomb or Cutter Ability in order to defeat this mini-boss.
Upon defeating the mini-boss players will receive a single Waddle Dee.
DOWNTOWN GRASSLANDS WADDLE DEE #2
When players have defeated the Wild Edge they will be transported to a new location that some enemies such as a Bull and behind them is a ladder.
Take the ladder until you reach a BBQ and use the Mouthful Mode to suck up the lid. Upon initiating the Mouthful Mode players will have to rotate their control stick quickly to remove it from the BBQ revealing the second Waddle Dee.
DOWNTOWN GRASSLANDS WADDLE DEE #3
To the left of where players have released the second Waddle Dee players will have to climb a ladder to the left and either use the Cutter Ability or the Sword ability to cut the Pylon/Traffic Cone off the vine.
Upon releasing the Traffic Cone/Pylon, players must use Kirby’s Cone Mouth ability to smash the turtle’s concrete platform in order to release the third Waddle Dee.
DOWNTOWN GRASSLANDS WADDLE DEE #4
MAKE 5 TULIPS BLOOM
The 5 Tulips were an element that players were able to locate in the demo version of Kirby and the Forgotten Land, though I have to say that in my first run through of the map I actually struggled to locate one of the Tulips. At this point I can’t remember if it was Tulip 3 or 4, however, the following are all of the locations you can find them in so you don’t also struggle.
TULIP #1
The first Tulip is pretty blatant to see, though if players are not aware that it is a mission to locate Tulips they may miss it simply because they want to go on adventuring. I can’t blame players as it’s terribly exciting to be able to explore a new game.
The first Tulip is located in the first area to the left of the screen sitting in plain sight on a stump.
In order to collect the Tulip players must simply run over it and will get the first step of the mission.
TULIP #2
The second Tulip is located in a hidden area. In order to get this, players must press down the blue button with a star in it to the right side of the first area which will open the gate.
Here players will find some food and a hidden entrance to the left. Take the entrance until you reach the second Tulip.
TULIP #3
After player gain the Cone Mouth Ability, which is done by sucking up a Pylon/Traffic Cone, players can continue travelling until they are met by the charging Bull.
To the left of where the Bull starts players will see the third Tulip hanging out in a barrel.
You can either claim it with the Cone Mouth ability active or without as obtaining the Cone Mouth ability in this section is mostly to collect more coins.
TULIP #4
After players have broken the concrete on the turtle to release the fourth Waddle Dee, players can head to the right of the screen to locate the fourth Tulip hidden behind a tree.
TULIP #5
As players make their way up the concrete building they will locate a Bull. Kill the Bull and behind it will be another Tulip. Make sure that you give this a second as players can easily kill the Bull and not notice the Flower.
Players may also acquire this Tulip by using the Cutter ability on the Bull, also opening up the Tulip.
BREAK THE BUILDING’S SHUTTER
After players become the Vending Machine they can take some time to play around with the mechanic.
As exciting as this Mouthful Mode is, in this particular area, players aren’t going to have much to do with it other than complete the Break the Building’s Shutter Mission.
Fire a number of soda cans at the Garage Shutter and get yourself a juicy achievement.
Players don’t really need to worry about running out of Ammo unless they are extremely wasteful with their Soda Cans as even if the player fires a bunch of Soda Cans a few will drop on the floor allowing players to reload.
RIDE THE SPEWING WATER UP TO THE BALCONY
At this point players are going to need the Cone Mouth Mouthful Mode as players will be able to locate a broken pipe to the far right of the area beyond the two Cannons (shortly after Tulip #3.)
Players will be able to see a bit of water seeping behind a tree if they walk far enough, head here and use the Cone Mouth ability on the pipe to make it burst.
DOWNTOWN GRASSLANDS CAPSULE LOCATIONS
Although not on the Mission List players are going to want to locate as many Capsules as they can in order to avoid having to purchase them elsewhere.
CAPSULE #1
After players complete the Break the Building’s Shutter Mission they will be able to climb up a ladder that will take them to a Capsule.
CAPSULE #2
After players receive the Ride the Spewing Water up to the Balcony mission they will need to continue running down the balcony until they see some boxes they can smash using Kirby’s Cone Mouth ability.
If aimed properly, players will break all these boxes and land themselves the second Capsule.
CAPSULE #3
When players have made it to the top of the Concrete Building they will be met with another snapping turtle. Make your way across safely by using Kirby’s Mouthful Mode Cone Mouth and break the pipe in order to smash the Turtle. Up here is the third Capsule.
