How to Leave a Free Company FFXIV

Last Updated November 29, 2023 By Johnny Salib / FlamingGaymer Leave a Comment

While FFXIV is meant to be a social game and generally has a pretty great community, it is not immune to bouts of toxicity or players who simply do not gel with one another. Though I’m tremendously grateful I have not experienced any serious toxicity and was lucky enough to be invited to my FC the week I joined the game, there is no doubt that not every player will be as lucky as me and will have to go through the growing pains of finding their own communities.

The decision to leave a Free Company, also known as an FC, can be made for a variety of reasons. Maybe your FC was built on the premise that you would complete certain types of content together and there was simply no follow through or you are no longer interested in it, maybe there was friction in the group that caused you to want to leave or maybe too many players in the FC took a break or quit the game leading you to want to find a more active Free Company.

Whatever the reason is, it’s pretty common for players to have to FC shop and more often than not players will have joined a few Free Companies over their time playing FFXIV.

I have to be honest, it wasn’t until this year that I started getting familiar with all of the settings that were possible with an FC as I previously took a more passive role with mine. I only in FC activities when they asked for more players to complete certain content or would ask in FC chat if anyone wanted to join me while farming side content, but this year when I made my focus FFXIV both on the blog and my Twitch stream I got much more involved with the FC and have been trying to learn the ins and outs of running one.

The reason I mention my lack of knowledge of all things FC is because I didn’t even know that there was a Free Company menu until this year even though I’ve been playing the game actively for about 7 years. I can’t even remember how I stumbled on it, but I remember wanting to figure out who had access to harvesting permissions since I had planted on our plots but wasn’t able to retrieve my crops.

So, here’s when I fill you in on how to leave your FC and promise not to mention to them that you’re planning on leaving ;).

Note: If you have any questions about FFXIV that you want me to cover feel free to leave them in a comment below, you can also ask me while I am streaming on Twitch, YouTube or in our community discord.

HOW TO LEAVE A FREE COMPANY IN FFXIV

First players must locate the Free Company menu in FFXIV. This is in the Social Tab, depicted by two smiles and is generally above your total Gil.

Players who are on a PC can quickly access this menu by pressing the “;” key unless they have changed the default keybind.

Once players have opened their FC menu they must click on the Info tab. Here at the very bottom there will be a button that’s labelled “Leave Company.”

That’s all! You’re done! You’re free!

Now go forth and create or join another Free Company!
