The Boom Barrel Dispenser is a Trap that I admittedly rarely ever use, though I will say that my husband has helped me grow very accustomed to them and I must say that they are more powerful than I initially thought.
While I’m still not the biggest fan of the Boom Barrel Dispenser, they do deal quite a bit off damage and can be extremely useful in certain types of maps, especially if a player is running out of wall space and only has high up places to put Traps on.
The Boom Barrel is extremely efficient when it comes to using multiple types of Traps, and is considered to be a more supporting Trap versus a main damage dealer.
The reality is that the Boom Barrel Dispenser is a bit difficult to explain as there are different forms of damage it deals.
Essentially the Boom Barrel can either fall and roll on the ground a certain distance or can fall and explode. Both will deal the same amount of damage, but which type players utilize will depend on their map placement and which upgrade a player chooses to utilize.
I’m going to be honest, there may be some parts of this guide which may be confusing, due to the nature of the Boom Barrel Dispenser, however, I would appreciate any questions you have in order to clarify any aspects.
This guide will take you through everything you need to know about the Boom Barrel Dispenser and hopefully will cover any questions that you have about it.
HOW TO UNLOCK THE BOOM BARREL DISPENSER
The Boom Barrel Dispenser requires players to unlock it using 8 Skulls.
Quite frankly, this is a Trap that requires players to scarf up more Skulls than a typical Trap so if players are planning on making this purchase they are going to have to think about it.
I strongly suggest coming up with various techniques on how to use the Boom Barrel Dispenser before you begin the purchase for them as a purchase like this can essentially set back newer players, especially if they are uncertain on how they would like to utilize the Trap.
BOOM BARREL DISPENSER STATS
The Boom Barrel Dispenser is quite an expensive Trap to place initially costing players a cool 1,000 Coins in order to place each, though players will be able to reduce this cost.
The Boom Barrel Dispenser is a wall trap that takes up a 2×2 square, or a typical 1×1 square.
The Boom Barrel Dispenser has the ability to drop a Boom Barrel every 16 seconds and can stack up to 3 Barrels at a time.
When Boom Barrels explode they have a radius of 3 squares, dealing damage to all mobs in that area. When they explode they will deal Physical Damage.
The explosion of the Boom Barrel will deal 6.25 damage per second to each enemy effected, meaning that players can deal an unlimited amount of damage to mobs unless they are not shot at mobs that are in clumps.
It is best to practice with these Traps on easier maps so you can figure out how to best deal damage or to practice how to get the explosion to affect more mobs at once.
Without an explosion, the Boom Barrel deals 100 damage to each mob affected.
There are two separate ways that a Boom Barrel Dispenser can work, either by Rolling straight on the ground or by Falling To Explosion.
While both deal the same amount of damage, the way that a players chooses to utilize the Boom Barrel Dispenser will highly depend on the orientation of the map and how a player would like to build combos.
The first way to deal damage is by Rolling the Barrels Straight on the Ground and the second is by allowing the Boom Barrel to fall to explosion.
The following is all the information a player will need to know if they hope to deal damage with a Boom Barrel that rolls straight on the ground:
If players place the Boom Barrel Dispenser 0 squares above the ground, the Boom Barrel has the opportunity to roll 6 squares away.
If players place the Boom Barrel Dispenser 1 squares above the ground, the Boom Barrel has the opportunity to roll 6 squares away.
If players place the Boom Barrel Dispenser 2 squares above the ground, the Boom Barrel has the opportunity to roll 7 squares away.
If players place the Boom Barrel Dispenser 3 squares above the ground, the Boom Barrel has the opportunity to roll 7.5 squares away.
If players place the Boom Barrel Dispenser 4 squares above the ground, the Boom Barrel has the opportunity to roll 7.5 squares away.
The following is all the information a player will need to know if they hope to deal damage with a Boom Barrel that falls to explosion:
If players place the Boom Barrel Dispenser 5 squares above the ground, the Boom Barrel has the opportunity to roll 5 squares away.
If players place the Boom Barrel Dispenser 6 squares above the ground, the Boom Barrel has the opportunity to roll 5 squares away.
If players place the Boom Barrel Dispenser 7 squares above the ground, the Boom Barrel has the opportunity to roll 6 squares away.
If players choose to upgrade the special upgrade that decreases the explosion height they gain access to the following explosion ranges, which will overtake the “rolls straight on the ground” options in many cases.
