As someone who has played numerous video games over his life, I can empathize with individuals who get overwhelmed with the number of acronyms and terms that are thrown in their direction.
Honestly, I struggle to even remember acronyms that are used on Reddit, often having my Twitch Community remind me what TIL means or even pausing to remind myself what WoL means when playing FFXIV.
Luckily, I didn’t feel too overwhelmed when I started Whiteout Survival, since most of the terms used in the game have equivalents in other games; however, there have been a few times when I’ve had to ask in World Chat what players meant as it is vital to understand what is happening in your State.
The following will include the most used terms and acronyms I’ve seen in Whiteout Survival, though I encourage you to let me know if there are any that I have missed.
ALLIANCE TERMS / ACRONYMS
The following are terms and acronyms that are commonly used inside or about an alliance.
NAP
While players who are into media about War or have played other PVP games may know what a NAP is, I was genuinely confused as soon as I started looking for an Alliance.
You see, NAP is an acronym that is used when referring to a Non-Aggression Pact, which essentially means combat is not permitted amongst two parties.
While NAPS can be set up amongst individual alliances, it’s extremely common for States to create a NAP 10, which means the top 10 alliances are to be left untouched; unless there is an event that requires PVP.
Though this may differ from State to State, this doesn’t just mean the top 10 can’t fight each other, this means absolutely no one can fight a top 10 member. While I’ll cover more on why this is typically a rule and why it is important for your State in a future article, just know if you break this rule multiple Alliances may attack and destroy your base.
Always be aware of World Chat as it is the place where updates to State Rules get places and you will know whether a NAP is in place.
AC/ ALLIANCE CHAT
AC refers to Alliance Chat, so you may see other players mention they were speaking in AC or as you to send a reminder in AC.
KILL EVENT / KE
When a NAP is not in place, it is often due to a Kill Event. The most common of these events is called “Brother in Arms” and you may see something like KE rules in World Chat.
BEAR TRAP / BT — HUNTING TRAP / HT
One of the most common events an alliance can participate in is the Hunting Trap, also referred to as the Bear Trap.
This event can take place every other day and will need alliances to schedule the best time for the most players to participate due to the rare rewards.
It will be extremely common to see “What time do you want to do BT/HT?” or “When is the next BT/HT”
POLAR TERROR / PT
As someone who abbreviates Portugal to PT, this was quite confusing to me. PT refers to a Polar Terror, which are some of the harder mobs that rely on Rallies to defeat. Not only do these mobs drop Gems and resources; they come in a variety of difficulties, so you may even see PT 1, PT 2, etc.
FORTRESS / FOR
A Fortress is a large scale battle which Alliances sign up to battle. Though, players receive rewards for taking out the NPC mobs in a Fortress, Alliances will want to defend these for 30-minutes to maintain power. Often, 2 or more Alliances will battle the same Fortress in order to get the higher-tier rewards they provide.
STRONGHOLD / SH
A Stronghold is a large scale battle which Alliances sign up to battle. Though, players receive rewards for taking out the NPC mobs in a Stronghold, Alliances will want to defend these for 30-minutes to maintain power. Often, 2 or more Alliances will battle the same Stronghold in order to get the higher-tier rewards they provide.
EVENT TERMS / ACRONYMS
The following are terms and acronyms that are used in regard to events.
CRAZY JOE / CJ
Quite possibly the most chaotic of all alliance events is Crazy Joe, which is a PVE event that has all basses attacked by hoards of mobs.
Typically, an R4 or R5 will announce when the Crazy Joe event is taking place so players can place their troops in other teammates’ bases to offer protection.
If an alliance is uncoordinated with this event, it will not only end in failure, but can end with many alliance members with destroyed bases that have teleported far away from their Headquarters.
ALLIANCE MOBILIZATION / AM
Though, AM may also refer to the morning, it is also used to reference the Alliance Mobilization Event which requires Alliances to work together to complete missions to rank and get rewards.
You may see this thrown around a lot as it is extremely crucial that Alliances work together to complete tasks or else they demote and get very few (if any) rewards.
ALLIANCE CHAMPIONSHIP / AC
Quite frankly, the Alliance Championship doesn’t get talked about a lot as it is one of those “register and forget it” kind of events. You may see R4s and R5s asking you to sign up, or you may also see them ask you to promote your troops before the event begins.
HALL OF CHIEFS / HOC
The Hall of Chiefs is an event that gives daily tasks for players to upgrade their builds, troops, research, and other vital components to their base. You will not typically see this acronym unless someone is announcing that the HoC Event is running or about to start running.
Rewards for this Event are based on personal contribution.
KING OF ICEFIELD / KOI
The King of Icefield is an event that gives daily tasks for players to upgrade their builds, troops, research, and other vital components to their base. You will not typically see this acronym unless someone is announcing that the KoI Event is running or about to start running.
Rewards for this Event are based on personal and State contribution, so you may see this term thrown around in World Chat while it is running.
STATE VERSUS STATE / SvS
This is a massive event where States must compete with other States in order to compete for rewards. SvS may also refer to smaller events where individual alliances combat other States’ alliances.
GENERAL TERMS / ACRONYMS
The following are miscellaneous terms you may see while playing Whiteout Survival.
F# / FURNACE
Players will often ask each other what Furnace level others are. As players will not want to write out the whole word, players will often say F1, F2, F3, etc. This goes up to Furnace 30 (F30)
FC# / FIRE CYRSTAL FURNACE
Similar to standard Furnace levels, players will abbreviate Fire Crystal Furnace levels to FC1, FC2, etc.
WORLD CHAT / WC
Yet another confusing term for me at first, simply because I use WC to mean washroom. This simply just means World Chat. So someone may ask you to post that message or announcement in WC.
GENERATION / GEN
Generations, also referred to as seasons, are the umbrella terms used to discuss where in the server timeline different Heroes show up. This term is most commonly used when discussing which chests you will need to purchase in order to enhance your Heroes, as these loot crates are bound to the Generation of said Heroes.
DIRECT MESSAGE / DM — PRIVATE MESSAGE / PM
This is a common term used when players are asking to message them privately and not in a public chat. To do this, click on the avatar of the player and select “Private Chat”
DISCORD / DC
Discord is a 3rd party social app that is often used for gamers to speak when not in game. In my experience, there are not many discords used for Whiteout Survival communication as there is the option to communicate in groups in game, however, there tends to be one for the top 10 alliances.
I would strongly advise you to be very careful about providing your Discord username to other players, especially if you do not know them. There are many phishing scams that take place in Whiteout Survival and frequently when you join a server all the alliances “require” you to provide your Discord. Do not fall for this.
RESOURCES / RSS
Resources pertain to anything inside a player’s backpack and is often shortened to RSS in chat. These can Hero Shards, Wood, Meat, Coal, Gear, etc.
AFAIK / AS FAR AS I KNOW
AFAIK is an online acronym that means “As far as I know”