If players place the Boom Barrel Dispenser 2 squares above the ground, the Boom Barrel has the opportunity to roll 3 squares away.
If players place the Boom Barrel Dispenser 3 squares above the ground, the Boom Barrel has the opportunity to roll 4 squares away.
If players place the Boom Barrel Dispenser 4 squares above the ground, the Boom Barrel has the opportunity to roll 4.5 squares away.
When it comes to placing a Boom Barrel Dispenser in front of a staircase, the Boom Barrel Dispenser will allow the Boom Barrel to roll further down than the distances stated above.
BOOM BARREL DISPENSER UPGRADES
As is with most standard Traps, the Boom Barrel Dispenser has two forms of upgrades, being the Level Upgrades and Unique Upgrades.
Level Upgrades can be used immediately when the Boom Barrel Dispenser is purchased while Unique Upgrades will require players to kill 150 Enemies using the Boom Barrel Dispenser in order to unlock.
The reality is that it can be pretty difficult to get kills using the Boom Barrel Dispenser as it requires some specific timing and placement in order to successfully kill a mob.
I will say that these upgrades will help players utilize Boom Barrel Dispensers much better.
LEVEL UPGRADES
When it comes to Level Upgrades, players will be looking forward to a reduce Cost. To be honest, I wouldn’t start using Boom Barrel Dispensers until you actually fully upgrade these Level Upgrades as this will make the Boom Barrel Dispenser much more accessible for players to place more of them or even place a few on the map due to how expensive the Trap is.
The first upgrade for the Boom Barrel Dispenser costs 5 Skulls and reduces the cost of the Boom Barrel Dispenser from 1,000 Coins to 950 Coins.
The second upgrade for the Boom Barrel Dispenser costs 6 Skulls and reduces the cost of the Boom Barrel Dispenser from 950 Coins to 900 Coins.
The first upgrade for the Boom Barrel Dispenser costs 7 Skulls and reduces the cost of the Boom Barrel Dispenser from 900 Coins to 850 Coins.
UNIQUE UPGRADES
The Unique Upgrades for the Boom Barrel are quite substantial, though players will take some time in order to actually gain access to them as players will have to kill 150 mobs using the Boom Barrel Dispenser.
Players will be able to change the way that the Boom Barrel Dispenser works or will be able to essentially deal more damage using it.
The following are the two Unique Upgrades players can upgrade their Boom Barrel Dispensers to have:
For using 6 Skulls, players will be able to increase the explosion radius of the Boom Barrel, essentially making the Boom Barrel’s explosion 5 squares wide instead of 3. By far, I prefer this upgrade as this will allow players to affect more Mobs with the explosion, though the other upgrade also proves to be effective for players.
For using 6 Skulls players can reduce the height it takes for Boom Barrels to explode, essentially making it so Barrels don’t need to drop 5 squares and instead only need 2 squares before they explode.
Players may want to use this upgrade to ensure that mobs get hit by Boom Barrels faster than if they were to wait for the Boom Barrels to roll then explode.
The second upgrade can be better for players who don’t have enough wall height to place a Boom Barrel Dispenser.
IS THE BOOM BARREL DISPENSER GOOD?
The Boom Barrel Dispenser is a very powerful Trap, but can really use some stuns or slowdowns in order to properly use.
I would strongly recommend pairing this bad boy up with Tar Traps or Confusion Flowers as the reality is that many Mobs leak from the area that the Boom Barrel Dispenser is in before they are actually damaged.
Players will want to makes sure that as many mobs are clumped as possible, though whether or not a Kill Room made with Barricades is needed is debatable. I would strongly recommend focusing on slowing down enemies.
I would strongly recommend using Ceiling Lasers in tandem with Boom Barrels as both can benefit with slowing or stunning Traps.
Would I recommend that everyone have a Boom Barrel Trap? No. I will say that they are extremely helpful in War Scenarios simply due to the amount of enemies that players will have to be up against.
Essentially if players don’t think they are going to be up against a great deal of mobs it’s not going to be worth using a Boom Barrel, especially if players are planning on utilizing the Boom Barrel Dispenser later down the map where mobs have already been culled.
That being said, Boom Barrels should be used somewhere midway, again with a good amount of slowing Traps.
Think of them as a supporting Trap that can help ensure that Mobs are completing destroyed instead of the Trap that deals the most amount of damage.
